landroversforever
Engine crane... I don't have any mates... too busy building benches that can double up as ships anchors... Anything in the roof strong enough for you to winch off?

Maverik
I thus commission and name this bench the"Maga" bench... May she ever hold my vice steady... Main dimension fit fine but had missed the heating pump next to the boiler, so had to cut the single standing leg off the end, still in two minds as to put it back on or just beef up the top spar... Will be using my new oxy acet burner to cut the top down tomorrow... whoop whoop (after a bit o practice mind... )
steve b
It will use a lot of oxygen when cutting so try and set the reg to the min required to cut properly . Nice work Mav you will find it the most useful thing in the workshop when done cheers Steveb

Maverik
5mm box with 4 & 6mm angle... hmmmm heavy duty.... Top is cut and in place Just needs fixing down, cutting the plate was fun with the gas torch! All fixed down to the floor. It's quite simply awesome. I load tested it by jumping up and down on the overhang... didn't budge
cookie64
you can use the oxy/ace set to gently warm the top plate and frame so that youi can get a decent weld between the two just dont know the oxy trigger and cut it haha
Maverik
That's what tonight's plan is to do... you think warming it will help? I was just going to fire up the amps a tad...
cookie64
warming the metal first just means you can penetrate better with a less powerful welding set, I don't know what set you have or what it can handle but I use this technique a fair bit for hobby welding at home of thicker materials
Maverik
Managed to get the whole top done with the plate left over. Ironically I can cut plate straighter and cleaner free hand rather than using a guide! Two of the plates in place two smaller one at the far end to complete. I've got a portamig 215amp lovely machine.

CwazyWabbit
It's a good job you took a picture of it, you'll now be able to remind yourself from time to time what the top of it looks like
landroversforever
It's a good job you took a picture of it, you'll now be able to remind yourself from time to time what the top of it looks like So true took me a good solid couple of hours to dig mine out the other week
Maverik
hmmm, the space is smaller than what I had previously, but I've improved the usable space so hopefully it will work! - failing that I'll be losing some detritus to my alternative storage area... (mates shed...)... Plan for the weekend is to get some shelves put up... should be a bit more straight forward than building the mega bench! zim
Are you going to pain the walls ? Will brighten it up a lot.
Bowie69
Very true, they are sucking up the light at the moment, a bucket of white is cheap...
landroversforever
Paint the walls for sure! It made my unit so much nicer to be in, even before I put up the extra lights. Floor made a difference too (as well as removing the dust), just don't go for a dark colour.
Maverik
oh god, I'm not sure I can face more painting right now...
