  1. Ok sorted that. It wont run anyways as it's not compatiable with a 64byt system I give up.
  2. Ok i thought I was ok with IT stuff but now I'm out my depth, downloaded the CD - files, now how do I put them on a disc? I burnt them to one? but then what? I can't get the file to open. any advice would be appreciated. mav
  3. There are a few on fleebay at the moment, they are the discovery 200Tdi model though. they do have defender ones come up though.
  4. Cheers Aragorn, What is Microcat, heard it around here but never investigated?
  5. Hello, I'm building a TD5 onwards drivers side door and looking for pretty much all the internals, does anyone have a later version of the defender parts catalogue witch has this in. Cheers Mav
  6. I drew the 90, its my vehicle, well almost, It's good tool to use to see what it will look like with say roll cage, roof rack etc. I'll see if I can convert it - I'll get back to you.
  7. glad ir wasn't just me that thought it odd!
  8. HAHAHA, I didn't say they where equal. Indeed Autocad 3d, Inventor, Solidworks, Rinho, 3D studio max all have there own application, and to get good modeling you really need to use a combination of each. Google has one huge (in my view) advantage over the previous stated is that its free and also there is an open source element to the program that allows you to add extra drawing functions (ruby console) I have been using Google (free) for almost 3 years, you can create 3d curved profiles extremly quickly, it has 2d - 3d viewing with heaps of functions. - you cannot draw a ships hull in Inventor! Its not the best for making manufacturing drawings, but again with a little work its not so difficult. For home use and concept design its an amazing program.
  9. I got a new lucas switch and found that the bulb they had used for the switch light was too big and it was actually shorting te bulb supply connection - which casued it to pop the fuse continuously, went through a handfull of fuses before I found out what it was.
  10. Forget Solid works - Google sketchup is the way forward! fully scalable, 3d software thats totally free! heaps of tutorials out there and help, very easy to use. I use it at work for concept design, way faster than Inventor.
  11. Check out this intresting conversion... http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/land-rover-off-roader-2-5di-transit-milner-conversion-/150464460105?cmd=ViewItem&pt=Automobiles_UK&hash=item2308617549
  12. Hey Mo, yeah I've been looking at bearings on fleebay - decided to go with a couble of sets of Bearmach kits. Also got some timken priced up too. if the Bearmach ones look carp then I'll buy some Timken bearings seperatly, went for the kits as they come with oil seal/gasket/locking washer etc. Mav
  13. Start looking through ur parts catalogue and workshop manual and do everything as systematic as you can, there is no hard and fast way of doing things (in order of). Ebay is a continual source of verious bolt/screw kits example - floor fixing screws etc. These are all useful, but I started off with a selection multi box of nuts and bolts from Halfords, now whenever I see bolts I buy em in, varying sizes needed. I would say this though. get a ratcheting 13mm spanner, you'll find a lot of stubborn M8's.
  14. I'll try planting this one, I could make a fortune.... "Genuine land rover doors, 2nd genaration - home grown" hmm on 2nd thoughts, thats maybe what britpart do and look at there rep...
  15. Holy monkeys, you might need that exorcist... Assuming it was ok in the first instance, i.e. fuel stop solanoid working, sounds like it could be a local fault to your starter/starter circuit, as it didn't fire up then no fuel getting to the engine - so the ignition wasn't on. If its local, perhaps the solanoid switch on the starter could have stuck on - it could only have done that if maybe the spring in the solanoid had failed and not opened the switch properly... or a fault further up the starter circuit i.e. ignition switch, that somhow closed the starter circuit, would have to look at the ignition switch to work out if its possible to just power up one circuit (starter) without powering up the fuel stop solanoid.
  16. B&Q did angle last time I was in. limited profiles but they did it in Alu/steel
  17. Cheers Aragorn, that sthe answer I was looking for. STC4382 was also used on the Disco 1 and RRC was it not, in fact all vehicles I guess that used the same axels.
  18. Just to clarify... you car tried to start itself??? i.e. power to started motor? was it just clicking away as though the starter solanoid was activating, or was it actually spinning up the motor?
  19. Have a Salisbury rear axels that needs new wheel bearings, are they the same as standard axles? also are there any model changes throughtout the years and axel numbers? My understandng is there isn't, except a slight change in a model of half shaft which changes the way the locking washer located on the shaft??? is that correct? cheers Mav
  20. Hehe A pepetual problem I feel I keep hitting - cross compatability of parts - I wish there was a document showing all the parts that have cross compatibility across land rover vehicles. Let me know when you take the plunge
  21. buy a clapped out one on ebay for 500 squid, then spend 20k on it to restore it - you still have 26k change... even the website says you can make one look like that for £11500... ... ... I guess the guy that buys that smokes cigars made from rolled up £50's...
  22. I've been thinking the same thing... not come to a conclusion yet as had to put it on the back burner. Some interesting reading in this post. http://forums.lr4x4.com/index.php?showtopic=56568&st=0&p=499597&fromsearch=1entry499597 Mav
  23. I have a literally shiney post 06 door in my greenhouse. looks like its all been electro plated rather than "hot dipped" looks a lot tidyer that a standard hot dip like LRforever said. - quite a bit lighter than I was expecting it to be actually.
  24. Also for info, for a TD5 HZ switch, to get the little light in the button to illuminate you join the black/red wire with the orange/red wire. My 86reg 90 with original loom, the dark green wire had a small white rubber band marker on, this attaches to the White with green trace wire as Kev says.
  25. I was going to say the wife... but thats anything under 15mph...
