  1. As described in the workshop manual, fix half shaft in a vice with suitable protection from damage, then get a large mallet, lead or copper and lamp the back of the CV joint. The half shaft stays located by use of a circular type split ring. So its kind of a push/pull fit - you can see it on the end of the shaft below. Mav
  2. Hello all, Can anyone give me info on what thread/fitting type the high pressure side of the pump is? Thanks Mav
  3. Hey Mo, yeah i was just looking in the archive and there's a chap that has re-built one, he replaced the o ring using a spliced Nitrile O ring kit. As its still under the 12 month warranty I'll speak to LRSeries see what they say, if its coming off for repair I might as well send it back for a replacement if they'll take it.
  4. Very few cheap alternatives for this fix I'm afraid, i looked into it when mine went, ended up buying a OEM replacement, which I might add came in a Britpart box I question LRseries about it any they told me it was OEM, its been installed 10 months and it appears to be leeking around the black houseing body... not had a chance to take a better look at it just now. Mav
  5. Ali PAS resovoir with screw in filter, very fancy My link (at bottom of page) I think its the way forward but too pricey for me just now so i fitted an old resovir from a RRC, still steel but comes with its own internal filter. The air box, i'd just get a wire brush onto it (attached to a grinder) clean it up then give it a lick of paint.
  6. Any perticular reason why you want to keep the truck? Sounds like a lot of effort, Disco's seem pretty cheap just now, I just missed an 1997 with just over 100k on the clock for 1600 squid it was immaculate with a full service history... just putting it out there.
  7. From experience with things like seals, you buy cheap and 1)they will be a bitch to fit one way or another 2) they wont seal properly 3) they don't last very long. I've got some britpart door seals on just now and they are better than nothing but still rubbish, they will be removed and replaced with genuine when I get a new passanger side door and finish off the painting. Of course it depends on the application of your truck, if its used for trialing/mudplugging then cheap is fine.
  8. I replaced my speedo cable last weekend, took a few hours. I manged to use a large flat blade screw driver to leaver the back of the cable socket off the back of the speedo head...
  9. I found a "2nd hand" camel replica from the same seller, a poor chap had bought it and then within 100 miles of driving it, it had blown up and he had found all sorts of problems, and the seller pretty much didn't help him at all.
  10. Yup, a full tube/bag in each. I've used Britpart and Bearmach greese and they come in pre measured "saches". I think i found the Britpart one's the easiest as they come with a wee filler tube...
  11. Hmm true, a camel is just a standard ish defender painted yellow. But the point I think I was making was that how much of what "we" do now was down to high profile events like the Camel Trophy. Land rovers where happily established before the camel Trophy existed true!, but I'd like to speculate that it was down to the camel trophy (not just) that expanded the horizon of what Land rovers can do...? - which goes back to the iconic states rant... I don't perticulalry want an icon, i've got that by just owning a land rover in the first place but I guess when I think Land rover, the image i hold is of a Camel. very powerful marketing. I presume I see them to be more capable (quite irrationally now I come to think about it) is that these vehicles actually did "it"... went and drove through jungles, deserts and siberian wilderness...? Was the roof rack designed as a recovery point on those things? Just to add a bit more fuel to the fire, maybe I should be looking at a "wolf" instead...
  12. Ahhhh yeah, I never thought of that... wondered why it was a pain in the ass trying to get the stuff in... yup its messy...
  13. Hey Paul, I was down Yeovil at the fleet air arm meuseum early in the summer, really good place to visit. A 110 could fit the bill, is it a CSW or truck? and why would you sell it without an engine? is it on roadworthy? Mav
  14. I'd say 90% of the time I'm in a state of indecision mainly induced by shear boardom at work! Th rather large assuption there is that I'd be abandoning the 90, I won't be getting rid of that I've tried but just couldn't the thing is inexplicably attached to me. I lost enough blood sweat and tears on that truck to rival any child birth!!! The problem is the boardom, I like to plan new idea's then stupid friends try and pursuade me to spend my well saved money on other random rubbish. I ended up in Dubai last time I got board, that was a bit of a pain. Back on topic - I like the idea functionality of a Camel, life sustaining capacity, go everywhere adaptability, the rought plan is to turn the 90 into something resembling a camel just not the sand glow colour, I'm not a fan of Replica's... but I have this constant nag that the 90's not got the space for what my "vision" is of it - I've got heaps of photos of expadition type 90's and ones pulling trailors etc so I know its possible... but its the old "everyone else uses a 110"... yeah I know I don't have too, but there's probably quite a healthy reason why they do... Unfortunatly non of my friends around here are into 4x4's, I just need a good slap from time to time from my good forum buddies, that actually what I'm doing is not a bad thing and could work. - cheers fridge.
  15. Also true, there is the exclusivity of being 1 of a not so many people I guess, my problem is like anyone who's taken a land rover apart I know whats its worth in bits, and I don't agree with whats its worth together. Hmm I'm good at talking myself out of things aren't I. Maybe they are a piece of history now and belong is museums and private collections.
  16. you could have said it was a softy at the beginning, yeah probs wont make much difference, defo remove for painting.
  17. I don't generally do things in halves pimp mobile is not "intended" to go offroad - so nice show vehicle... camel trophy not "intended" to go onroad happiest in a jungle somewhere p.s. I started the topic so I can divert it too
  18. I actually agree whole heartedly with this comment, unfortunatly my present 90 seems to scream "let's off road" which I'm not entirly happy about, but put up with for the time being. Strangly if I did have 20k to burn I wouldn't infact invest it in a camel, I would buy one of these My link haha - which alternativly screams "pimp". I just think its a bit of a shame that it seams more camel's are being "restored" into museum pieces as opposed to bashing theough Africa and beyond. I'll perhaps buy a poster and stick it too the back of the garage door i don't have yet...
  19. My dream truck would be a Camel 110, its one of those annoying things you can't explain! So I keep my eye out for whats around at the moment. WHAT IS HAPPENING to the price of them just now, Nene have got 2 of them one is for 20k the other is 30k!!! one on fleebay for 16k and another one on the camel website for 16k too... This time last summer there was a chap selling one Durham way for 12k and it was as good as the others. I've just about saved up enough to have got the one last year and again the ownership of one seem to be slipping out my grasp again!!! At this rate I'll be able to afford a full size cardboard cutout... or I suppose I could have my 90 wrapped in a camel trophy "print"... Now this is the depressing part where people tell me about all the cheap Camel trophy's they've seen... Mav
  20. leave the sound proofing in if you can!!! yes it will make a difference! I'm just away to stick that stuff to every exposed square inch of flat metal i can find!!! caviet: - if it looks like its harbouring rust/corrosion then remove it, paint it then re-apply some sound proofing. Mav
  21. hmmmmm i'm guessing that was when I bought the drivers side!... lesson learned, part number now recorded in my spare parts spreadsheet, thanks again.
  22. The pressed frame type... I didn't actually know there where 2! Thanks Ralph
  23. Hello, Does anyone know the part number for the steel type Defender front doors, passanger side front to be precise. Thanks Mav
  24. Yeah, i think thats one of my greatest fears for my ageing loom, I have replaced a fair chunck of it including the engine loom, but I still like to keep the fire extinguisher nice and accessible!
  25. Ok, after a week spent on my touring biking cycling up the Outer Hebrides gives you a bit of time to think! and check out a fair few fancy Land rovers other people (usually dutch or Germans) where using on there holidays! So Saturday just gone I went a test driving... I've found a local 110 double cab 02 plate 80k on the clock for 7500... doesn't sound bad until you start looking at the jobs it needs doing, After the first test drive of a TD5 I was suprised to see how much more responsive it is mainly pulling away but as soon as you start getting to 60+mph its very much similar to my 200Tdi 90 (which was a pleasant suprise actually) - the Service history had a stamp in at 21k and then 72k... not exactly what you want to see really... Jobs I found that needed doing included: rear cross member, front springs, front disc & pads, all 4 doors bent and rusty - non of them shut properly, fron left swivel seal leaking, very juddery pulling away on 1st with very little throttle - so cluch needed looking at... I was a little but disgusded it even got through its MOT to be frank, aspecially with the lumpy breaks and at least 1 colapsed spring. anywhooo I was pleasantly suprised how confident I was about telling the dealer chap the list of my findings! he soon stopped arguing with me. Seeing how much its been abused doesn't inspire me to pursue this one... So next test drive was something a little more plush.... 56 plate Land rover 110 XS 40k on the clock in a rich dark blue... I think it was about 16k... OMG I think I have been spoilt for life after this experience, I rather fine vehicle that tickled my tast buds but unfortunatly was to much casheroonies for me... Now I belive I have learnt a small lesson here (which is unusual for me) and I'm going to save the pennies up so I can buy summit a little bit smarter than another money pit. Its a nice feeling to walk into a car/truck dealership and know precisely what you're looking at and have the confidance to say, "oi thats wrong" - one thing is for certain, I'm buying a noise killer kit for the 90 as its rediculously loud compared to the other 2 vehicles!
