    I think you need to work through your list ! All are feasible but I think gearbox oil leaks should be fixed, sounds like yours is leaking from between the gearbox and the extension case. Low and/or poor quality oil can cause notchy gearchanges. Check your Ujs, are you getting any vibration with the noise ? Good luck with the weather forecast ! Mo

    How about checking their tightness regularly ? If these bolts are overtightened they stretch and then don't stay tight for very long, once loose the lash from the rotating drive flange can shear them. Use locktited bolts and torque to the correct setting. HTH Mo

    Mine are oily too. The Tdi rocker breather feeds back into the air intake, if it's the same on the 5 then some oil can come from there despite the separator. Mo
