My understanding is the thermostat opening temp is the minimum temp the engine should run at therefore if you put a low thermostat in you will run cooler only in cold weather. This as far as I know will cause increased engine wear. Your problem is firmly in getting rid of heat as I said in your other post my tomcat had to much cooling thus my thermostat would close at 70mph on a cold day!

I bought 5ltr of two pack when I sprayed 45 used about half of it. Plus about the same in primer. That was 1 dust coat and 3 proper coats. I took most the trim off opened all the doors and masked across the shuts I also took the spats and bonnet off. The roof was done stood through the sunroof then finish round the outside. You need to build a good poly tent please use extraction and you will need an air fed hood two pack very bad for you as are all paints. Metallic two pack gives a good finish and doesn't need lacquer.

Put the rad in the back job done you gain about 4 litres of water in the system plus using stainless pipe work is additional cooling and finally it never gets clogged. If anything I had trouble with over cooling with a standard rad on the tomcat
Mike
Yeah it was tight for space but plan well and anything can be achieved and yes we do camp only used hotels when it dropped below -15. Oh and yeah we are mad but we like it [:-)]
Mike
If it helps I've used my tomcat for overlanding for 6 years including Norway and Bulgaria both trips 4000 miles in sub zero temperatures only reason I've sold it two recently became three. So a 90 is no problem get out there and use it you'll love it :-)
Mike
What dd said with 200tdi as well my rad is high (tomcat) disco expansion bottle mounted slightly higher both pipes run along side gear box and a bleed screw taped into thermostat housing job done.
Mike
i don't think you need the spacer unless your running over a two inch lift. yes you can rebuild them with greasable UJ's it's very fiddley though i had to cut the old one out and you can't change the large flange as it all part of the double carden.

i beleive it is a 60% front 40% back spilt. As fridge says the front pulls the back along because the rear prop is geared down via the IRD thus the viscous allows the rear wheels to travel faster than the prop powering them. So if you lift a rear wheel it becomes a 50/50 split although the rear turn slower than the front but you have no traction because you can't lock the rear diff which is where the traction control comes in. On the other hand if you lift a front wheel the viscous locks up giving you a 50/50 split but the rear wheels will be turning slower than the front.
well thats how i read it
mike
interestingly if you apply the hand brake on tdv8 Range rover or the sport at 70mph you stop as quickly as you do if you stamp on the brakes and yes i have tried it mind i didn't try it with my foot still on the trottle my brain wouldn't allow that.
mike
yeah no problem as long as you use the right blade. a trick i learned is mark out your cut line then put a line of grease along the reverse side of your cut line when the jigsaw cuts it does so on the upwards stroke thus pulling the grease through lubricating the cut and stopping clogging of the blade

either 4th/5th or 11th/12th april weekends i will be traveling to rugby and back to southampton planning to do it in one day just not sure which one yet so if anyone wants something moved along the route let me know will be taking 45 (lr90) for size ref

any mods are not a major problem was liking the idea of more fuel as 45l is never enough for long trips the vehical is going to russia to do tourist at ladoga 09 but was thinking with a tank guard (which i'll need on the current set up) it's well protected and a tow bar set up can be incorperated. dave any chance of some pics of your rear cross member and is that the only difference
mike
why would you fit the tank under the passenger seat like the standard tank its very vunerable and if you've owned both are they different capacitys and if so whats the td5 one hold
mike
just discovered the fuel tank on the 90 is leaking it would apear to be under the double skin on the bottom so will need replacing my though is how about a TD5 tank as they are plastic (no rot) and less vunerable. the question is are they a bigger capacity this would be useful, can they be fitted to a 1990 90CSW or is the chassis different i like a challange
mike
i didn't go through the ford that night (no snorkel yet) but did have a play in the puddles noticed i'd cracked a headlight lens the next morning i'm guessing hot headlight + cold water = cracked lens bugger
