rrr47
Picked these up today for 50 pence from a charity shop, chain checks or tighteners. C clamp is worth that on it's own.

need4speed
Nice. Are those brass adjuster nuts?
Maverik
They look like yacht shroud tensioners.
rrr47
Just checked with a file, they are brass. The lady in the shop had no idea what they were and wanted rid of them.
need4speed
What Mav suggested makes sense as the word "rigging" would tie in (if you'll pardon the pun)..Looks to be a quality item
Bowie69
Could be bronze.... http://www.classicmarine.co.uk/boatstore/product.asp?strParents=0&CAT_ID=87&P_ID=
miketomcat
They are rigging or bottle screws the top one is very common on yacht standing rigging (as Mav says shrouds) though they normally have either a left and right hand lock nut at either end or a split pin through the slot into the bolts. The bottom one is more general purpose normally steel but as yours has brass nuts it could well be stainless in which case it's a much older rigging screw use on classic boats. The brass nuts are so they don't fire up probably means it was adjusted often. Mike
ian_s
why can i never find bargains like that? when i needed to replace the one on my little boats fore stay it cost me about £20, and it was smaller than those look
miketomcat
Generally put boat in a sentence and the price doubles the irony is the poor sod doing the fitting isn't generally paid that well given the knowledge base needed.
