Have you looked at the intermediate shaft o ring bodge in the tech archive ? Worth considering before you go for a replacement box.

I fitted braided hoses to my 90 at the same time as doing the discs and one of the front ones has been rubbing on the inside of the tyre and worn through. So I'm sat in a car park waiting for the AA to tow me home. I'll need to replace it, presumably buying a set?, and I can't really have it off the road for too long - so can anyone recommend a brand and a supplier to me please ? The ones I fitted were std. Length Goodrich, which Someone had bought in error.

My experience is that they have to have you accept the offer - so don't. Send them all the examples you can of more expensive comparable models and copies of receipts etc etc The difficulty can be that if you're without a car it feels like they draw it out to pressure you into accepting their offer. It doesn't help that the guide a lot of insurers use for valuation has ridiculously low values for Defenders. Hope it works out for you.

Thread revival here - but does anyone know what the difference is between the guards sold as upto 2002 and those for 2003 onwards ?

Mine did something similar - so I sprayed inside the lock with a silicone spray and it fixed it.

It perhaps also facilitates the sacrificial metal serving the whole hull ? I can't imagine a sacrificial contact in a single location working in the air?

I think it looks tons better with those series wings too. It's a vast improvement. Would it be easier to fit series inner wings than mate the defender ones to them?

£300 is a lot I was thinking it's worth telling them even if it's your mistake: they may have an order for the one you've got and the one you want as a cancelled order. If you hired a van for a day would it cost £300 to drive there and back ? At the othe end of the scale - and excuse my ignorance, if you cut the extra brackets off and painted the areas with a zinc rich paint, would it be a huge compromise and a greater risk in real terms?

I'm exchanging emails with the mill services chap. Very good to talk with. I'm probably in a minority in that I'd like a pair that looked as much like stock sills as possible - so I'm interested in how far out they stick from the bodywork and how they line up against arches etc
