  3. Hi, Your post is slightly ambiguous the way I read it. So you've got a Salisbury rear axle and you want to fit a Discovery axle and do a cut and shut on the propshaft to make it fit, is that correct? First things first you can't fit a Discovery axle to a 110 as it's not rated high enough. I think you can buy disk conversion kits for salibury axles so that maybe a better route to take and then you wont need to mess about with propshafts. I think a few people on here have completed the conversion. Steve
  4. Yes! You need to remove the top coolant hose and top intake hose linking the top of the radiator/intercooler with the top of the engine, remove the viscous fan and it should slide in. You could also remove the air filter housing to make a little bit more room to thread it in. Steve
  5. Right, being the bank holiday weekend and all that, I decided to do some dash! I removed all the gauges from the TD5 binacle, the warning lights and carfully unclipped the two backlite sections for the heater, gave it a wash and was left with this: I then made some measurements and chopped the top off this one! With the centre dash in place, screwed down using the two inner windscreen demister vents I knew it was in the right place. Then I fitted the trimmed instrument binacle, offered up the extra gauge pod and araldited the two together. I have now carfully removed it all and my next task is to fibreglass the inside of the TD5 binacle and make it look nice! Steve
  6. Hi, I know you say without reducing the departure angle, but as I guess your fuel tank is right behind the rear crossmember like on a TD5, so you could try and do something like I've done here: http://forums.lr4x4.com/index.php?showtopic=76471&page=2 Steve
  7. From the regulations it looks to say no additional speed or distance measuring other that what factory fitted (speedo) and no satellite positioning devices. So we better get the compass out.   8. Hi, This sounds fun and with only a couple of weeks away I think I can get the red one in a suitable state to compete. All I need now is a co driver and to brush up on my map reading skills. Do you know if more of these events are going to be held throughout the year? And just to be clear, there are no provisions to bring spectators. I think I will try and enter this one as although I've been to Milbrook a couple of times now, it'll be great opportunity to go on the off road/military testing area. Steve

  10. Yep, that's what it says on there! The member of staff in the shop was surprised too! But it'll be more than enough for what I want to do. The new pressure switch came last week (I ordered the one mentioned above: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/180687874254) and so this weekend I fitted it. I had to remove the nut off the small copper pipe as the new switch had a different size nut, but the rest of it went straight on and it even had wiring diagrams for wiring it in single phase, but as you all said it's just a switch! It's great for pumping your tyres up, really quick! I'll put a picture up when I've fitted my retractable air hose to the wall and tidied it all up. Steve

  15. Thanks for the replies. I think what I'll do is return the Machine Mart one and purchase the three phase unit and wire that in. That way it'll look neater and cheaper! When I was in Machine Mart and talked about what compressor I had, they were surprised about me having a 150 litre tank with only a 1.5hp motor/compressor on the top! I maybe back for wiring conformation to check I've done it right! Thanks Steve
  16. I did see that, but dismissed it as it was three phase. Is it easy to wire up as single phase? This maybe an option, at least it fits! Steve
  17. Hi, As some of you may know I bought an air compressor of Simon Smith (Thanks Si!) a month or so ago. It switched on fine and to be fair the pressure switch did cut out and kick in at 150psi and 100psi respectively, but after looking at it and on Si recommendation I wanted to replace it. After popping into Machine Mart last week and taking advantage of the no VAT offer I came away with some air tool, an air hose reel and a new pressure switch. Now the compressor is quite old (circa 1981) and the pressure switch did not fit. After measuring the thread the pressure switches machine mart supply have a 3/8 BSP input thread which screws onto the input pipe on the air reservoir. The output pipe on my air reservoir is 1/2 BSP. After searching on ebay and google etc I haven't managed to find an air compressor pressure switch with a 1/2 BSP input thread, some of them do, but there 3 phase. Am I just not finding them and not looking in the right place or are they hard to come by. I could fit a 3/8 BSP male to 1/2 BSP female adapter, but it would be nice to fit one with the right thread. Any help with places to look or recommendations of companies to speak to would be much appreciated as I want to use the shiny new tools I've bought! Thanks Steve
  18. In short....Yes! There's a useful bit of tech in the achive about removing approx 5 bolts and replace with threaded studs so that when you refit it you do not damage the new seal and lines the box up automatically. It's still very awkward and heavy, but it'll help! Quite, right reb, there's no gasket between the two 'boxes but there is a drain hole which (handily!) allows the leaking joint to drain out onto your drive, Land Rover thought of everything! Steve
  19. I bought the small one (10Nm - 60Nm) and I think you get about £10 off. Regarding the quality of it, I use it for work on a regular basis and it's faultless. The calibration of the torque wrench gets checked every 6 months and it hasn't failed in the 4 or so years that I've had it. One thing to watch out on is I think they're only gaurenteed for 1 year and do not have a lifetime warrenty on them so you may want to get some clarification on this if you do choose to buy. Steve

Hi, Well judging by the price of all the new Terrafirma remote reservoir shocks (which seem to be quite a lot) you might as well just buy some Fox's as you wont be saving much and you know you're getting the real deal (with the fox's). As regards to shock absorbers, I have +5 Old Man Emu shocks on my 90 and I'm really pleased with them, just need to do some more off roading! Steve
  21. Today I started modify the dash to fit into the TD5 http://(the red one!). The only part that needs modify is the instrument binacle as the central part will fit straight in as it is an early TD5. The square clock will be removed to make room for more switches! So I started by chopping the top off the pre TD5 instrument binacle. Steve

  23. Having read your build thread, I think I do recognise you as you were talking to Chris on the X-eng stand. I remember Si wanted to talk with someone about his security products and so you all did a shuffle! But, yes, a forum meet does sound good. Whether a stand is possible is another matter. Steve
