  1. I hear Nige has ordered this one .....
  2. Loving the behind the scenes pictures, I would never have guessed that about the garage in EP02! I don't have the time to start a youtube series (or a particularly engaging subject matter in mind), but I'd like to know how to do it properly in case I have a blinding flash of inspiration one day
  3. Very interesting, don't think you waffled at all. It's always surprising how much gear you need beyond the camera to do a proper job of the filming, also nice to see it doesn't have to be the latest top dollar kit either I'd love to see the diy stuff you've made to help. All the lav mics seem to be expensive, but I guess you get what you pay for. Using the inbuilt mic would sound rubbish and pick up all the noises from the lens too. Perhaps this is one situation where a cheap UV filter put on the lens really would be worthwhile protection for some close up work? The 1.6 crop factor reveals the camera maker
  4. Going slightly off topic ... what equipment are you using to do the filming? Cheers in the hope of a reply
  5. I took the photo about two years ago, all those cans have long since been emptied in to pint glasses and drank Those little 80's seem to fetch more than they deserve for such a small size. Look forward to seeing the toe jack, they always seem to be rated far higher than you'd expect.
  6. I do indeed have that record catalogue in the flesh as well as two later ones. There are better pictures in the pdf's I made of the vice sections of them. There are two versions of the 74, the early one has the 'valve stem holder'. https://www.dropbox.com/sh/9iwuyy1vzrwvszs/AAApmsWFvTmKRWUj53V7eiwla?dl=0&preview=1935-pocket-Record-No-14.pdf https://www.dropbox.com/sh/9iwuyy1vzrwvszs/AAApmsWFvTmKRWUj53V7eiwla?dl=0&preview=1950-pocket-Record-No-16.pdf Later full size 'colour' https://www.dropbox.com/sh/9iwuyy1vzrwvszs/AAApmsWFvTmKRWUj53V7eiwla?dl=0&preview=1963-Record-No-17-Vices.pdf One day I'll sell some of my vices ...... not today though
  7. This might help you see what is wrong with your No 23.
  8. Just found this and both episodes are excellent, reminds me a little of several of the is born series rolled into one Absolutely amazing to think you are doing such a high quality production single handed. Looking forward to episode 3.
  9. I also have a 75 amongst my admittedly far too large selection of vices, perhaps I have been spoiled by my quick release vices but it is a feature that I miss very quickly. I've never really been that bothered about having the swivel base, perhaps it's because they can slip when you are doing something silly Where is your web series sir? I'd be interested in seeing your flyers.
  10. I'd stay away from the 75, you'll get bored of the lack of quick release fairly quick and the exposed main screw when opened is just inviting a bit of Damaging Dave's attention Record 112 has the same size jaw as the 36 (6") so is another good choice, I'd not bother with a Record 25 .... I reckon you would break that.
  11. The jaws look like they came off another vice, the half a bolt is just because the person looks to have used any bolts they could find when they replaced the jaws. Neat feature on that Fortis F4 is they can be adjusted to remove any side to side slop thanks to the sloped sides on the slide and the allen screws.
  12. Record make vices from cheap rubbish all the way up to professional and almost indestructible. If you want something strong from Record try something in the following ranges. (don't buy new unless you lay golden eggs) No 34 - 36 No 110 - 114 Any Record Leader model vice they are a welded vice and indestructible Likewise Fortis do similar quality ones to the Record 110 - 114's and whilst looking similar tend to sell for less than the Record ones. Oh and go for the biggest vice you can get
  13. Your vice will be cast steel not forged, the only forged vices tend to be the blacksmith leg vices (Record did make leg vices so you may be talking about one of them). EDIT: Oh ok there are some German forged and welded vices.
  14. It appears that the name for them in Canada is 'fibreglass scratch brush' ... but they certainly seem cheaper in the UK (obviously shipping would ruin any saving)
  15. Those fibre glass pencils are excellent and very cheap on the likes of eBay where you can also buy refills .... I have to agree about the downside of annoying glass fragments stuck in you though, top tip is not to use it over your lap ......
  16. My 55mph wobble was cured by balancing the wheels, but everyone seems to have a different solution so I can only assume there are many different factors that can cause a wobble at that speed. A quick test to help rule out wheel balancing is to swap your wheels about a bit and see if this affects the severity of the wobble. I recently changed to a new set of wheels and the wobble came back, so being too lazy to get the new ones balanced I swapped them about till the wobble was gone.
  17. Idle curiosity got the better of me recently and as there is still no sign of a datasheet for the main processor in the TD5 speedo (the CDVN2117) I thought I'd take a closer look at it. If nothing else it is a pretty picture, here's a link to download the picture as it's far to big to post on the forum, try zooming in a bit https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B6XKpDGw3BjiTG9EZkktcF9SSmc It's really only for geeks tbh. Looks like it may contain some masked rom so perhaps it's possible to extract some data.
  18. Excellent, mine are long due an overhaul. So no problems on the rust treated parts? Success with rust treatments has been variable in the past .....
  19. The cool thing is that you can remove it and use it as a ground anchor if you forget yours ......
  20. Are they? Section 64 of the C&U regs doesn't seem to say that, I could of course be reading it incorrectly http://www.legislation.gov.uk/uksi/1986/1078/made
  21. I read that as if you do a modification and don't go for an IVA then after 10 years of 'getting away with it' you become exempt. A bit like some of the planning permission rules.
  22. Man are you ruthless! After all that work you did..... I'd still be procrastinating!
