GBMUD
I would like to say that I am arranging a forum greenlane trip, but with organising comes responsibility and I do not want that! What I have done in past years, is to 'not' organise a trip. I plan a trip for myself and my wife and then let everyone know when, where etc., allowing anyone else wanting to go to book their own trip - by 'concidence'. Sorry for the rather shorter than usual notice this time but I have been between Landrovers so did not want to commit before I found one. My wife and I will be doing a greenlane trip to Devon next month, March 14th/15th. We have booked the Travelodge at Exeter Countess Weir for the nights of Friday the 13th/Saturday 14th March. There is a decent Beefeater next door that does good food and reasonable beer, and there are plenty of green lanes for a weekend away within only a short drive - heading either E or SW. While I am not taking any responsibility or liability for anyone else, I am happy to share details of the lanes I know and the routes that I have driven in the area. I have done a couple of days there, both in Landrover and by quad. I will not be recommending any routes, nursing anyone or arranging groups, but I am happy to give the benefit of what knowledge I have. I understand that, quite by chance , Mo Murphy and V8 Freak are also in the same hotel the same nights... Cheers Chris
V8 Freak
Aye.. The intrepid "older youff" that we are will be there... Looking forward to catchin up with peeps and seeing more of the area.... Neil
Retroanaconda
I'm game I think. Is the restaurant that website refers to as being closed on those dates the on site one or the Beefeater next door? Never been to Devon before

The only county in the UK to have two coastlines and you have never been! Shame on you! The message on the website about the pub being closed for renovations is erroneous. I saw not mention of it when I booked, only afterwards when I checked the page I linked to. I called up ready to give them a real talking to, but the guy I spoke to assured me that the renovations have been postponed until April. Looking forward to seeing you James. Let me know if you need anything relaying down from Sussex. Chris
Ed Poore
Tempting, but will it cost me two tyres again?

Good to hear the restaurant will be open. I will check at work on Monday and all being well book the necessary time off
SPendrey
Oooh, it is tempting to coincidently be there. I grew up in Exmouth, so this'll be a bit like being back at home. Geography note to James though... Wales is west of Bristol and I've seen you there! Devon is South West.

darthdicky
Count me in Chris, I really want to get to know the lanes around here but so far have only done a few on Dartmoor on my own. Was surprised to see some on the way upto Barnstaple in LRO this month as I thought they were all closed - I clearly need someobe with some local knowledge to help me find them! Whoops, you're right enough... come to think of it I actually live West of Bristol if we are speaking longitudinally! South-west was the correct term

GBMUD
Ed, it would be great if you came, and I doubt that you will damage another tyre - there are a lot fewer rocky areas! However, I would be rather concerned that you might loose your wing-mirrors as a lot of the lanes are quite narrow... Chris
Ed Poore
After 27k the tyres are beginning to look a little worn out anyway, the 2.5k zooming up and down Gorge du Verdon (Top Gear episode where Clarkson raced (in an RS4), Leo Holding (climber) up a cliff-face in the south of France) probably didn't help. I think they'll be bigger issues than wing mirrors - once folded they're the same width as the car... If I can get someone to look after the dog that weekend then I'll probably come down. If the lane's too narrow can always leave the vehicle at one end and pick up later. Or perhaps borrow my old 110 back for the weekend - that has some proper tyres on it

SPendrey
I've booked in for those two nights. I would imagine a number of you are passing here (Swindon) on your way down? Perhaps nearer the time we can sync on timings and 'convoy'?

honitonhobbit
I'd love to Old Chap but it's not a weekend I dare ask for a pass as I have a BAMA nav rally later in the month
honitonhobbit
If anyone did want to ask me for advice on what to drive and what not to; or lanes that I would rather you did not drive, I can be reached at Somerset.rep@glass-uk.org Yes I know it says Somerset, but I cover Somerset, East Devon, North Devon and Mid Devon for GLASS
Mo Murphy
Lovvers, you do disappoint. It's been some considerable years since we last laned. Mo
Ed Poore
Unfortunately I will be unable to provide any tyre popping spectacles - a close friend has a birthday party on the Saturday night so I'm not planning on coming down. Although I might be tempted for the Sunday if I feel up to it... Benefit of an L322 is cruising that sort of distance from Surrey is a piece of cake. Good news though - there *might* be some BFG ATs that fit a Range Rover without modifications . Although it does mean going up to 20". Maybe something to consider if I'm off to Morocco at the end of the year.
GBMUD
Sorry to hear we will miss you Ed. Have a nice time anyway. Ref the tyres, I would not choose to go lower profile/larger wheel for somewhere like Morocco. It is more rocks than sand by a long way, and that is not good for low profile tyres. In two trips, the only puncture we had was one very similar to your Lake District puncture on a Disco3 with 19" (I think) rims with MTs.
