  1. I was less concerned by the caption, more so about what's going on with his shorts!!
  2. A topic that has recently been discussed: Freelander onto 200tdi Disco chassis If you do find any info, please post up any links as I know Mark is looking at this option quite seriously...
  3. Rod, It's still suffering from excess pressure. I've got vapours coming out of both the filler cap and the dipstick tube. A fresh pair of eyes and ideas would be very helpful... I'll drop you a PM.
  4. To be honest, Ralph, I didn't. To be even more honest, I was hoping that all of the stuff I've done would cure it, but hindsight is a wonderful thing!!
  5. Right then.. I still haven't got to the bottom of this annoying little problem. So far I have : Replaced the head gasket - no change and no obvious failure of the gasket. Whilst the head was off I checked that there were no gaps between the top piston rings and the cylinder - there were none. Checked all of the breathers that I can find - none blocked. Drained the oil, replaced the filter and refilled - no change. Checked all of the breathers that I can find - none blocked. Banged my head against the wall cos it's really annoying me now!!! Can anyone shed any more light? I'm starting to think that I'd be better off ringing Turner Engineering and ordering a reconditioned engine, but the wallet can't really take it at the moment.... No rush, , I've got until the 5th July before I'm booked on the J33p Club event in 7 Sisters - good job it's only round the corner...
  6. It does and it carries quite a hefty fine, but as Roguevogue pointed out to me while discussing the same topic at Capel - at least they can't crush your car for it!! It is still the drivers responsibility to ensure the raod worthiness of the vehicle - this includes displaying the correct VED disc. I have managed to tax several vehicles on line and, barring a 3 week wait for the insurance database to be udated, had no issues at all, but the last one I did took 42 days and 3 attempts to reach me, hence why my Discovery has a "duplicate" stamp on it's disc. A good system, but still a few niggles with it...
  7. FireGum is usually used for overlapping joints rather than flanged joints. I don't ever remember seeing or using a gasket on an exhaust anywhere other than the manifold-to-head joint. I suppose it can't hurt to use a gasket, though... with a bit of fireGum for added surety. FWIW, I have had the exhaust apart several times on the 90 and to date haven't used either gum or gasket (other than on the head) and have achieved a complete seal every time. HTH Adrian
  8. Simmonites website says... from your point of view, but still might be ringing to discuss their experience of modifying them to fit.
  9. Doing a completed listings search on the international price-finder (ebay) gives a couple of results coming up between £235 and £255. It will depend on the condition of the winch itself and the wire/rope that's with it. It also depends on where you are geographically. If it's a long way away from the person that wants it, it's worth less unless you are willing to post it... HTH Adrian
  10. There are wider Jate Rings available as a standard Land Rover part. Run a search and the part numbers for both types will come up for you. Not sure on the availability, though. If you have a tow bar fitted, it means that the 4 bolt fixings are available on the rear crossmember - no?? If that is the case, you could fit a ring type affair that is being discussed HERE with the aid of some suitable spreader plates...
  11. I've been all the way from Kent on Insa Special Tracks - twice!! It's not too bad. In the Range Rover I had a loud stereo - this time, I'm relying on the 200TDi to drown out the tyre noise!! All signed and paid up. Just got to get to the bottom of my oil disposal problems!! And waterproof the tent - it is Wales after all!!
  12. As previously mentioned in post #6 above: These seats are the ones I have. The only drawback is that they are quite low at the back. I have a spacerof about 20mm under the back, but it could do with another 20mm. Good seats, though. I can sit comfortably for hours (and I'm not a small chap!!) If I was doing it again, I would probably try to get some leather or PVC ones. Just for the added wipe-clean-ability.
  13. Just found this on the bay: Guardage... Not Mantec and Idon't know how they fit/perform (if perform is the right word)! No connection, blah, blah... HTH Adrian
  14. Definitely Delgragh on the Medway City Estate. Must be some emergency to want to pay their prices rather than wait till Bearmach is open... I'd almost go as far as saying that I'd rather pay main dealer prices!!
  15. You are quite correct. As Mark has said, the seat needs to be removed from the vehicle to get to the battery. If you do go for Cobra seats, Exmoor Trim sell a subframe that enables them to be mounted to the original 4 bolt fixings of the Defender seat box. If you fit the seats with runners, getting the seat out takes appoximately 2 minutes with the aid of a rattle gun. (that's with seats that recline and tilt) My Ripspeed seats came from ebay (complete with the runners and universal sub-frames) in very good condition. They are in fact Cobra seats with different writing. Happily for me this meant that they cost a lot less than the equivalent Cobra embroidered ones The whole set-up cost me less than £120.
  16. 60.5 inches from side to side of the crossmember. That doesn't include the rear wings that hang down past the end... (That's 1537mm in new money...) Any clues why? Are you building a new one or something??
  17. There are several Disco 1's that I know about which are running 2 batteries. It's a lot easier as you just need to mirror the battery install on the other side of the engine bay. I will see if I can get some pictures thrown up... As for the 'control module' - do you mean just a split charge system, or the complete battery monitoring shennanigans? If it's just the split charge stuff, X-Eng sell them. You may even get a forum discount from Simon if you speak to him nicely... Other systems, like THIS ONE from OEC give you displays in the cab, but are much more expensive and the fitting is a lot more involved! HTH Adrian
  18. Cheers chaps. Doesn't appear to be as tricky as I thought it was going to be. Not sure about putting one behind the rear trim. Probably a bit of a b#gger to run cables to.
  19. Morning all! I am quite comfortable with the idea of twin batteries, but I haven't ever seen a set-up on a Disco 2. Has anyone done it? The D1 is relatively straight forward, but there seems to be a whole load more gumph under the bonnet of the TD5... I'm looking to double up to enable me to run a fridge/electric cool box and lights when camping. Any pointers much appreciated. Pics would also be great... TIA Adrian
  20. I know it's a bit old fashioned now, but you could always resort to using the telephone..........
  21. Google is your friend..... First one Second one... HTH Adrian
  22. Bish, something like this FLEXIBLE DRILL ATTACHMENT might be useful with one of the narrow/pointy wire brushes for those points that you can't get the drill at... HTH Adrian
  23. With your budget, I would suggest an EP9 from Mr Bowyer (Goodwinch) and a bumper from ebay. The EP9 will fire up whenever you need it, even after leaving it for a while (as long as it is maintained). The bumper issue could be the stumbling point, but as long as you are happy to wield a wire brush and a paintbrush, you'll find something to suit. Your other option is a bikini mount. I have one and it fits to and over the existing bumper. Not very expensive and can be bought as part of a package from Goodwinch.
  24. May I refer you to my earlier post: I did try to use an X-shaft Mk1, but it proved fruitless. Now you've got this far, it's only another couple of hours to get the other side apart...
  25. It'd be no use on the back!! Better on the front wings on this occasion!! Quality parking! No damage, I assume???
