  1. Absolutely - but I don't understand this on Simon's website Additionally, when the winch is running and the alternator is charging, power will be drawn from both batteries (through the split charge). This current could be as high as 200A which is even more likely to toast your split charge! Is this really true ? Whats the point of having a split charge if the power is being drawn through both batteries. Also where does 200A come from, some winches are pulling more like double that now-a-days.
  2. "Land Rover every four weeks" Are you serious - thats the lamest title I've ever heard. Why not go for broke and call it Land Rovers on the blob !! I doubt there is space for another Land Rover mag. Something like UK off-road or Practical 4x4 may go down better. Would I subscribe ? Well after getting bitten by a US mag that appeared to go down the pan after 2 issues Probably not. Unless the subscription offers made it hard to turn down - but that smacks of LRE PS I think your approach is sneaky
  3. Making things such as rocksliders for example Rather than just taking freebies from their advertisers. Competition coverage Competition preparation Stuff from around the world other than trip reports would be good.
  4. Again spotted at the Dorset steam fair, looks a beast. Anyone seen one before ? I bet the 6x6 is fun around the roads of Corfe Castle !!
  5. Anyone seen one of these before, or know more about it ? Seems like a handy thing to have around. More manageable than a Transit County 4x4 thing Is that a Series axle up front ?
  6. Why use chequer plate ? It will only grab/abrade trees. Use some smooth ali, paint it, and it will look factory.
  7. Price and piccies for the devon ones anybody ? I need one for MogLite's rear H***y !!
  8. My missus saw her Rangie on the back of my truck, when I bought it home. When she realised her car wasn't broken, she was relieved..... But I'd been to collect it with my mate who has dogs, when she realised I didn't bring home a puppy, she just didn't care about the truck at all - I could have introduced my girlfriend, and she wouldn't have batted an eyelid !! For the record 7.5 tonners are a great concept, but the insurance is high - I pay about £650 as I have no commercial NCB. Most recovery trucks are worked within an inch of their lives, and have never been MOTd Most recovery trucks are either 30' long cargos beaten to death by the AA and the like on motorway work, or little 3.5tonners used for in town stuff. Small'ish 7.5 tonners like mine are rare IMHO. I would have liked a doublecab, but they were all knackered and had 20'+ beds making them too difficult to move in my yard. Nige - my truck has to earn its keep, and as MogLite won't be doing any comps for about the next 6 months, we may be able to come to a temporary arrangement Give me a call.
  9. They are £147 + VAT according to their Website
  10. This place has a really good feel to it. The LRE place feels strange, and a bit bitter. I'll stay here providing I'm not left all alone, if I can nip over to LRE for the archives - then thats the best of both worlds. Andy
  11. The Optima yellow top I had for MogLite is dead, has been on charge with Fridge's Optimate charger for over a week, and it won't go over 10.9Volts So it looks like I've got to get a new battery. If I'm going to do it, I'm going to fit twin batteries, one for the rear winch and other accessories, and the other for starting. I'm going to run some kind of split charge, as covered in other threads as MogLite will be a V8 - it will need lots of starting if it gets wet. A red/yellow Optima combination is tried and trusted. But ISTR Exide Maxima DC900's out perform them, and are a bit cheaper, and have three connections per battery, which will be handy. LR90 - I know you run Exide's - anyone else ? Trev why did you go for Exides ?
  12. Well we didn't use the 38a for about 4 days, it was parked a little bit further away from my wireless router, and all is fine. Would you credit it
  13. Seems you can still get throught to the old LRE forum if you use google !! eg Piggy's new winch I was Googling the weight of a H14 winch and stumbled across it. But I couldn't get to the cat waxoiling thread
  14. That photo made it to the front page of the Metro newspaper too.
  15. I've got /exactly/ the same bin But mine has empty Stella bottles in it !! I win Top Trumps Bins
  16. What a great thread B) Loads of cool ideas. If I can plan my wiring loom to fit the Grey VWP modular system, we might have a winner, shame its not in my 2004 catalogue.
  17. I've got a 4 bolt Disco box you can borrow, think I've got a 4 bolt Rangie one if there is any difference. I'm in Winchester
  18. Oh Shucks Just compressed air I think I'll run a similar system on Moglite, using little air rams to move the manual lockers. Easier than big cables.
  19. There have been some fine suggestions, but nothing like what I was after. Is there any reason why, I can't use a "Bus Bar" like this and run it into a conventional 10 way fuse box ? It looks bootie, but I can't see why it wont work. Obviously insulation would need to be more than a wrap of insulation tape, but that isn't difficult.
  20. This system has been in for a few years and is really sweet The Red Ibex way A second switch for the front locker is now mounted lower and therefore a bit harder to get at. They do vent to air, and came from Hypose.
  21. Modern vehicles use loads of relays. I understand this is because all their fancy small dashboard switches can't handle the current. Is there any other reason why I can't just use a 30A switch on a 30A circuit without a relay, as I was planning to use toggles I've got the option of man-sized switches, and I'd rather keep the wiring as simple as possible, and therefore the number of relays to a minimum.
  22. There are about 20 fuses in the Rangie one, and each has a separate feed
  23. I've been a Vehicle Wiring Products user for years, alas they don't have a neat solution
