  1. Our club sec' and another member did it in 2007. Thoroughly enjoyed themselves too and planning to go again this year. I have the article in pdf, one of them wrote for our Club Mag if anyone's interested.
  2. I had oil coming out underneath but it didn't make the action any lighter, unfortunately. Only the replacement s/h one made a difference. With luck yours might be ok.

  4. Going OT for just a second here: In case you aren't aware, there are seasonal TRO's on almost the entire South Cambs network from Haddenham right down through Oakington and Rampton. Probably due to 'laning' similar to that mentioned. There was a bit in a Cambs newspaper recently saying that 'offroaders' had cut gates dowen in order to access the lanes out of season. Please remember that the police now have powers to seize and dispose of vehicles reported on closed greenlanes. Sorry, back to the topic.
  5. Yep I tried filling the bottom of the housing with light oil so the cable entry was always picking it up. Never made any difference at all, unfortunately.
  6. When mine did this it was mud that had got up onside the cable, wearing the inner on the bend. Solved when I changed the box as I used the one from the donor motor which hadn't been offroaded. New cables are a horrendous price I warn you!
  7. Well just for information: My mate has 35" KL71 tyres on his '92 tdi manual and with a 110 transfer box replacing the BW it is back to almost exactly the correct gearing.
  8. Slushboxes use more hp to drive than a manual due to losses through their drivetrain, especially the torque convertor. So it will be difficult to match a stickshift in most conitions.
  9. I tended to stick with 20/50 myself as I found that the lighter stuff can give a flat spot due to the piston lifting a bit too smart-ish. Doesn't tend to get sucked away so easily either.
  10. Apparently it was the fact that the front and rear diffs had different ratios so the VCU was always working. Later models had the ratio changed in the back to put it right.
  11. My personal preference for leads is Bosch, although I believe Magnecor come recommended for LPG installations. PFR6N-11 is the recommended plug for that engine from 99>
  12. Blimey, fancy that! A farmer getting blamed for making a mess of something that 4x4's did. Now that's a turn around.
  13. Hello and Welcome Frida. Nice to see you on here.
  14. It could be but I'd put my money on one of two things both possibly related. The fuel stop solenoid on the back of the injection pump has probably failed. It could just have died on it's own or it could be full of metal slivers from the cam and rollers in the pump breaking up. Take out the solenoid and ta ke a peep at it, I suspect you will find filings stuck under the seat. Low sulphur diesel doesn't help lube these pumps and this is the result I believe. It's not rare for this to happen unfortunately. Expect back door rebuild from a specialist to cost around £100 or £400+ if you go up to the counter! How do I know this? It's why my Discovery is called 'Christine'.
  15. Just checked on Autodata and it states half an hour for a pump change, so FF gets the coconut again.
  16. What a beautiful example of Roman engineering. Let's hope it lasts another 1500 years. Although to be pedantic, you went laning not offroading.
  17. My brother in law passed a kidney stone once, and he said that was painful enough!
  18. Hello P-B nice to see you still ariound. Compliments of the season mate.
  19. Blimey, you'll want us all round there next to take it out for you
  20. I would like to say what a responsible attitude pux shows. If only the people causing the mess had showed just a smidgen of the same, eh? We have the same problem on Hereward Way: there's a big mudhole halfway along that is actually on the route of the lane. Trouble is that in the last couple of years there is now around three ways in to this hole and people keep chewing up the surrounding area as they turn. What made it worse is that a certain club decided to show on a public forum (very wise!) pics of them doing it!!! Can't figure some people: If you want to play in mud with tractor tyres go pay and play for pity sake. Some of us want to keep the lanes open and in good nick for everyone to use.
  21. Four of us mates from SLROC and GLASS did a circuit from Thetford, out to Hockwold and then back around Kings Forest. Started at 10-30 and finished at West Stow Country Park. An excellent day out! I was very surprised at how good the lanes were considering it rained all Xmas day: They were in very good condition except for a couple of fairly rutted bits which are always the same.
  22. Either a screw jack and timber between the rails and/or a big hammer!
  23. Yes indeed good point. G90 appear to be N rating which is 87 mph so too slow for a Discovery/RR. THink you'd need minimum of Q rating.
  24. Hi Mark, how's it going? How right you are, I missed that snippet. 4 spd props are different to 5 spd, not least in the size of the uj's journals
  25. Welcome too, Jesper. The props are the same. The difference came with the BW transfer box which has a longer front one.
