Imagedude
Where can one purchase the correct tool for removing the spline head bolts that are used on Defender disk brakes? I know you can get by by using a bi-hex socket but I do like to have the correct tools whenever possible. Toodles...
vulcan bomber
a 14mm bihead socket it the correct tool...
squaddiefox
The 14mm Bihex IS the right tool.
landroversforever
The 12point/bihex is the right tool!
JeffR
Machine Mart do a nice socket rail: https://www.machinemart.co.uk/shop/product/details/clarke-pro224-10pc-12-multi-drive-socket-set that does the job rather nicely and cheaply
Phil Hancock
The bolts are Bi Hex heads not spline drive.
pete3000
yup, what they said. 14mm 12 point for the disks and 13mm 12 point for the caliper bolts. The bolts on the end of the axle tube which hold the wheel station/swivel housings are 13mm 12 point but you need a good quality ring spanner or offset ring spanner, not enough room to get a socket handle in. Bowie69
I find they are 14mm bi-hex on the swivels...
landroversforever
They're 14mm on the swivels.... I have a modified spanner especially for them
discomikey
definately 14mm bihexon the swivels. i use one of these bad boys to crack off why the modified spanner? just for the extra length?
landroversforever
Halfords pro 14mm with the open end removed.... It's a nice fit in the disco jack handle then for undoing them.
discomikey
ahh mine are quite lengthy as they are maybe I should have put another standard spanner next to that for scale haha, although if im not at home a standard combination spanner and a few taps with the hyde hammer seem to be the best solution for me
bishbosh
Rather than removing the ends of spanners I used to apply a healthy dose of lump hammer.....
