  1. I vote Dolly as the winner up to now Lara
  2. Many years ago all I wanted to do was be an engineer, so I did my apprenticeship and after one or two other companies, went to work for a large local engineering firm with over 1500 staff, been going since 1911 it had. When I started on the workshop floor all the old guys said you have a job here for life mate! AUEW closed shop! All the work was on a clocking system, you had a given time to do a job and if you did it in 110% of the time it was flat rate, 100% first bonus 90% top bonus, well all the times were set by monkeys and 50% was easy for a blind man but you were not allowed to clock faster by order of the Union This they said kept the slow guys in their jobs When I needed a large base plate drilling that I had marked out ready for a prototype installation I took it to the drilling department and asked "how long" (the guy was on a deck chair reading a news paper, not on tea break etc and was doing nothing) and was told 3 weeks, but he was doing nothing! He said he was on max bonus and was not going any faster, when I started drilling it my self, this was taking his job and I was stopped by the shop steward under threat of a walkout The company was being dragged to its knees by lazy idiots with blinkers on I went and got another job, out of unions forever and vowed never to have anything to do with them again. One week after I had given my notice the company announced redundancies and was closing down due to loss of profit etc. Union answer? ALL OUT !!!!!! Bad management ovcourse was the scream from the shop floor The management have no interest in swear filter is there for a reason people off, all they want to do is make money and that is what they are paid for, sometimes in business you are forced to let people go but it is far better some staff than all staff as in my experience above. If those union idiots on our shop floor had seen that, then they would all still have jobs know! Christmas? If customers pay double at Christmas and employees do not want bonuses then Christmas is a good argument, otherwise it is just another day in the big “real” world. Think about the whole not just the little bit you are sat in is a very good principle for workers and management alike Lara.
  3. Ugliest thing I ever saw, up close it looks like a super stretched Ford Ka, Lady Penelope's car was a Rolls Royce anyway not a poxy Ford. And Lady Pelelope was supposed to be happy to be seen driving it? I think she would have shot her self first, She had class she did Next we will see Jamas Bond driving a BMW Lara.
  4. I have a folder full of these ammusing things, Have a look at this link. www.whatsthebloodypoint.com Lara
  5. May have the answer, The dealer here in Belgium told me that the earlier TRs they supplied were supplied to them without the cages and chequer plate etc and they had to fit all the bits and some parts were supplied to them dirrect from the suppliers of said bits, I think it may have been a LR decision not to fit the other cage bits if or when they bottled out of the Roll Cage isue, still not explaining the wall thickness though, but that could easily be explained by a change in specs some time during production. Lara.
  6. Hi Dave, Did you know the owner of GGS owns a Lagonda like wot I sell? Lara.
  7. Suzuki Rino, Rolls Royce Gnome helicopter gas turbine, 1800shp and a weight of 230kgs Aluminum Portal axles to overcome the need for 5inch half shafts and the fact that the engine turns at 20.000rpm, 40" Boggers etc. AND If you modify the exhaust to give vectored thrust you can either lift yourself up out of the bog or just ski over it Or just dry the mud and drive out. One of my guys just woke me up, Sorry Lara.
  8. This seems to be an odd one, I have a Tomb Raider with a cage or whatever you want to call it made in 2mm thick steel and it has correct chassis extensions fitted at the factory, others I have seen are made in either 1.5mm or the same 2mm and most do not have the chassis support extensions I think maybe they made the first batch and then got legal cold feet and changed spec and description OR maybe SD made the first batch and LR the rest??? Is a strange situation though. Lara.
  9. Sounds like a test for BRAINIACS Lara.
  10. Siggy, A few years ago I did what you wished you had done, to a prat who tried to test brake me in my 110 with Warn 12000 on the front I felt really good doing it BUT I could have killed him quite easily, his mid size saloon was shorter than a fiat punto after I had finished After I had done it I really regretted that I had lost my rag and that prat just was not worth jeopardizing the rest of my life for, remember that our vehicles are like small trucks and rock hard, (my 110 had a scratch on the bumper) please just let them go and think to your self that you (we) are better than that. A stupid loss of temper while driving can easily end up in someone loosing their life, don't let it involve you. Reverend Lara
  11. Fitting instructions, 1. Take old one out. 2. Fit new one 3. Its realy as easy as that 2a. As long as you have the correct bearings, Quaife diff has metric bearing diameters and Landy housing is Imperial, Phone Devon 4x4 and they will send you the correct bearings next day delivery for next to nothing, great guys. (and girls) Lara.
  12. Totaly agree with BishBosh, I run Quaife diffs but would not say they are any bestter or worse than anything else, Just different horse for different course. I would fit them if I were in your boots. Lara.
  13. I've just gone to the loo, Sorry mate Lara.
  14. Agree with Luke, Sikaflex, Terroson, Tec7 etc is ideal Lara.
  15. Suddenly I hide under my Anorack Lara.
  16. The EGT is not really a good indicator of the power produced rather an indicator of combustion chamber burn condition. If you have fuel timing too early or late then your EGT will be higher for the same power than a correctly timed engine, If your engine is running slightly over rich then the same occurs but on a much smaller scale, If you run an overly lean condition (as on most standard turbo diesels) you will see a reduction in EGT for the same power, Like all things you must be very careful in reading the wrong information from just a little information. Certainly an EGT of over 720 deg C will cause problems if held for any length of time, but it may be caused by a lot of things and rarely just too much power, Experiments have shown that on a well setup diesel you can use as much as 15 BAR boost pressures (if properly fueled and intercooled) and still not get an EGT of over 720-C. (The bottom will come out of most engines at this level though ) The long and the short of your question though is this, For a given boost pressure you will get more air into your engine if it is efficiently intercooled and thus you will be able to burn more fuel at the correct ratio and if timed correctly (just like spark ignition on a petrol engine) you will get more power while still within the safe limits of your engine. Keep an eye on EGT by all means, as it WILL indicate when something is wrong but not necessarily that you are doing it correctly. Intercooler question really depends on your inlet boost pressure and whether you live in the North (sorry) South pole, bellow .8 bar or in the ant-arctic, an intercooler is not really a benefit on a diesel, above this then it becomes more and more critical, Very hot air at 3 Bar boost un-intercooled will probably be only as dense as 1.5 Bar efficiently intercooled (I am not about to calculate this to make a point so don't ask) regardless of EGT, so if the question is power for given boost pressure then use an intercooler, remember that the harder the exhaust works to spin the turbo the slower the exhaust gas escapes so you get less power potential that way as well! Hope this helps as I think I have written enough. Lara.
  17. Now un-sprung weight is a difficult question, and remember that for performance calculations you need to remember that it should be a percentage of the sprung weight, IE, a 2 ton car with 500lbs of wheels and axles will control the suspension differently than a 1 ton car with 500lbs of axles, AND, Is the spring sprung or un sprung? Is the radius arm sprung or un-sprung? Steering arms, Panhard rod, shockabsorbers? And if so how bigger percentage? I don't want to know and certainly can not be bothered to calculate that lot for a Landrover that is never going to realistically "handle" anyway Good luck Lara. What about when you go over a bump and leave the seat? should you then deduct the driver and co drivers weight My brain hurts
  18. Well Les, If you made that up your self then you are a very sad man indeed and need to get back under your landrover for a break Very funny though Lara.
  19. As the man says, What a wondeful weekend !!!!! Rain, Rain and more Rain, MUD as deep as anyone has ever seen, Woods to drive in that are as dense as any jungle, you could not walk through some sections that we had to drive (read winch) through. Terain to kill for social life excelent with so many great teams it was a real treat !!!!! We all got home in one piece with just a few dents and scratches, one all the way down one side but who cares it was fun First event I have done since fitting my new engine that I have not broken at least one half shaft, the new ones seem to be doing their job CU all next year, And in the bar SV? Lara.
  20. These are my Winch Bitches, With these on your team you have no rush at all And certainly do not need help from anyone else Lara.
  21. Looks nicely engineered B) Propper stuff. Lara.
  22. Have a look on my web site WWW.LMBRACING.BE and look at the contacts page then my comments and Julians other interest at the top of the page, you will see pics and info no my winch bumper, that started life as a Bikini bumper and morfed Lara.
