Arjan
Right, question for the UK specialists... This is the info on the DVLA system for this vehicle. Obviously, the Reg. no has been "anonymized", but there is an original V5 / Logbook that matches the vehicle. 1 - Does this mean a friend in the UK can buy this vehicle, SORN it, make it MOT ready, make it pass, Tax & insure it and get it on the road hopefully enjoying the vehicle ? 2 - Does this mean a friend in the UK who buys this vehicle gets hit for it not having MOT & Tax over the last 5 years etc. before he can SORN it, get it MOT ready ? Looking forward t your thoughts Edited August 13, 2017 by Arjan
Retroanaconda
1. Yes 2. No So long as he SORNs it right after buying it he'll be fine. Likewise as long as it's kept off the public highway no MOT will not be a problem either.
Arjan
Thank you for the very quick reply. 3 - What does he need to SORN it ?
miketomcat
You can do it online just a quick Google will find it but if I remember correctly you need the v5. Mike
Arjan
Thanks - but the V5 needs to be in your name by then ?

Arjan
Well..... Somehow this looks almost too easy. Buy the thing, get the logbook in your name & SORN it to prepare it for the MOT... Hmm....
rtbarton
Make sure you get a dated receipt. If the vehicle wasn't taxed or SORN'd before you bought it it's not your problem.
miketomcat
I'm pretty sure you only need the tear off part of the v5 to sorn in the same way you only need that bit to tax it. Mike
AMB
Rather odd. MoT expired April 2007, yet tax was due from May 2012. Valid current insurance and MoT are required in order to tax a vehicle, so how was the vehicle taxed when it apparently hadn’t had an MoT for at least 4 years? geoffbeaumont
Maybe declared SORN in 2007, hasn't been taxed or declared SORN since 2012? Not sure how that would appear, but if the vehicle is SORNed then tax isn't due.

dailysleaze
Didn't you used to have to re-SORN every year?
Peaklander
Yes I did when rebuilding my S3, once I'd stopped the vehicle tax.
MR-HIPPO
Sorn was yearly until Dec 2013 (IIRC) DVLA recently chased me up about a vehicle that I neglected to re-sorn back in May 2013. According to the chap I spoke to on the phone at DVLA they were simply looking for a responce, if I had not contacted them the vehicle would have "fallen off of the system"
dailysleaze
That'll explain being untaxed since 2012, if they'd forgotten to renew it
