1994 200TDI into 1988 D90 19J. Help needed (PAS pipes)

Recommended Posts

As per the title really.

Last week I bought and removed a 200tdi from a 1994 Discovery with only 93k miles. I bought the ehxuast pipe from the chap on ebay for £70 (Cheeper than steve parker) Also fitted a new clutch, Refitted my 19J engines loom and extended the water temp wire. Also plan to do the cambelt. Have followed the ever so famous guide from this forum :)

I removed the 200TDI from the Disco I bought it from (So I knew where everything went) And thought I had everything but was wrong. The seller helped me out by removing the High Pressure PAS pipe from the pump and lost the bolt!!.

So I am left with my Original 19j (2.5td) PAS pipes and a 200TDI PAS pump.

So whats the best cause of action to take regarding the matter?. I am going to take it to a hydraulic engineers tomorrow but doubt that they will be able to help. I am basically trying to connect the Original 2.5td pipes to the 200TDI pump but dont have the connector or bolt from the original 200TDI PAS setup

Also I am going to get the rubber on the said pipe extended by 10 inches. Will this be ok?.

Many thanks in advance.. Matt

I don't see why your hydraulic place shouldn't be able to make you up some new pipes with the right ends on if you take him the bits to copy. He may even do the whole lot in flexi which may make routing them easier.

What i did with my power steering high pressure pipe wa to get someone to weld the 19j end on the end of the 90 degree steel pipe that comes out out the pump. That way if yo ever get a damaged pipe you can just replace it with a standard on instead of haveing to get one made up. Also when i went to the hydraulics place they did not have the fittings that would go in to the pump as they said they were just for automotive. But they should be able to extend the flexible hose for you.

Just got round to getting photos for Western to identify :) ...

ande84, Do you have any photos of your explanation?, Not quite sure on what you mean?.

I also have a Pirtek within 10 miles away so thats an option but I do need the banjo bolt that I am missing before I visit Pirtek dont I?

P.S also added a photo of the 19j pipe which joined the 19j pump

Thanks... Matt

Sorry to hijack this post but --- Hopefully I will be doing this job next month, the 90 I have does not have pas :-( I have a complete Disco as a donor :-)

my question is:- will I be able to bolt the pas box onto the 90 ?

Thanks in advance

John

Yes... PAS box to chassis bolt holes on the side are the same. Drop arm and PAS fluid pipes may need modifying.. (replacing with the correct defender parts)

That just what I wanted to hear :) , as I have the complete Disco hopefully I will be able to swap every thing over.

Can I also use the same steering arms off the disco as theye are HD ones ?

Thanks again

John

Hi Matt,

Have you still got (or can you get hold of..) the high pressure pipe from the donor Discovery ? (pump to box)

When I did the conversion I took the pump-to-box pipe from both the Disco and the 90 to Pirtek.

They cut off that bit of Disco pipe that connects to the Disco pump (all together a few inches)

After that they cut off the banjo bit from the Defender pipe (the bit that used to connect to the old pump)

With a bit of tube (not cheap) and some fixings, the pressed both ends (Disco bit and complete 90-pipe) together and presto !!

So what I've got is the original 90 high pressure pipe, that is connected to the last bit of the Disco pipe.

Worked great for me.

But as said before on this posting, best thing is to take all the bits to a shop like Pirtek and let them have a go !

Edwin.

No I dont have the Discovery pipes at all. So think the best thing I can do is try to get hold of them. But again.. Its going to be a big setback as my local scappies dont have any discoveries and I now dont have the use of a car. (The Defender is/was my daily drive).

Unless anyone here has the hi-pressure discovery pipe and banjo bolt that connects it to the pump

I had the same problem as you why dont use use the td pump or buy the high pressure hose for the disco its only 26 quid

as ^^^ use the TD pump

some hydrualics places dont like making up pipes for road going vehicles when it involves steering, they would do pipes for a cooler though....

Will the pump fit 19j pump directly fit onto the 200tdi engine then?.

And where can you buy the hose from?

thanks.. matt

banjo= RTC5674

sealing washer x 2 = RTC5675

Thanks!!

Any Idea how much the bolt "RTC5674" will be from Land Rover?, I seem to remember where I used to work that we had Microcat that told you the RRP of each part number?

Any idea wheter I can use my original connector on the hose I took a photo of with the bolt "RTC5674" My dad is positive that it will fit????

Many thanks for all your lots time.. Matt

I know its not much use to you as you don't have the Disco high pressure pipe, but for if you do come across one, I used an 8mm compression joint and joined the two pipes together on the n/s chassis rail. Fit and sealed easy with no leaks.

Not sure if Pirtek would, but they could possibly make you up the pump end with a foot or so of flexible hose and some 8mm steel pipe for you to cut to size and fit as I did.

Matt, plenty of disco's being broken for spares on ebay not far from here. Worth an email or phone call?

I think thats going to be the next call of action bicmac. I'll even buy the pump with the pipes If I have to!

Where abouts in Rotherham are you located anyway?

Western..

Can you get me the part number for the whole PAS pipe please?

Would like to see how much Craddocks will charge for it.

Just looked on Ebay and the closest Discoveries for breaking are miles away. Was hoping for some near Doncaster, Nottingham or Sheffield

The RTC5674 turns out not to be a banjo bolt but the banjo connection

itself click here to see it seems the bolt that screws into the rear of the pump isn't available as a seperate part [i tohough it was] hopefully a engineering suplier or hydraulic hose supplier or fuel injection specialist may have a suitable bolt.

if you can find a suitable banjo bolt the pipe with the banjo connection on should fit.
