simonpelly
Hi Folks, Been looking at a Defender 110 today and noticed some support plates under both of the rear wheel arches - see attached photograph. Can folk tell me whether they are "standard". Must say never noticed them before when looking at other Defenders but cannot claim to be experienced in anyway. Thanks, Simon... western
are the seatbelts brackets or load tie down points in the load bay ? if Yes then those plates are load spreaders to stop the bolts pulling through the alloy panels.
martyn668
I'd say not standard on a Td5 or Puma. I've spent a lot of time examining the tubs on these two as I was fitting Puma seats to a Td5 90 (not a 110, but I suppose the layout would be similar), and these don't look standard to me. ericobrave
Never seen these on a 110 but have only had hardtops never a CSW; don't look regular enough to be originals
Happyoldgit
They look home brew to me, never had them on any of the Defenders of varous flavours I've owned over the years.
reb78
We had them on mine for exactly the reason Ralph suggests - when rear seatbelts were fitted. All removed now though.

oneandtwo
Yes they are standard factory fit on late 300tdi 110CSW onwards they are spreader plates for the tubular internal seatbelt frames. Another place for bimetallic corrosion to set it!
reb78
Were they factory fit Richard? Not on mine Steve. Mum had them added when she owned it as she was carrying a lot of children in the back at the time (20years ago) as a childminder. That was before there was much mention of sideways facing seats and belts in combination being a bad thing, so she thought she was doing the right thing safety wise. As Tristan points out though, they were just another place where there was steel on ali and the associated corrosion!
simonpelly
Hi Folks, Thanks for the commentary. Spreader bars for seat belts makes sense. Had a photo of the rear seat belts too. Do these look consistent with an original factory fit as suggested earlier in the thread? Simon...
western
Yes, it'll be one of these brackets http://lrcat.com/#31/4/53628

Yup, they are same as my 110 station wagon - those shouldered screws are a bugger to source in the correct grade and length.
western
if you mean item 8 in the parts link, these http://www.brit-car.co.uk/product.php/117232/2028/bolt_m10_x_25mm_flanged_head there's no reason why you can't use normal hex head 8.8ht bolts instead,

Funny I don't remember them being like that but I've had a lot of sleeps since I last owned a 300tdi 110CSW ....that's my excuse anyway

Absolutely, some time before the major hoo haaa about sideways facing seats
