  1. You can buy a tube notcher like this I believe Northen Tools had them on offer a while ago - forum members bought a few units. You could do the same, more tediously, in a pillar drill, using a hole saw. Or you could use a small computer program to draw the notch on a piece of paper, which you then wrap around the tube, to use as a grinding guide.
  2. I'm running 255/85R16 MT and often do a couple hundred miles of dual carriageway/motorway. Tyre noise really isn't a problem, you can't hear them over a 200tdi doing 3-3.5k rpm @ 65-70 mph.
  3. It says on the lra post - there's no recall, you need to go and complain of 'a noise underneath' preferably with the witness marks there ready and waiting - If it was me i'd just print off the pdf and take it in with me.
  4. Well at least it makes mine look better.......
  5. q-max punch is the tool for the job. I've done similar with the air hacksaw - that works pretty well, much more labourious though.
  6. I'm a fourth year M.Eng student, we as students have no IPR ourselves - the University has claim to everything we do. it's written in all our 'student charters' and 'departmental guidelines' etc
  7. Along the line of the whole punches thing, I think it would be quite a good idea to have say 100 punches around the site - that way you could keep making visits to 'work your way round' all the punches - not for competition (but they could still be used for that on occasions obviously), but more just somthing to do - just as FF and Will said. A simple map, outlining which punches were where (maybe grouped in tens?) and a check list would make it pretty easy to keep tabs on.
  8. battery saver or load shedder Merlin Equipment do a nice one, but it's a hundred and something quid, their site is down at the mo, at least for me. It wouldn't be that hard to make one.
  9. Having spent a weekend or two at kirton, with lit loo-blocks - not portaloos, and proper kitchens, somewhere dry to sit and eat etc, plenty of room for tents & caravans etc, i can definitely say that it's worth making the trip for a weekend. There's plenty of room to have full workshops - But i'm guessing KORC need some commitment before they go to that level of investment.
  10. See my post above, megajolt is not megasquirt.
  11. 100 quid for edis-8? Think i'll just buy from the states then - $50 delivered (ebay) - or 75% cheaper.... edit - trigger-wheels.com list edis 8, 2x coilpacks and VR sensor for £79.99 Megajolt Lite Jnr (not megasquirt) is £99.99
  12. Definitely an interesting idea - and a first AFAIK. Just to throw another idea in to the pot - what about (say) 10 (weekend?) days for £250, to be used in a set time period?
  13. given that you've got that much compression gas getting into the sump, I'd guess that a ring or two has broken up. Just a guess though, i know nothing specific about these engines, Les's suggestion of a compression test would answer the question for good.
  14. believe you need to sort the holes for the pre td5 wiper motor mount?
  15. It's a good idea indeed - could turn out very well. It'd need 'moderating'/editing to keep it accurate, but yes it's a good way to present a lot of the articles that are in the tech archive.
  16. Mansfield 4x4 - they're my local independant when i'm at 'home' (my parent's),and they'll quite happily post to Sheffield. If i want parts that matter if they're britpart/allmakes/genuine LR/OEM then i go through them.
  17. A standard tdi exhaust will get in the way - but that's not a major problem really. short of a few mounts, i'd think adding a td5 tank and filler should be relatively easy.
  18. Just to echo Ralph's comments, it's possible just removing the instrument binnacle. I find a wire coat hanger very useful for this sort of job, just make sure the end is rounded off smooth.
  19. Have you got 12v on the starter terminal? Have you got 12v on the solenoid terminal when you push the key to 'cranking'? Have you got a good earth? Have you disturbed any wiring recently?
  20. If anyone's interested i've got a DLL and VB code to do video and still capture from a video source - usb webcam or otherwise.
  21. I thought td5 axles were already fitted with push fit connectors?
  22. An air setup doesn't have to be pricey. I love air tools, they're very handy.
