grumbleweed
Really good event. Some really gutsy moves by some teams!! From a marshalling point of view, the only issue we had was dealing with breakages of kit and vehicles. That mudrun tunnel was superb - great to hear some of the teams really nailing the engines up the hill! Very impressed with the guys in the Purple pig who were the only ones to tackle the reverse winch drop into the 'pit'. Was a bloody cold nights camping - glad we brought the fire with us. I must add at this point that my hangover only finished last night! Superbly organised as usual! Anyway - here's some photos Chris
Orange
Another great event from the Challenger team. Many thanks to all of the organisers and marshalls. After a frustrating morning where we wrecked the ground anchor and suffered with a knackered split-charge relay, the afternoon went much smoother and saw us rattle through twice as many punches as we managed in the morning. Special Stage was excellent... More of those, please!! A very difficult site to master and, I guess, even more difficult to set out to keep all levels of entrants happy, but judging by the smiling faces at the end of the day, the team managed to do that. Good to see some new trucks and faces around and nice to see some old familiars. Looking forward to some more pics and Round 2 up at Coney Green Farm. Cheers Adrian
Grim...
It was an excellent weekend - thanks to the organisers and marshals (and the sponsors, of course ), and the chap who helped the black Tomcat with the punch at the top-right of the site! I only got a couple of photos:
Soliholic
Glad to hear you all enjoyed it, it makes it worthwile! Many thanks to all the marshalls and helpers without whom we would not be able to run this series. The general feedback i received was that it was harder than last time but that was the plan, to "up the ante" just a little and West Harptree is quite a hard site anyway particularly in the wet!!. Mainly because we cant really judge the level of entry until the day and i thought last seasons opener was a bit too tame, so now i have a better idea of this years competitors/vehicles skill then i can adjust the punches to suit for the next round....opinions/suggestions always welcomed! Hopefully Sara will be posting up the final score sheets as soon as she can but she also has a life to get back to on a Monday. I took quite a few pics myself but i dont have a clue how to upload them here so they will soon be on my facebook page & on our website, also Charlie Thorne from LRM took over 200 pics which he is kindly putting on a CD for us and of course look out for the feature in next months LRM. Look forward to seeing you all at Coney Green farm for round 2. Paul
T1G UP
That was tough??? we trial there and i've driven most of those bits. Personally saw a lot of unnessary winching because they had a winch. Maybe if it was timed aswell there would be less yacking and winching and more driving? Lovely day though.

Surely the point of this series is to have fun and learn the ropes. Start timing the stages and you will put off lots of people! And yes - it was tough. Even the experienced teams were breaking a sweat!

Its not just about driving the bits but being able to stop in the right place, punch your card and then get back out the way you went in. Glad you had a good time
Mark
Seriously, if we could drive it, we gave it a damn good go!!! It was very slippery though, and as soon as the top was just a tad polished it became undriveable in places!

Orange
Excellent little write-up Grim. It's nice to see it from the beginners eyes again as we were in pretty much the same boat last year. We turned up with what we thought would be a fairly competitive truck only to find that even with 2 lockers, 2 winches and 35" Simex, we were well out of the points!! All we did was treat it as a steep learning curve and amended/modified the truck to suit and, most importantly, had a bl@@dy good time doing it!! We were still laughing at some of the 'episodes' we had on our way to West Harptree!! Last year's main aim was to get progressively higher points at each round through the year. That happened with the exception of round 4 where we blew a CV and didn't want to risk the spare what with having to drive the truck home again at the end of the day. Our secondary aim was to ensure reliability... We attended all 6 events and only retired early from Round 4, so I think we got there... I'm sure Paul and Lucy will be glad to read your little report and relish in the fact that the series is doing what it was designed to do. I am also fairly sure that the AWDC team would be interested in it for the next edition of the club magazine... See you at round 2........with some bigger tyres........maybe!!! :D:P Adrian Team
steve200TDi
Nice write up too. I'll be entering the second round of the 4x4 Adventure series with Ricip trials! I'll see how I get on! Steve
Grim...
Traction wasn't a problem, they're good tyres in the mud (especially when you consider the price - £80 each!), and (to my knowledge) we didn't have to winch parts that other cars drove with ease. The main problem we found was simply the size - we were catching on rocks due to the lower clearance while other cars were driving straight over. Tom Fall
Hello all! I've lurked a bit whilst looking at what people said, and been looking at other peoples photo's etc. Just wanted to say thank you to everyone for making my first 'real' challenge an enjoyable one, and a MASSIVE thank you to the two teams that helped us out on the day. First team allowed us to use the back of their motor to winch out of a pit, rather than getting the ground anchor out. Second team winched the rock ladder out from our fuel tank... that'll teach me to be mindful of where they are! Overall, I really enjoyed it even if it was a steep learning curve for me. Hopefully the next even will see me and Kev doing even better, as I have a better grasp of snatch blocks, ground anchoring etc now. Once I've got my photos on Flickr, I'll sort a link out. Thanks again, Tom (Co-Driver Team 17 aka The Purple Pig)
