Oil and temperature safe hose

Does anyone on here know of a brand/type of hose that would be happy living in the sump of an engine?

I'm looking for a 16mm ID hose that is capable of living in the oil and temperature of an engine's sump. I've been told by the merc lot that the pipe is another pickup tube, but it doesn't make sense as you'll see in the picture below, it's nowhere near the oil level at its end! So it's potentially a suction tube. It's the tube that starts too left and ends by the silver band on the lower tube. So it ends long before the pickup tube drops down to the sump.

Thanks in advance!

Hydraulic hose does adsorb the oil over time and go sort of porous and flaky but if it's not under pressure and you have a filter I'm sure it'd be fine for many years? Our hydraulic machines keep the oil at 50 degrees but I'm not sure what the max rating is without looking it up. If it's suction does the hose need to be rigid to avoid collapse or do you think that wouldn't be a problem? Is there not a Mercedes part that does this? Or could you not weld a bit of "steel" pipe on as won't a rubber hose flop about as your offroading and maybe come out the oil or hit moving parts? Or am I misunderstanding?

Hmm, as you say, it doesn't look like a pick up, either a breather, foam scavenge or pressure relief port maybe? All seem a bit odd, but then I don't know much about OM606s!

I'd try and confirm what it is before deciding what you need to do.... workshop manual show you anything?

Hoses that carry a fluid are almost never happy being submerged in it, same with sealants, ask me how I know!

You're into quite special stuff there, best bet is to get on the blower to a hose manufacturer's technical line to see what they say.

I can only imagine how you found out  Once you look into hose construction and the various layers used then it makes sense.

why do you need it flexible?

Well it was to make life easier putting it together.

What about some flexi steel pipe like an ibaspakker exhaust?

That's a good shout but not managed to find any yet.

I found http://www.hoseworld.com/ very helpful when I wanted some more specialist hose, give them a call.

will give them a call if the current option doesn't work.

I had thought the second tube was bypass i.e. where the oil is dumped from the pressure regulator.

Well that's what I'd have guessed.... it really doesn't make sense for it to be a pickup given its location.

I've ordered some tube that  should be here tomorrow and I've borrowed a bender so I will see what I can come up with for the tube.

If this is the case there's a fair chance you could just cut the pipe wherever is convenient, unless Mercedes have some weird weakness that requires extra oiling of whatever's near the end of that tube.

Can you not find out from the service manual or somewhere what it's actually for?
