  1. Thanks for that Dave, that ties up with my experience so far. Having changed from the 1.2:1 to the 1.4:1 box but the same size tyres i found I was using 15litres less fuel a week for the same amount traveled. Pete.
  2. mine is TDI auto (not V8 box attached to a TDI) and I am running smaller tyres (31x10.5x15 muds) but I get mid 30's MPG on a 1.4:1 t-box (with tweaked pump and boost). I was getting high 20's when I had the 1.2:1 T-box on it. I suspect this is due to the torque converter locking up at around 40 rather than 50 which better suits the roads I normally drive. Although a motorway run (70mph) also seems to return around the mid 30's . This is all in a Discovery by the way. I am about to change the tyres to 33" muds so I will see if there is a big impact on the MPG. Hth Pete.
  3. I do so hope it's still there It's 3 years since I last went in there. Pete.
  4. A look at the X-engineering site would give you the answer. Pete.
  5. Nige, Theres a Brown Brothers in Farnham/Aldershot Brown Brothers Eastern Road, Unit 2a, Aldershot, GU12 4TD Pete.
  6. Keith, Down in the drivers (assuming right hand drive) footwell near the footrest is a multi-connector that on mine became partially disconected causing the heater blower to not work and the illumination around the gearshift and the heater controls to go out. It took me an age to find out what was wrong but was easy to sort. I don't recall the engine check light coming on but it might have done. Hope this helps Pete.
  7. You can do either to raise you gearing. The 1.2:1 Transfer box will raise the gearing by approx 15%. over the 1.4:1 transfer box. Going to a larger tyre say a 255/85/16 would raise the gearing by a smaller amount. However I suspect that 6.5" width rim would be to narrow for a 255 tyre. I think that a 33" diameter tyre is about as big as is sensible on a standard axle before you risk breaking things. Pete.
  8. Although not an import I blanked the EGR at the exhaust manifold on my 1996 EDC Discovery with no problems. I also replaced the top intercooler hose at the same time using a silicon replacement, although you can get a standard non-egr top hose. And when I encountered the starting problems I pulled the EDC off completely and fitted a mechanical pump. No starting problems and cheaper insurance. Pete.
  9. The ones I have are definately a little wider at the bottom than the top as they will fit inside each other. Pete.
  10. It looks even better matched with the other 2 gauges. The other good thing is it only cost £50 because of the exchange rate at the time, so was a fair bit cheaper than a lot of other options. Pete
  11. For replacement engines Turner Engineering are very good. I have bought from them and the service and quality were great. Pete.
  12. I have had a set on my Discovery for more than a year now with no problems apart from the fact that the rod ends supplied were of poor quality and died rather rapidly, since replaced the ends with Lemforder ones and am very happy. Pete.
  13. No problem with supply and I specified degrees C rather than Degrees F which is the standard. Infact had such good service I have since bought two more gauges from them, (oil temp/pressure and volts/water temp.) However I got mine when the exchange rate was more favourable so were a fair bit cheaper than they are now. Pete. edited to add, most light aircraft systems are 24v so I would confirm before purchase that it will work on 12v and you will need the seperate thermocouple as well.
  14. 110 rear springs won't work without a lot of work, as they are a larger diameter than 90/discovery/rangerover rears. From the Tech archive Spring info. Pete. editted to add :- Matt can type faster than me
  15. I have this combined EGT and boost gauge from McNally Electronics in the states in my Discovery. Pete.
  16. 29/30 first go, for me too! Pete.
  17. Although the HD springs are shorter they are stiffer so do not compress as much and therefore give the same ride height as the softer longer standard springs. HTH Pete.
  18. You get what you pay for. VDO gauges are well made and accurate, where as the cheaper ones can be horribly made and highly inaccurate. Pete.
  19. Some bolts have to prevented from vibrating out and for these products such as Loctite 242 are recommended to lock the thread. basically it's glue to stop the bolt undoing. Pete Damn Henson beat me to it.
  20. British Eurosport (Sky 410) are showing it at 6-15pm (15mins) and 10pm (45 mins) every day. The Dakar website has some video also. Clicky. Pete.
  21. IIRC the factory Discovery 300TDi boost is 1.2bar. Mine is running 1.3 with no problems so far . (desperately searches for a bit of wood). Pete.
  22. The shocks won't affect the ride height. It's the springs that set the ride height. You may well need dislocation cones as the axle will be able to drop lower, also you will probably need longer brake lines for the same reason. HTH Pete.
  23. Sounds like the spider unit is playing up have a read of this thread from the tech archive it may help:- Click Here . Pete.
  24. I have seen similar used on AS355 and AS350 helicopters, for connecting the ground power unit. Not that, that is much help as I can't think of a supplier and being a helicopter part it will cost silly money. Pete.
