  1. Yep could be Will, Just thought I would make sure as I have heard a lot of metal specs being bandied about wrongly recently. For instance many people think 300M is Maraging 300, nothing further from the truth. Sorry Landyman if that is what you meant. Lara. Actually the CVs are supposed to be fine, just not the half shafts!
  2. Hi Dolly, Good to hear you are back safe from the land of Vodka! Don't think 500, 350 would be nearer to the mark, (still plenty) but when the new shafts broke he was not even using half of the available power! A bit worrying! specially as they made a mess of the diff carrier on the first one. Landyman, Be careful with your specs, 4340 is not strictly 300M ....... 300M or S155 specs as follows 300M is a low alloy, vacuum melted, steel of very high strength. Essentially it is a modified AISI 4340 steel with silicon, vanadium and slightly greater carbon and molybdenum content than 4340. 300M has a very good combination of strength (280 to 305 ksi), toughness, fatigue strength and good ductility.
  3. Before you all go mad, Ask Nick Fields in his Orange and White Disco Bob, how long his nice new unbreakable Rovertracks halfshafts lasted him! 1st one 10 minutes ! 2nd one 1 hour ! Not impressive I can tell you. Lara.
  4. Just print the pictures and take the flak! You will maybe save someones life with those! Lara.
  5. Best assessment of the real world I have ever heard. Bill Gates has my respect. Lara.
  6. I will post info and pics as soon as my new VGT unit is on and tested, making the manifold at the moment. Lara.
  7. Hi there, I think you will find just like me that an HP22/4 will not take 360ftlb / 490Nm torque for very long. My 90 has exactly 490NM and has eaten 5 or 6, 22/4s and at least as many torque converters (even specially uprated ones) I now have a specially uprated HP24 and a special 12" torque converter to cope with the power. Hopefully that setup will last. If doing it again I would 1000% deffinately fit a Yank box, probably a TH700 Lara.
  8. Hi Toger, No rebore as the bore walls are too thin, had a new crank and rods made etc and stroked it to 2.8 that way it gives better torque increase as well, (490 nm @ 2000) Soon to fit a Variable geometry turbo and tubular manifold as well for even more fun! Regards, Lara.
  9. Saw an artlicle in a mag the other day of mill manouvers and in the background? a nice camo 101 so unles (and I doubt it) it was an archive pic then I would say yes there are still some 101s in service. Lara.
  10. Keep the TD5 and don't waste money needlessly, if you want more grunt then spend 1000 pounds on an intercooler and boost upgrade from JE Eng or others and off you go! 4000 pounds better off! Or spent the full 5000 on the TD5 and my god you can have a fun engine!!!!!!!! Lara 2.8 litre TD5
  11. We say "Nice from far --- Far from nice" pictures of chicks in Landys are not needed, unless they can write good quality features about them AND look good, Roll on Miss Daniel, Lara. Did I say I fancied Laura Daniel? I sound like a 16 year old now Lara 4 Laura
  12. I run a 100l/min PTO driven hyd pump + a ZF auxilary power steering pump, this gives me a good line speed and the ability to wheel assist at at sensible speed, and the ability to wheel assist very carefully over rocks etc when you need the winch to go faster than the driving wheels while slowly climbing big steps, I am going to uprate the ZF to a larger displacement power steering pump shortly, for a little more speed on the "finess" pump. (in gear but wheels / PTO hardly moving) The PTO pump pulls like an express train if needed though. Only draw back is that at anything over a very slow crawl the wheels drive faster, No problem in mud but a little slow on the rocks. Must say though that I have not often encounted places that wheel assist is absolutely necessary. As HFH says though it does need careful thought and a fair bit of dosh. Lara,
  13. Could not have put it better my self, And as for the Santana chick! UGLY Give me Laura Daniel any day Lara.
  14. Agreed, the cost of a very strong uprated ZF auto and special Torque converter is expensive. If I were to do another auto setup I would fit a Turbo Hydro 700E, this is the 4 speed auto fitted to the current Corvete etc and can take gobs of power, and is very stupidly cheap for what it is! One will be going into my next project Lara.
  15. My Landy is absolutely perfect with the auto box, would never even consider changing for 1 nanosecond! Lag? What lag, the auto makes up for any boost lag with the torque converter, I have to lock mine in top gear and lock the Torque converter electronically just to test for boost lag!! Superb gearboxes but if going for big torque get a really strong one. Lara.
  16. I used to live close to and play as a child on Woodley aerodrome (near Reading) this was one of Barder's main postings during the war, my School house was also named Barder after him. Unfortunately it is a big housing estate now! At least all the roads are named after airplanes and personalities, "Barder Way" is my favorite. Pub landlord is a philistine; tell him it can be his new job to educate people instead of bathe in ignorance! Lara.
  17. My God! what a sight that must have been B) B) Wish I had been there ! Lucky sods Lara.
  18. I have Maxidrive 30% reduction Low transfer gears in my T box on the 90, nice kit, well designed, V strong and fitted easily. Reccomended. Lara.
  19. Look closer on both outer sides of the bearings and see if there is a number like 0.010" or 0.020" this will tell you if they are under size or not and by how much, if there are no numbers like this then it is a fair bet that the crank is of standard size. Lara.
  20. Stop p-----g arround and get a new rad, Do your self a favour and do the job properly, you know it is only going to get worse and probably when you need it most. Lara.
  21. If we are talking standard out of the box winch setups here I have only two sugestions, 1. for compettitions, you can't beat the simplicity and speed of the 8274, 2. For reliability, good speed and serious power then a Mile Marker with a standard PTO pump is fantastic, Both can be improved by bigger motors / pumps etc but the hydraulics seem to be much more reliable and far stronger, I have single line pulled with mine where a similar Defender with an 8274 with 6hp motor could not winch without a snatch block! And he needed a wheel assist where mine shot up without even a murmur. The 8274 on the other hand is a lot more simple. Lara.
  22. Best, My 90 and most of its other bits, + any work done by JE Engineering. Worst, So called strengthened half shafts, and any work done in the early days by a company who's name is connected to an island of green reptilian animals, Lara.
  23. When you really think about the whole "why are we here thing" life is not very sensible in general I think it is fine to do these things in a proffesional way, as these guys, but a bit silly if you do not have the safety and backup etc. Lara.
  24. Poor guy must be devastated, I live in front of my workshop, I also have two people living in an apartment inside my workshop 24/7 and 3 yes THREE (as the Nigerians would say) big burglar alarms with direct links (even with the phone lines down) to the very friendly and close police. But still wouldn't put it past some idiots to try. Lara.
