  1. I had one of those but removed the grill and then machined the opening out as far as it would go. I left the standard grill on underneath. It looked good and worked just as well as having an open grill.
  2. At the moment I really am just looking to confirm if my thoughts are correct with regard to the needles being too lean in wider throttle openings/loads. So I guess just introducing a narrow band lambda will show me it dropping off. I have megasquirt already (on another car) and enough bits to lash something together so was pondering...
  3. I realise this sounds like a bit of an odd question, but I am working on a rather old vehicle and wish to check the carburettors without going to the expense of a rolling road. I've recently rebuilt the engine using my own camshaft profile and the compression has been modified, as has the cylinder head and the inlet/exhaust manifolds. Knowing (very little) about megasquirt I wondered if it were possible to rig up a vacuum line, a TPS and a lambda into the vehicle exhaust and take a log on a long run in order to gauge if the carburation is somewhere near right? Currently I believe it is fine under margainal throttle but not delivering enough at larger throttle openings under high load and consequently running lean.
  4. as long as you have a switched 12v from the relay board via the white and purple you should be OK, regardless of if you piggy back it off the injectors.
  5. Is this even a question?! Surely you've used a workbench before so have an idea of how big you want it?!
  6. I had a 2.8 VNT on my 300, it was good and definitely picked up much better than the standard turbo. The conversion never caused my 300 any problems in 30k miles. I had a complete powerstroke engine at one point, but decided better of it after reading about the problems with gearboxes. In hindsight I wish I had just fitted the whole thing, with a good R380 and driven it with some degree of mechanical sympathy. The VNT gave such smooth pickup and felt like the engine had a wall of torque right through the rev band. If you can afford the full engine, go for it!
  7. I would do a search on Freel2, there's a handy guide on how to fix this problem. It's fairly common, mine has started randomly opening
  8. very good, presumably he had to inform the DVLA of the change in colour?
  9. You might wish to consider cam timing if you wish to make gains in the upper echelon of the rev range. For comparison, my 2ltr will pull from barely rolling 3rd gear happily, that is in a 109 with 7.50 tyres. I can comfortably pull OD top on the motorway but longer hills do force me to change down. Nice bit is that there is no horrid diesel rattle and I can hold a conversation! 28mpg on a steady run as well. I've got a single SU, four branch manifold, rebuilt distributor, high compression pistons and a nice new cam.
  10. nice to hear of someone tuning the 4 banger, there's a lot to be hard from the old school back of the shed tuning tactics. I made my own 4 branch for my 2ltr, a very satisfying job.
  11. Perfect! Sound advice as always sir!
  12. Does it rattle about much? Problem solved though, can't see a neater way. Thanks FF!
  13. Sounds good FF, do you have a pic or a link?
  14. The standard swan neck aims upwards to get the ball in the correct place. I would assume I could do the same with a fabricated part. Type approval could well be a minefield, something I was hoping to negate by having a standard towbar with a modified mounting flange to take the nato jaw.
  15. Has anyone ever found an off the shelf towbar to take a nato hitch for a FL2? I can't seem to find anything so am looking into the possibility of modifying one to take a four bolt flange rather than a two. Ideally I also want to be able to detach the towbar, it will only be towing the sankey once in a blue moon
  16. Cracking event, the usual well organised and freindly atmosphere. I had a good day bitching, happy with our finish considering the hash we made of the morning. Has anyone seen my hair band?!
  17. I would not touch them with a barge pole, total rubbish leaked after a year and they didn't want to know when I got in contact with customer services. Don't waste your money
  18. I don't do mine particularly tight because that way the damper/nut threads don't get the chance to rust and therefore force the use of grinder to remove the shock!
  19. Sounds like something is up with the motor for it to smoke like that
