  1. Brunel on my 300 Tdi 110. I'd not go anywhere else now.
  2. If you're concerned with too much smoke, maybe you need to re-adjust the pump instead of spending money on a new intercooler? Fitting an uprated intercooler seems like an awfully cack-handed way of trying to reduce smoke. However, if you're looking for genuine performance gains then my Brunel intercooler on top of a pump tweak worked well for me. That was then followed by a further small pump tweak. If you want more power and less smoke, then why not fit a switchable LPG-injection system instead which'll clean out your engine a tad and give you another 25 horses when activated?
  3. I had the same problem for a long time, despite my 110 being serviced by specialists twice in 18 months, so I made the decision to do the job myself and figured that if I was going to spend time underneath stripping the thing, I may as well replace it and be guaranteed it'll work. So, I bit the bullet and fitted a new X-Brake. If you need new brake shoes or any other form of expenditure on the transmission brake, bear in mind you COULD offset those costs towards an X-Brake and forget about it for another 10 years. However, I'm told the drum brake does work very well when correctly adjusted. I've just never experienced it.
  4. Come on Ralph. You know me. Mechanically inept. How easy? How long? Will I need any special tools? I'm told it's a single nut, but the access looks bad.???? Thanks for the part numbers - I'll get them ordered.
  5. Gents, I was only checking my oil level. Honest. Took the dipstick out and half the tube came with it. It's snapped just above the bracket thing just below the first bend looking from above, if that makes sense. To be fair, this was pointed out to me when the head was replaced a few months ago. Can anyone tell me if this can be replaced easily? I hope the exhaust manifold doesn't need to be removed as I ain't got the long sockets required to remove it. I'll tape it for now, but it's holding OK. Just need to get it mended. Heeeelllllllp!!
  6. Correct, Mr Henson. Turners don't supply new ones any more and they advise anyone with a 200Tdi to look after it and not damage the head. Same with the injectors.
  7. How do you check the breather pipe? That ocurred to me too, but I don't know how to check it. Sorry, Steve, for the mild hijack.
  8. Blimey!! OK, will try to do that. Thanks!! And there's me thinking Les's reply was taking the wee-wee.
  9. Another pic to help. You can see the threaded nut very clearly.
  10. I've just bought and fitted a set of Safari treesliders to my 110. Very impressed with both Safari as a company and their product.
  11. I've been playing the ZZ Top Eliminator album in my 110 for the past few weeks and it's always the cars I think of first when any of their music is on.
  12. Sorry guys. Mandy can't get on here anymore and just wants to be fair with you and voice a counterpoint. Their prices reflect what other tour companies charge. Each to their own, but please don't write an option out just because it looks expensive. All opinions are valid and I'm not taking sides - just trying to help a friend with a valid response.
  13. Ed, the owners of Alpine Rovers (Mike and Mandy) are personal friends of mine. Mandy would like you to contact her via their website and discuss things. www.alpinerovers.com They're highly knowledgeable and helpful. DEFINITELY worth a chat at the very least.
  14. I don't run Wolf rims but do run 265/75/16 BFG AT's on alloys and find them noiseless on the road and excellent off it. Many have reported very low noise levels on BFG MT's too, so I guess that's a matter of personal choice. 265's fill the arches better, but that would also be determined by the wheel offset. Consider the tyre height too. 255's have a taller sidewall and would benefit your gearing a little more for road use..
  15. I'd always liked Ben Fogle as he's a rare celebrity without pretence and always seems to be a decent chap. The LRO feature was a surprise and the chap's gone even higher in my estimations. Never have liked the term Landy or Lannie either. People at work ask me how the 'Landy' etc is and I have to resist a strong urge to either hit them or be unbelievably rude to them. What's wrong with Land Rover? It's only 2 more syllables and hardly an effort to say. And it sounds far nicer. Please, can we stop this talk of a naked Ben Fogle?! It's in very poor taste. Naked women are fine; an art form , but to see the twig and berries whilst eating one's lunch is not good.
  16. I already mentioned Meguiar's, which is mostly available in Halfords. I do tend to consume vast quantities of Autoglym and always fall back to that as it's the best compromise between cost and effectiveness. Get some good lint-free cloths (old Terry nappies work really well, if you have them...) and get stuck in. I know it's not very Land-Rovery to keep a clean car, but it does make regular cleaning a whole lot easier and it's good exercise.
  17. Meguiar's 3-stage paint treatment works really well. Way better than T-Cut and kinder to the paintwork too. I've found that building up layers of wax on the paint (and therefore removing all the faded paint) works well, although you don't really want to know how long it's taken me. Regular (I mean at least once a month in the summer; more if you're sad like me...) waxing works best.
  18. I've bent my side steps enough on my 110 and only do gentle greenlaning and pay n' play days. They've snagged on tree roots, rutted ground etc and always make a noise big enough to make you believe you've done serious damage underneath. The last gentle greenlaning day we did a few weeks ago saw the two front steps bent beyond on-vehicle straightening methods. They also scratched my sills a little. So, they've now been removed and Tom at Safari Equip has taken a few ££ off me for a pair of his galved and powder-coated tree sliders. A friend has a pair of tubular side steps on his 90 and said that, ideally, they need to come off in exchange for tree-sliders, even with a 2" lift.
  19. It's not a County, but £3850 still seems awfully low for a 110 300Tdi SW. I think you did well to miss that one.
  20. Turners do a replacement head bolt set for £25. I've just replaced my 300Tdi head and the new bolts weren't even a consideration in my view. Just buy them and don't worry.
  21. If you've got the Allisport intercooler, I'm told they supply the fuel pump tweak instructions when they ship the intercooler for DIY fitment. Why not give Allisport a call and ask them to send you the DIY-fit instructions?
  22. I've got Trekker hibacks in the rear of my 110. Standard in the front. From my point of view (as someone who hasn't sat on them, but has specified them and has used them for almost 2 years), they're great. The quality is every bit as good as genuine seats and the fabric match is spot on. Front seat-wise, I find the standard seats way better than expected. I'm 6ft 4" and find their support and comfort, even on long trips, excellent.
