scoaf
Hi everyone. I'm new to this site and am hoping to find it useful. I own a freelander 2 but my real enthusiasm is for the defender range. Consequently I am about to purchase a 1991 ex mod 90. It is in really good condition considering its history but I heard that ex mod are a good choice for a first buy. Any tips on what to do with it regarding improvements etc? Thanks.
ballcock
Hi and welcome to the site. Use the vehicle for a while and then decide which mods will suit what you intend using the vehicle for.
Anderzander
Definitely just enjoy it first and before you focus on mods just work through it to bring it into really good mechanical condition.

FridgeFreezer
Welcome! I'm not sure I'd say ex-MOD are a good buy, they can vary from pristine to "just fell out of an aeroplane".
scoaf
Welcome! I'm not sure I'd say ex-MOD are a good buy, they can vary from pristine to "just fell out of an aeroplane". Oh dear! Well this one is in excellent condition. It has a good chassis, a TDI discovery conversion in 2001, new brake pads and well looked after. I bit of cosmetic rust and bumps but nothing major. Even the heater works! No frills inside obviously but footwell in good order and all upholstery is perfect. Fortunately I live in Suffolk so there are plenty of landies in this part of the world to get a feel of what's good and what isn't!
Bowie69
Welcome As FF says, often they are great mechanically, but can also have spent a lot of their lives being dropped into salty water by a chopper(!) Either way, drive it, enjoy it and get to know it
scoaf
Hahaha! Well hopfully this one had a relatively dry life!

scoaf
Thanks steveb! I will put it through its paces and find any faults. The main reason I have it is to green lane etc but these seem to be in decline. Does anyone know of a site/resource which marks out CLEARLY where they are and if you are legally allowed on them whilst respecting the country code obviously. steve b
The best way is to go to your local council ROW dept and look at the definitive maps - in our case Needham Market or Ipswich for full county records Joining a LandRover club is a good way to find out the true status of 'lanes and/or GLASS cheers Steveb
Bowie69
1:50 OS maps are a good start, look for white roads and picky/red +-+-+-+- markings, to be 100% sure you need to check with the council, on their 'Definitive Map': http://publicrightsofway.onesuffolk.net/the-definitive-map/ Some councils have online versions, seems Suffolk doesn't
scoaf
Great. Thanks for all the advice. First challenge will be to make sure it can handle normal roads!!!
