  1. It's been a while since I sold those pumps, but judging by the depth of the borehole, I reckon on looking at somewhere around £400. Grundfos aren't the only makes either. Try Lowara or Ebara. I worked for the latter of those two. There are plenty of distributors in the area, but the one I can really wholeheartedly recommend is Total Pumps in Devon. Borehole Hope it all goes OK. These are simple pumps, but often repairs are uneconomic.
  2. A mate of mine suggested this trick that car dealers use: After switching off the engine, pump the brakes until the pedal goes hard (just the pedal, nothing else....), which apparently locks the brakes on all 4 wheels until the engine is started and the servo releases its pressure on the calipers. Coupled with an immobiliser switch, the car would be almost impossible to move.
  3. Let's not forget one very important fact here. Vegetarianism is an option. People choose to abstain from meat. A cow or sheep hasn't the choice to be here or not. And their life span is far shorter if we eat them. Therefore, the vegetarians are voluntarily choosing to kill our planet. And most of them are ramblers who read The Guardian; both further contributing to the loss of this planet. And by virtue of being vegetarian and Guardian readers, they must also, by default, be gay. And therefore their occupation must be either a politician or Big Brother contestant.
  4. John, have you factored in the selling price of your '07 alloys and tyres?
  5. Well, that's the biggest result so far. Mrs-Acceptance. Wifey loves my 110. Refers to it as a car that has to be driven, rather than simply puting our Merc in gear and not worrying. Nice 90. Very clean. You need a set of black wheels....
  6. Black wheels and white lettering. Mmmmm!!! Just like mine is now.
  7. Didn't see that, but (and sorry for diverting a touch here) did anyone see Equator on Sunday night? Some guy travelling round the world's equator. He arrived in some equatorial country and announced that thay'd need to take a four-wheel-drive to reach their destination. The road was a muddy track. So, what fine piece did they get? A Frontera! On road tyres! They then showed this machine being slithered along this track, engine screaming until they reached a hill. Camera close-up of mud-covered tyres clearly spinning. Very obviously the wrong tyres. Then they arrive at some water. A short ford crossing. And they reckon they're flummoxed, so they get the locals to help pull the car through while the idiot reporter is trying to drive through. Turns out the water is only about 2ft deep, but this guy is nervous as hell. An abject lesson in how NOT to drive. You'd have thought they'd have done some research.
  8. Why not try your local friendly exhaust specialist? They may have a bit of mild steel pipe that they can weld in place of the silencer. That's more-or-less how mine was done.
  9. As has been said many times before. 1. Glad you're OK. 2. Sorry it happened. 3. Hope you turn this into a positive thing. Difficult, but use the experience wisely. Hope the insurance / replacement work goes well.
  10. Better have a look here then.... It'll tell you all you need to know. Have fun! Approx. 20bhp increase and 35lb/ft torque increase.
  11. Pendle do a Land Rover version which fits over the towball or, with an adapter, enables the towball to be used as well. I've had mine for about 8 months and have taken my 3 bikes on holiday a few times. It's well worth the £100 I paid from my local cycle shop. Pendle Mine easily fits round the standard spare and will easily accomodate large tyres. It holds 4 bikes. I usually buy a few extra straps which I use to secure the bikes to the rack, and the rack to the little handles on the rear crossmember. Works for me. The only downside (for me anyway) is that my spare as fitted to the door is off-centre. The right-hand leg therefore sits directly under the lowest point of the wheel and so doesn't have enough room to fit in the towball bracket. I loosen the bracket nuts a bit, swing the bracket round on the 'ball, insert the leg and swing back and tighten again. Bit of an arse to do but I've no choice unless I had my 'ball lowered a bit.
  12. 110 300Tdi CSW with pump tweak and K&N etc; 265/75 BFG At's; mostly me driving and a 30 mile round trip each day; 50% motorway gets 30mpg. I have seen 33mpg but that was being very careful. Worst was 25mpg. I carry absolutely nothing during the week. Loaded with camping gear and wifey etc gets 27mpg on average in Summer. The heavy winter months sees a drop of ~2 to 3mpg as most of my driving is done at night. Haven't recorded MPG with the new intercooler yet, but my driving style has hardened a bit and I'm driving on motorways a bit faster, plus accelerating quicker. Once I've got over the euphoria, I'd say the same MPG figures, if driven with restraint.
  13. Will, you don't strike me as a nervous type of chap! Especially after the chemist shop incident.... From the feedback so far, you're looking at ~30 Land Rovers and there's still 7 weeks to go! For a first event (and I sincerely hope it's the first of many), I don't think that's too bad at all. Considering there's been a slight rumbling lately of 'old fashioned' shows / meetings becoming popular again, I don't see why this event wouldn't catch on. By the way, I meant to ask you if the jet-ski people in their Mitsubishi L200's still go to Lynmouth? It would be kind of fun to have the place full of LR's and two L200's parked up in the harbour.
  14. Mo, have a look at this site.... Clicky clicky Loads to choose, some excellent makes and good prices. Hope this helps!
  15. Go for a standard size high-flow intercooler as they're far cheaper and generate almost the same power as a full-width one. Mine's been done by Brunel Performance. Speak to Jon. I've also had my pump tweaked. This was done before the intercooler was fitted and will be further tweaked next week post-intercooler. A bit of an arsey (and expensive) way to do things, but I now know the effect each mod has had. I'm told, but can't confirm (yet), I've got around 155bhp. I also ran some Wynn's Injector Cleaner through and was pleasantly surprised by the improvement. Well-worth £5!! I've got a K&N and it does improve the throttle response but keep it clean, otherwise it doesn't do much. Mid-box has been taken out but that's it exhaust-wise. Hasn't made much difference. I don't have EGR. Can't comment on the rest. I'd be interested in your findings. A Turner performance head is something I don't want to think about as I know I'll want one if I find out more....
  16. The immigrant underneath trying to catch your attention... Sorry. That wasn't of use.
  17. If it were me, I'd go the 300Tdi route. A number of reasons: 1. You appear to live relatively remotely, so it would / should be easier to fix. 2. You won't need to buy that computerised electrical download doodah if you're serious about home repairs. 3. Veg oil compatible. But, as always, buy on condition. Any pics to give us a better idea? Anyway, why change? What are your reasons?
  18. Hers's my highly simplistic view: V8's are attractive mainly because of the noise. Tdi's are more economical and can produce excellent power and torque. A different exhaust will make it sound nicer. You know your current Tdi 110 well. For the sake of a few seats and 2 doors plus tyres and suspension, why go to all the trouble of changing and then having the hassle of unexpected repairs to a vehicle you don't know? Even without reading the other posts, I'd have said to stick with your 110 HT. Now, if you found a CSW body with seats etc and could fit the crossmember etc to your current chassis, then that would make sense, especially as you'd have your old HT body to sell on and recoup costs.
  19. I used to park my VW on the road with a full cover over it when at University in Portsmouth. I lived next to a Police station and never had any problems. It used to be covered for at least 2 weeks at a time. But I did find that it didn't serve any real purpose - it can hide vandalism (I was lucky...) and can act as a thief magnet. After my first few terms, I left it at home. Why do you wish to cover your LR?
  20. I've never met any of you, apart from JSG. And I wouldn't recommend anyone trying to spot my ugly mug. I'm irrelevant. Ralph's appeared in a few photo's on this forum, I've noticed, yet his facial features are never identifiable. Maybe he's the LR4x4 version of the Milk Tray man - always silhouetted yet never identified... I'm not convinced I'd be of interest to any of you. I'm a boring, antisocial sod and quite proud of it.
  21. You've offered a very broad pallet here. No one answer really is correct as the ideal weight of a 4x4 (or any other car type) is governed by the conditions in which it is used. Plus, weight being one issue, you must also consider ground pressure which is heavily dependant upon tyre selection. Then there's the grip available from both the tyre, drivetrain, driver and surface. Then there's power and how it's made available. Plus you've got to consider in what context the weight saving would help. Grip? Fuel economy? Speed? Acceleration? Narrow down the boundaries a little and solutions become clearer. I assume you're talking about challenge events? I'd say weight wasn't half as important as the skill of the driver.
  22. Personally, I loved Billing, but then it was my first visit there. And i'll be going back next year. But the show you're describing David does sound great. More grass-roots and less glitz. I like that. But I went to one of those last year when the Dunsfold Collection had it's bi-annual show and I must admit it was bluddy fab!! Really friendly, relaxed, all LR's parked in the middle of the arena, decent off-road course (which was for rides in LR Experience LR's only - but still great) and decent food and prices. I really hope they do it again in 2008 - it's only a 40 minute drive from me and we'll probably even camp there as well as the atmosphere was so good. I don't blame you for doing this and I really hope it's a success for you. Next year will be very busy, what with the 60th Anniversary celebrations, and I'm sure shows will be doing all they can to mark this. Peter Gallilee in LRO has commented on a growing preferance for the same type of show as you're organising - Leafers in't Pit and Langley Farm being cases in point. I really hope it works out!
  23. I get mine (Castrol GTX Magnatec Diesel) from Costco. Way cheaper than Halfords (a good £5 / 4litres cheaper) and I've found it good stuff. When I do my gearbox and diff oils, I'll be going the Difflock route. I've heard Very Good things about their Evo oils.
  24. B*gger! Andy, up until your post, I was the only one who had a set of those black sport alloys!!
  25. Mike Gemini recommends re-greasing wheel bearings every 12 months as a preventative maintenance job. I've got to admit, it makes sense and will make time to do this (another learning curve for me...) when I've got an opportunity to make mistakes do it.
