  1. Not a healthy sign for the rekindled LRE forum.
  2. Anyone care to tell us what the format for this is going to be? Is a fun one like the last so my Daughter can bitch or something I need to put my locker back in for? Single trucks, pairs?
  3. Did you try any of the aftermarket (KAM, Great Basin) 4.75 R&Ps though? Reads90, Tonk and several others on here have been running these for a while now with no bother. IIRC shearing the bolts that hold the ring on is the next point of weakness they have found
  4. All just feels very odd. Nothing against Bigfoot but that quote suggest there is still a 'management' group around and the absence of many of the usual suspects is disturbing. And who's Cherry? Just registered and their only post is to congratulate Bigfoot. Hey they must have been pleased to go to the trouble of registering to make that post.
  5. Agreed the lower gearing is great. Changing R&Ps is one route with crawler gears and crawler boxes being others. The R&Ps are still the cheapest option and I could always add a crawler box later
  6. I bought Exides cos I could get them local (Furnaux Riddel?), cheaper than Optimas and bit different. The extra lugs are usefull Also the more I looked into it there where many different models of optima 'yellow' top so it wasn't clear quite what I was going to be getting for my money. Not sure at the end of the day whether there will be much in it. Optimas have been kown to give up. So far mine are fine and I did burn out the isolator at Slindon so they must be delivering the amps Happy with my choice FWIW.
  7. Looks familiar but all the mods are over here?
  8. Nige, sort of simple. That's what I had with my ARB, just put a 4.7 R&P on it with a spacer ring behind the ring and swapping out the pinion. but... the stock R&P didn't even last two punches!! 4.7 seems fine with an open diff, I've been running them with my Simex for over a year no bother, but lockers just let you get more torque to the wheels and stress the components far more. By all means try it but I'm now running that stock diff (thanks) while I save for a set of 4.75 R&Ps
  9. Yeh, this forum's not targeted at nornal people Is it?
  10. Part of the fun of the forum is people sharing their experiences. Manual says its easy so we just need someone to go try it Just post up feedback and pics.
  11. Not done an AWDC event but plenty of Shire ones and a few HBRO ones. SAD are another local club. Anyone here from the Wessex Hillrunners? One of their members, Patrick Miguel?, used to run a good web site which gave a real insight into some of the off road sites in the south. Does all rather depend on what you want to do though.
  12. We are getting more errors and double postings on here? One for Geoff I guess. Don't know the setup or even if we are running shared or dedicated server. If it needs funds to resolve I'm sure a number of us would chip in to fix it.
  13. Welcome Dave, glad you found us. We are more concerned about ensuring old LRE forum members find us and making the venue known to prospective forumeers than raising funds through advertising. Having escaped the shackles of LRE this forum will, like the beer, be fiercly independant while retaining a warm friendly atmosphere Of course if someone wants to advertise with us it is an option I guess but if one of the members has had bad experiences and thinks the product is sh** then they need to be free to say so. Mind I guess is would give any ads on here far more credibility than those in the rags.
  14. Well beafier R&Ps are next step. Had rather hoped it would have lasted for more than a month though.
  15. well, swapped my diff last night for a stock unit (thanks ltwt1981) and it looks like this: oops
  16. You could always put some wheels on with a lot more backspacing and start cutting the outer panels or even go tray back. I'll take your old wheels off you if it helps
  17. Exactly the right approach Nige and I'd be very interrested to see how it goes. 8" raise in the tub boxes is a lot and will take some filling. You're not planning 42" tyres as well are you You say you've flexed the axle sans springs and shocks, did the tyre bind on the inner face of the tub box or spring mount?
  18. Rather like Mornington Crecent. I could offer Malvern after J7 but I'd be guessing Better to just follow another Landy.
  19. JST, yes some pics would be good. I like your idea. I think I was too hung up about keeping the anti burst locks but like you say going to an older style lock is a lot more pragmatic.
  20. Is this by KAM? I see they will do their shafts in higher grade materials but there is a price penalty.
  21. Sounds correct. This connection is made be the selenoids so should be open otherwise. Are you sorted now?
  22. FWIW I'm running the same switch as MogLite from Hyphose but with a toggle (push/pull) rather than lever. Tucked in by the hand brake just reach down and pull to actuate. Nice and simple.
