  1. Like the Roo bar - that won't be legal in the UK unfortunately though
  2. Can you share a picture of the plug? That may help people identify it
  3. That pit jack is worth a decent wedge of money! Wish I had a scrap man like yours too
  4. Bit of an odd one this. When cleaning the main lower dash to refit on my 200tdi defender I heard a rattle which led me to finding this. Is it a security feature of some sort if the main plates wa removed? It matches the truck
  5. To close this out @Nonimouse very kindly sent me a new cover FOC for which I donated £20 to the forum @Hybrid_From_Hell I fitted the new cover with a new cork gasket and some extra sealant for luck. I then welded a washer to the filler plug and cut a rubber washer from a tractor inner tube. Hopefully that is it now sorted Thanks all
  6. Might put that in as a preventative measure when I change the seal in mine. Currently it is coming out of the bottom nearly as quick as you pour it in the top!
  7. Insure value sounds reasonable to me
  8. Looks like he has done a lovely job of it
  9. I don't remember it being pitted if I am honest but will take a look when I pull it apart. Whatever happens it is going to get a new seal for now as I need the truck Will investigate the availability of the main shaft
  10. Have these all round on my 90 and they made a huge difference. Mine is set up for the weight of the winch on the front and regularly towing 3500kg so I have HD Genuine springs all round
  11. My steering box is leaking yet again from the bottom seal. I have replaced it a number of times over the years and have fitted various seals and tried fitting them in slightly different positions to overcome any wear on the shaft. The current one has lasted 6k miles and is now way beyond a slight occasional drip. The good news being I know the drop arm will come off ok as it is nicely lubricated and has been off lots of times! What do people suggest other than a new box which I would like to avoid given the rest of it is fine with no play in it or any other leaks. Genuine seal? One of the seal kits from Zeus? https://www.zeus.uk.com/index.php?dispatch=products.view&product_id=8 These are the options for STC2847 from Britcar currently
  12. Yes it does but you need the kit to do it. Filter in the middle of the v in the engine so from the top too. You need a decent size one to do it in one go as they hold 9.5 litres
  13. That's the back one isn't it? Possibly just the front one that went. You do not want to undo the back one until the oil is almost completely out (either by suction or sump plug) as it is in an awful place above the sub frame Have a 3.6 and a 4.4 to service in the next week or two so will take a look and report back
  14. 3.6 has two plugs on the engine. 4.4 has none!! When they removed the proper dipstick they replaced it with a tube for sucking the oil out. You can remove this at the sump but not advised as it is not designed to keep coming off. The first one I sucked the oil out I then took it off to see how much oil was left, pleasantly surprised to only get and egg cup full out
  15. I have exactly this but find I hardly ever use the wheels free as it is a hassle to get the Land Rover in exactly the right place for the fixed left hand beam. Instead I have a pair of jacking beams which I use all the time as you can drive a car on and then lift either or both ends to do things such as brakes at a really nice easy height
  16. Would be nice to see some pictures of the Queen and her Land Rovers over the years on this thread
  17. Had a smart meter in my old house for electric only as we were on bulk LPG. All it does is show you how much you are using at a given point in time and a total amount used per day You then need to utilise that information yourself to see what you could turn off standby/try different things to see how you can get that daily usage down
  18. Re Tesla leading the 'charge' I totally agree. See 'watt' I did there... Re the 5 series, maybe I am still too in love with my E39 535i AC Schnitzer from the glory days 🤣
  19. Being to the side and not in front of me would drive me insane. Hard enough to keep to the speed limit as it is
  20. Where is the speedo? Or is it a heads up display? You do soon get used to different cars though I agree
  21. I have only had a look at the Etron GT which is the one that is the sister car to the Taycan and a lot more expensive than the rest of the range admittedly. I probably was not being that clear - I am in the latter category too. The cars designed ground up as electric are going to be a much better comparative package than a redesigned ICE car. What I don't like is the futuristic styling nonsense for the sake of it, think back to the BMW i3 for example! It is less the build quality but more the quality and design of the materials used. The fit, finish and material quality of say a BMW 5 series is leagues ahead of a Tesla. I also hate garish Tesla tablet thing that controls everything but that is more a personal taste thing I guess. In case people have never seen one a Model S (I know a new model is out soon) currently looks like this and starts at £80k A BMW 5 Series around the 55k mark looks like this
  22. Nonimouse has sorted me a new cover plus I think I will do the same with a washer on the plug an take the belt and braces approach
  23. The comments on here are interesting and goes to show how things differ greatly depending on if it is a company car and you get taxed heavily on it or if you are paying with your own money. I did see a post on a mechanics group on Facebook earlier this week discussing the highest number of miles seen on an electric car. There were reports of a few Tesla's with 180-230k and a Nissan leaf with 150k! I wouldn't want to drive a Nissan leaf 15 miles so thought that was pretty keen 🙂 For me to pay my own money for an electric car the technology needs to be a bit more proven re how the batteries age and how the resale holds up and as mentioned above it will take a while for all that to filter down over the next few years Up till now I felt the electric cars on sale were all trying too hard to look like something funky/out there instead of being an electric version with similar styling to the rest of that brands vehicles. This is beginning to change dramatically though with the new electric BMW's being much closer to the styling of the rest of the range for example What I also think will be interesting is how well Tesla manage to continue to compete with the likes of BMW/Audi/Porsche now that they are all up and running. My wife's company runs a few Tesla's including a couple of the top spec models and the quality of the interior is miles off an Audi E-tron GT or the Porsche Taycan alongside a practically non existent dealer network which has caused them quite a bit of hassle. I am happy to stay with the diesels for now and have just bought a diesel Panamera. 420bhp/850MN, 40plus mpg on a run and up to an 800 mile range on a tank. It should make the trip to the south of France next week a relaxed enjoyable experience
