  1. I had similar thoughts with mine. But I just switch to diesel when the temps drop currently. My plan was always two tanks - diesel and veg oil, two electric lift pumps controlled by the same button as used for the Pollack 6 port valve. The veg would then run through a heat exchanger and then the heated filter head. A valve to turn off in the warmer months would probably still be handy as the heat exchanger might have been sufficient to warm the veg oil. Currently though, I just put SVO in the tank between April (ish) and late October (ish) (adapt if the temps are cold) and it works fine with no modifications. I should twin tank it really to allow me to purge the system and use veg oil for more of the year.
  2. This is exactly what I keep thinking. Can get a second hand L322 with the 4.4V8 diesel for under £20k now and one with the 3.6V8 well specced and not astronomical miles (often sub 100k miles) for less than £10k! They will do most things the new defender will do at less cost and probably more refinement? And... for some reason they seem to have fewer problems/better reliability than the same age discoveries and RRS and are easier to work on. I am just waiting for one to come up near me at the right price....
  3. I bought this from V8 Freak, partly for a laugh but also because the pickup type bed will make it a useful vehicle for going out with the chainsaw/fencing/spot spraying for docks etc etc. It will also cope with the steeper portions of our land fairly well considering the roll cage etc. Its on a RRC chassis and bulkhead and I bought a 3.9V8 from Mo to go in it. Bit of fun for not too much money at the end of the day. Just need COVID to be over so Neil can visit again and help me finish the wiring!
  4. Is that a heated fuel filter head you are running? I have one as part of a long planned veg oil but have not fitted it as I wanted to do it as part of a twin tank system. I havent done that yet as my tdi runs fine in the summer on veg without any mods and i didnt want to overheat diesel when i am running on that by having a heated filter head fitted.
  5. 110 for me. Those model land rovers people like @Mo Murphydrive are too small.
  6. Thanks Ralph. I hope thats all it is. The only replacements out there seem to be Britpart and not keen on any of their parts near my braking system! Hopefully its just as you say. I will clean it up at the weekend.
  7. Its a 1989 110. The other night I was out and noticed the faintest glow from the brake warning light. On my 110, this is triggered by the PDWA valve on the bulkhead. The light is very softly glowing all of the time. You wouldnt even see it in the daylight. I am going to clean the connections up but can anyone think of anything else? Do the PDWA valves go faulty? This one is original. Its braking fine etc. With a leak or pressure difference, the light would only come on when using the brake (had this before due to a slight weep from a rear cylinder) but this is faintly glowing all of the time so pretty sure its not a leak or functional problem more electrical/earthing?
  8. Think its this - https://www.aulro.com/afvb/90-110-130-defender-county/188913-defender-300tdi-radiator-tropical-mod.html
  9. So can you fit a 200tdi rad to a 300tdi and achieve that ^^^ I think you would have to adapt the top hose?
  10. Did I imagine it or did someone on here have a tester? was it @oneandtwo??
  11. No nothing. I borrowed it from vulcan bomber here. We fitted it on the drive and just timed it up as normal using the timing pin. I probably did a few thousand (maybe 5000) miles on it but you wouldnt have known the difference when driving.
  12. I run a 200tdi rad with a deeper core. That might be an option? It retains the same fittings etc then. I believe a particular caterpillar core will fit. Did I need it? maybe not... But if the stat works properly it wont overcool and gives me extra capacity if I need it ever. I use a standard size 'high flow' Brunel Intercooler. The FIP is tweaked plus boost etc and when the head came off for a HG change a couple of years ago, all was good internally.
  13. I have run a 300tdi pump on my 200tdi for a fairly long period whilst mine was being reconditioned. It ran the same to me as the driver but I don't know if you would notice any difference if the differences are minor?
  14. Do they correspond with 300tdi ones do you think? As others have said they fit...
  15. I agree with your analysis Phil - there look to be visual differences between them in terms of machining, but I dont know if that makes a functional difference. I dont know how much difference is acceptable in the machining process though? I would have thought they should be identical? What is the additional part that comes with the Eurocarparts nozzle? Do the tips look the same profile close up? Earlier in the thread, the pics RRC200tdi posted showed a very obvious difference at the business end... I cant see that here so they may both be ok??
  16. Hmmm, interesting.... @vulcan bombermight have some things to say given that he machines metal parts for a living (and for fun...)
  17. What will happen if you are going through turbulence?! Got to be safer with a physical switch vs a touchscreen?!
  18. Haha. Some of this did come from Halfords! To be fair I run a lot of SVO in normal times so that may not help?
  19. Weirdly I have found that fuel hose doesnt seem to last as long as it used to. Mine is on diesel as well. The old stuff that I havent needed to replace is generally fine. The newer stuff (bought as fuel hose compatible with diesel) seems to perish within 3-5 years.
  20. Can anyone confirm the current correct part number for front brake pads for a 1989 110 please? (non-vented discs if that makes any difference) RTC3163 is on LRCAT but the numbers this seems to supercede to on the parts sites aren't on there as far as i can see so I want to check I am ordering the right parts! TIA
  21. I was wondering what the MoD had to do with it too!
  22. Its still saying the same things and talking about conversion of the headlamp unit, not replacement with a full LED headlamp. So not an issue if you replace the whole headlamp for one designed for LEDs (and properly E marked etc)
  23. You are right - certain tarmac colours do it too - i.e. the M20 in Kent has a lot of brown coloured tarmac and its much harder on that than when on proper black tarmac! Its a funny one because I really didnt like it initially, but I could see. I think its the fact that in dawn/dusk light, halogens give a comforting yellow hue.. the LEDs dont, but you can still see... I almost had to train my mind that it was ok! On full beam I have two halogen spotlights so I dont have such an issue then but obviously thats off when travelling in heavy traffic.
  24. Yep. 45 degrees from vertical (or horizontal). They say it helps stop airlocks i think.
