  1. Hi, I have been looking to download an single OS map. I don't fancy spending hundreds on the whole of the UK, but can't seem to find a way to only do a certain area. Can anyone point me in the right direction ? Whilst on this topic, what is the best mobile app for them - memory map ? Thanks Gordon
  2. From memory we (well whoever is out there to inspect) load test pad eyes to double when they get welded on, But i think that reduces to something like 1.5 once over a certain weight. They'll be MPI'd before and after. G
  3. Aaah... the joys of a straight hole - I've looked up the reason for this before. From memory it was due to the friction experienced throughout the system (sheaves) and the fact that your load cell is on the dead end of the line. This goes away once your hole has some angle - back to the more conventional PU & SO weights due to drag. G
  4. I can't disagree with the above, but for the simplicity of an RV8 efi vs the setting up of carbs etc... As well as the added power gain, that is why i wouldn't contemplate running a carb'd v8. G
  5. My honest answer would be with a load cell, as you use to test cranes etc. However for a home user i think you'll battle to find a cell G
  6. Because GP use them - so they must be good
  7. Carbs are your first issue. Sorry to be blunt. Swap over to an EFi engine (3.9 / 4.2 if you wish) (don't necessarily need megasquirt) and you'll gain a nice chunk of power. I reckon you can find a 3.9 for not a lot more than a new crower (or similar) cam. If you do go down the cam route, remember to change the lifters at the same time. G
  8. "Disposable" welding gas bottles are a perfect size. With regards to using a bigger one on the basis that you get more is a bit difficult. Unless you were to go for something really big, your benefits are really small. I have about a 10l tank, and will run much smaller next time. Mine is charged from an air con pump, but have a t max plumbed in as spare. No complaints about them, have killed one but that was understandable because of how it was treated ! G
  9. Concrete & rsj's ! With an assortment of decent padlocks / bars. G
  10. Got your pm. For the high gear we machined an internal boss to screw onto an off the shelf ram. Can't remember the thread but easy to work out. For the low gear I got one from saley as his winches use the same system. His high gear mechanism will work as well. G
  11. On this topic, what is the best app for an iPhone where you can download all the maps to be used offline (UK isn't an issue really, but when you're always abroad mobile internet is sometimes difficult). G
  12. Woah ! Surely it'd be easier / quicker to take the whole car ? G
  13. Si, have you seen a scangauge ? Basically a device with a small screen that plugs into your obd ii, and then will display 4 readings of your choice (whatever your ecu can output can be selected. They work really well. G
  14. Agree Rob, needs to be used with a level head. I'll be honest it is nice on a motorway when you have 350bhp under your right foot and you're just trundling along at 60 mph G
  15. Robert - we've managed to destroy pretty much everything in the LR axles with 200 hp. I think if you go for more, you won't be able to use it anywhere near its full potential. G
  16. Suppose it'll be good for the axel shaft market ?
  17. Mikalor are beefier than jubilee in my opinion. Depends on application I guess, both are good. G
  18. That's your phone number signed up to all the dodgy porn sites Nige
  19. Our local tip had a smug look on their face when we rocked up in the p38 and just couldn't fit under the barrier. It's amazing how useful the lowest setting is on the air suspension...... Just remember to open a door when you start driving do it doesn't lift back to motorway height. G
  20. In a standard LR jack you can only really go in in the centre of the base from below. Drill and tap a 1/8 and then fittings / gauge to suit. We couldn't find a way to go in the side. Works really well for weighing vehicle corners etc. G
  21. We welded our press together, been fine (6ft tall) One thing I would say is make the top and the bed strong enough. Our entire press is 4" x 2" box section (about 6mm wall). The top has triangulated pieces and thus strong, but we flex the bed with a 25t force. Soon I'll swap to the conventional way of 2 pieces of channel iron for the bed. Maybe 8 or 10" ? G
  22. If you use an enerpac ram you'll find it'll return by itself and most are good for 10,000 Psi. Cheap ones turn up on eBay. They're threaded so easy to mount. You need some arbor press plates now :) http://pages.ebay.com/link/?nav=item.view&alt=web&id=271874668463 G
  23. What's your address ?
