  1. Teslo, Looking good, you have not got long to get that cage on. Our team is almost ready. left to do is... attach last bits of kit to the trucks (coolbox toolbox, waffles etc..) pack and load spares on to support machines, and travel the three days to the start line Got out and did some testing in my truck last weekend it mostly worked weather looks set to give us a repeat of last year..... See you in Deva
  2. Not that iam an expert by any stretch but CDS and clubman 500 are different materials, weight wise between these two there will not be much difference, but clubman 500 has the higher strength. hope this helps...
  3. On my comp truck i have two tanks a standard 90 main one and reserve to extend the range with out having to carry jerry cans etc.. i just xfer the diesel across to the main tank using an old SU pump (like you would find on a rangy) works fine. but if you only have the one tank surely the lift pump on the engine will do the job?
  4. thanks muchly I know this sounds lame bit it was my helper that didn't make a note.. Of course i would have done
  5. Hi guys, Quick question if you know the answer to this. a defender with a N/A diesel wireing loom... So which color wire goes on which spade on the top of the tank tank? I know ones earth, ones the light and the other is the dial. thanks for any input Paul
  6. well as its a Friday I will post this... cos you prob will not get any work done after looking at this this link:... Xtreme 4x4 think American HotRod but with 4x4's ... enjoy Paul
  7. nope cos they look like remote res shocks some thing like this... and they need to mount the other way round to the normal shocks
  8. teslo, I allways nice to hear that another team is doing as well as we are with prep I fact the only body panel thats on my car at the moment is the bulkhead hopefully this will change soon. We will also be taking the event very seriously, well for the first five minutes after which we will get lost, charge about the Romanian woods until stupid o'clock in the morning, then break some thing, hit a tree, roll etc and then repeat this process for the next five days... so looking forward to it
  9. If you have got twin front brake lines on the front. then you should have 3 bleed nipples per front caliper bleed all three at the same time. I had the problem you describe on an old RR, this sorted it as there was still some air in the system. hope this helps Paul
  10. thanks for the complement PB I built my truck using a 90 chassis left every thing where is was apart from changing the rear X-member and moving the spring mounts further back. The chassis and body is still exactly the same length as an org 90. I made my own longer trailing arms and A frame:- And i am just in the middle of changing trailing arms to "johny jointed" ones as i found the org landrover bush mounts caught the rocks, trees, etc because of the longer wheel base. all of the parts you could buy off the shelf, and if you wanted to pay for the devon parts all you would need to do its find out how much longer these parts are over originals and this is how much rear wards you would need to move your mounts, but you them might require a custom rear prop shaft... But I not saying that what i have done makes it in any way OK with regards to the DVLA, SVA etc... but i do very few if any road miles (well in this country ) paul
  11. Tony thanks for the reply. I had a tank from a 200tdi kicking around the shed, they seem to be exactly the same and its now running in the disco..
  12. Quick question, are the header tank the same for the 200 tdi and 300 tdi? they look the same have the same number of inputs etc... thanks Paul
  13. I have been kind of looking into this I am probably wrong but here's what i have under stood from a bit of reading (mainly pirate4x4 ) air bumps can be a good thing as they progressively damp and defect the axle but they only work on the last 20% of travel. You also cant really tune them like a say a bypass shock.. now if I had the money my ideal set up would be 2.0 coil-overs (with a two stage spring) and 2.5 bypass shocks. bypassed shocks are great as the bypass bits allow shocks to be position-sensitive. So shock can be soft and compliant during initial travel, yet resistant to harsh bottoming during the last few inches ? Now you can get internal bypass coil-overs but the down side is no external damping adjustment so that why you would use both shocks and coil-overs to get the ultimate setup, but at a cost But as Simon points out if you are bottoming out with your current setup then your springs and shocks are too weak, your shocks should be able to stop the spring bottoming if stiff enough in compression, Which is why I am trying adjustable shocks (the same as you nige) its never going to be as good as the above setup but more with in my very limited budget Paul
  14. smokinv8 if your interested i have just another email through which reads I guess other people thought it odd to try and move it to the monday as well
  15. Yep seems a bit stupid to move it to the monday at such late notice but i got this from the emailing list this morning
  16. Just a heads up I have no idea why but they have decided to move the playday from sunday to the bank holiday monday (the 5th)
  17. Both really.. whats the truck your running? we will be easy to spot as the disorganized tourists still working on our trucks on the start line, who will then get lost 500 meters into the first stage.......
  18. With the 200's the manifold is different, thats why you have to make a custom (or buy a after-market one) down pipe when sticking a disco 200tdi engine in a defender.. SO you can fit it but you will need to rearrange quite a bit in the engine bay, its not a like for like swap. paul
  19. prob for another thread but do post up some images of the end result as thinking about doing the same.
  20. As some ones reported that it affects the cruise, it makes me think even more its got to be the sender.... I will look over my misc of tranfer boxes to see if i have another one, if not i will get have to get one. I will report back but as its not a show stopper its not going to be a priority job
  21. Not being silly but is the rope on the drum the correct way round?
  22. George1 thanks i will have a look at the fuse... I think its most likely to be the sender on the gearbox, I will try replacing it and post back what happens. It looks like my disco spent a lot of its pass life towing a caravan at 50-60 so where its been sat at on the motorway at constant speed for a few hours at time. Now its towing something a bit more fun tho
  23. hi all, On my 300tdi (1996 so its electrical) the speedo seems to only play up on longer journeys and will just stop working. It only happens when between 50-60 mph (which is a PITA when towing) but after a few mins at 70 plus it jump back up and start working again. If i stay below 70 it wont start up again until the trucks been stood for a bit. I re-did the clutch a few months back so i know the x-fer box end is properly connected and clean. So any one come across this type of thing, or any with ideas on what need replacing/testing etc... thanks
  24. Well, entries to this this years event have closed clicky I can see one other uk team i recognize, any one else on here going? Big effort to try and get the truck ready sooner this year so that i am not still working on it the night before the ferry again probably wont happen tho....
