  15. The last of the IL6 Patrols with the 4.2 in Barge sized LWB are silly money cheap and will see 500k miles with ease whilst towing the queen mary every day. They have more space in the back than the Tardis. That Dave Symonds bloke wrote a series of articles on SH vehicles and his Patrol article makes very good reading... IIRC the patrol/landcruser option towing a def is very close/over 7.5 ton so i think you need a taco but i might be wrong mike
  16. can't seem to get it to work but then i'm probably doing somethig wrong mike
  17. i'm happy with that just let me know how much were and when cheers mike
  18. just to add my five eggs when i built my tomcat i wanted a road legal every day truck that i could compete in if i wish. so reading through all the dvla paperwork i sumised that if i put my truck through a VIC if it passed (which it did) i have a road legal still registered on original plates truck if it failed the VIC it would need an SVA therefore passing that would give me what i wanted. in this case the decision as to legal or not is made by a man working for the government diretly as another point even the current 2007 defender would probably struggle to pass the car SVA so the only real option for an offroader is a commercial SVA if i was to build another truck i would build it with an SVA manual to hand at least you have something to work to then mike
  19. i have used a snakemaster on a race car trailer (total weight 1500kg) behind my tomcat would tow upto 80 no probs not that i would know that of coarse i don't know if they are rated for trailer weight but i do know they are ajustable for stiffness mike
  20. i have to say theres a lot of people moaning about the show but i think your missing the point. i was there from thursday to sunday had a fantastic time only saw half the show but that was mainly due to a broken ankle in plaster so i spent nearly all weekend sat in the shire shed but then i did go for the social side any way. many thanks to all those that helped me out trust me crutches and wheel chairs are interesting in that much mud but i don't care i loved it. a special thanks to top secert dave for giving me a lift and towing the club trailer. see you all next year (two working legs with a bit of luck) mike
  21. this isn't going to help much but i had a cam belt snap no my disco engine (it was 10,000 miles short of change time) so replaced this. 6 months later (under 10k) got a serious rattle traced to timing cover so stripped it all down to descover the engine front cover (alloy bit the belt runs inside) had failed where the idler bearing bolts on the alloy casting had cracked this alowed the idler to flex thus nearly wipeing out another belt. replaced all this new casing, belt and bearings 6 months later (less than 10k again) the belt snapped again to this day i still don't know what caused the third failuer it's still going fine now (done about 15k so far) but still nervous all the belts were dayco belts if it ever goes again i'll be using gen landrover mike
  22. put me down for 100ft let me know re payment etc thanks mike
  23. all the best and don't break the bonnet!!! i can't nick any carbon from where i'm working at the mo but will have a go when i return to my normal place of work mike
  24. hi we are now back in the UK after a fantastic two week holiday in your lovely country i got a message from fridge on thurs but by then we were on our way home. our trip was from bergen up to tromso but due to bad weather we turned back before we made it to the ferry crossing before narvik then got stuck on the way back down waiting for the E6 (polar crossing) to reopen it was shut for two days the longest for a long long time so we were told by locals the weather was bad enough to make norwegian national news mike
