  1. I think eBay is a bit of a gamble, if you put it on with a reserve people assume you want too much so they don't bother, no reserve and it's a risk you may not get what you expect If its feasible to get the most money it needs an mot, ebayers don't bid high on anything risky, with 12 months test 90% of that risk is removed If you don't want to mot it the final selling price could be anything, you need a very accurate description with a lot of supersize pictures
  2. A friend of mine is restoring a 2 door mk II , he's been at it 2 years and it's just reached the paint stage It was 150 miles away so I went to pick it up on the trailer, he was really enthusiastic about it , telling me what great condition it was in When I got there the owner pulled this rusty, knackered rolling shell with a big hole in the rear quarter , one of the front wings was hanging off, it was that bad I went round to where he'd pulled it out of to see if there was another one round there I phoned my mate up and described the piece of carp he was showing me, yeah that's it, that's all minor, it's really good underneath He would probably buy that Mexico
  3. I've just bought a 90 that has what look like the same doors, they're aren't original and I'm not sure if I want to keep them or change them back to the push button wind up window ones Can you buy door cards for those or is that it as they are in the picture
  4. I used to own an Audi A8 4.2 Quattro I worked out over 2 weeks of short trips to work by my wife it was doing 8mpg On the third week it was in Autotrader
  5. That still sounds like less hassle than waiting in all day for them to deliver it
  6. I saw containers being loaded up with new truck parts last week so poked my nose in and asked why I was told they were all obsolete euro 3 parts which couldn't be sold in the EU so they were all being sent to Mexico So much for it being a global problem then, it's only ever been about money, hauliers would use trucks until they were knackered if they could the truck industry is going to be really busy for the next few years because nobody wants the new euro 6 engine so they're all ordering euro 5 while they can It's no wonder why, the euro 6 is heavier, does less mpg and is longer so they're losing space on the trailer The new euro 6 recycles the exhaust gasses 6 times before they get expelled which means they need massive radiators to cool them down In years to come I can see every city having rules like London Designed to relieve us of our cash
  7. If you have access to Costco wholesale they're doing 20% off 4 michelins from 30/10 The 20% is before vat so it's like getting one free, they're also the cheapest I've ever found for Michelin before the discount
  8. The £3.50 price is shop to shop, they'll deliver to a home address but it's dearer It works for me because I'm not waiting about for a courier to collect it They have a scanner at the shop, you print a label, attach it, they scan it and give you a tracking receipt You pay online via PayPal or credit card , the shop probably gets 50p a parcel out of it I'd guess
  9. I once sold a navara for 10k, the guy collected and paid cash but after the bank was closed, I was bricking it all night with 10k in the house I think the easiest way would be to see if both banks use the faster payments system and just use their p.c. to send it over , as long as you remember the card reader
  10. I've just sold a load of junk out of my garage on eBay , while looking for the cheapest way of couriering it I found a service called collect + It's run by dhl , you deliver the parcel to a local shop, nearest to me is an off licence and for £3.50 they collect and deliver to a similar shop near the recipient ,up to 10kg with £50 insurance included, you can buy extra up to £300 Dimensions are 30x30x50cm I'm nothing to do with dhl or yodel as its now called just though it might be useful
  11. Is your 3 year old chassis showing any signs of rusting, almost all panels in the motor industry are E coated now which is paint applied in an dipped electro-static process which is why you see a 10 year old mondeo with no rust on the bodywork, in the 70s a 10 year old car would be 4 tyres, 4 seats and a pile of brown dust I'd think the chassis would be E coated on a new defender unless land rover really are still working in the 1970s If anyone in the north east needs any parts blasting and e coating I've used a company in Hartlepool called overcoat who made rusty suspension parts for a mk 2 escort look like new Nice guys too
  12. guy I know was using a grinder at work, the part he was grinding was in a vice, it only needed 10 seconds grinding so he didn't put any goggles on, that 10 seconds changed his life, a red hot fragment of metal went straight through his eyeball, he lost 90% of his sight in that eye, all he can see now is shape and colour. Bad news One of the reasons I gave up biking was it was 20 minutes before I could get on the bloody thing, it was much more fun when I was 17 when I just pulled a helmet on and got on it, as you get older you learn to realise there are consequences for those lazy moments
  13. If I had the money I'd buy a new 90, if you can get one through a company it'll end up being really cheap because it'll last forever, I had 300,000 miles out of a transit with that 2.4 engine in it. As far as i'm aware there are only a few commercial vehicles that can pull a 3.5T trailer, Defender, Iveco Daily and Daihatsu Fourtrak so it makes it very versatile
  14. No but if VOSA stop you and find it's not roadworthy it'll cost a fortune to get recovered and fixed
  15. The thing that always amazes me is the more expensive the towing car, the faster the speed, a Range Rover towing a massive caravan came past me on the M6 doing 75mph last week, no wonder they end up as matchwood Last summer a disco towing a caravan was in front of me, the van started to sway, the motorway was packed but within 20 seconds she had 1/2 a mile to herself, it got worse and worse as she was going downhill, at one point she was being thrown across 2 lanes and back with the disco on 2 wheels, we'd all virtually stopped by now but she was really lucky and slowed it without crashing. As I drove past they'd stopped on the hard shoulder, she was screaming at the guy in the passenger seat, I bet it was the last time she ever towed anything
  16. You might want to check the law before you start welding, not sure how it applies to Defenders but if a car is registered after 1998 it needs a type approved towbar fitted Towbars and the law European Law now states that all light passenger vehicles registered on or after 1st August 1998 require a type approved towbar tested to EC94/20 and towball with suitable D&S value. This is not retrospective and does not affect any vehicle registered before this date. Other vehicles not subject to type approval are ~ commercial vehicles, car derived vans and motor caravans. Fitment of a non type approved towbar on a vehicle registered on or after 1st August 1998 could result in prosecution and in the event of an accident the vehicles insurance could be invalidated.
  17. How do you get a council to change speed limits, where I live there's a road that has a footpath it's entire length which is a 60mph limit, cars use it as a race track because it's dead straight, on a sunday afternoon I can hear the bikes go down it, 80-90-100 hit the brakes, round the roundabout and then back 1/2 a miles away, similar road, no footpath 30mph I spotted a council official in town when they bought a 20mph limit in, they had a radar gun and were pulling people up and warning them the limit had been dropped. I saw my chance and asked him why this road had such a high limit in the middle of a residential area, his answer was they would only alter the limit if the accident data determined a change was needed, so when one of these 100mph bikes kills someone they might consider changing it. Laws aren't always right Smoking, make cigarettes £8 a pack to put people off and lower the NHS bill, problem is everybody starts smoking knockoff fags that have god knows what in them. Traffic lights on every corner to make the roads safer so people get cheesed off with being stopped every 100m and jump them
  18. I was at a truck bodybuilder a couple of weeks ago, they were building armoured defenders out of 110 truck cabs, looking at what's going on them they must be 5 tonnes fully laden Loads of parts going in the skip too,I did ask but they said no My truck cab roof lining is sagging there were 30 new truck cabs all stacked up but he said they were going back to landrover
  19. The UK is one of the few countries that opted out of allowing the use of tachograph data in speeding prosecutions, as a tachograph is a calibrated instrument it can be used as evidence in court which they do use in other European countries. In the UK it's only used as secondary evidence, if they don't use tachograph data I can't see them using tomtom data here
  20. There's a guy selling the complete rear window on ebay for £88 delivered http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/DEFENDER-TRUCK-CAB-REAR-SLIDING-WINDOW-GENUINE-NEW-/390311270599?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item5ae05d58c7
  21. Thanks for the replies, I've learned to check the N/S mirror before starting it after giving a few pedestrians cancer the first few days I had it.
  22. Whenever I start my 300TDi defender I get a puff of black smoke, it doesn't smoke after this but does it every time regardless of how long it's been stood, 30 seconds, 5 minutes or 5 hours A mechanic said it's normal as they over fuel on start up to get them going and they all do it, is that right Had it MOT'd recently and the tester couldn't believe how low the emissions were
  23. Another thing that annoys me is traffic lights on roundabouts, I came up to one last night 10-30pm, nothing in sight, red light, green light, I get 1/3 the way round, red light, green light, another 1/3 red light, green light, go getting round that roundabout with nothing on it too me about 90 seconds
  24. I think that's nationwide, I love roundabouts, a car comes round taking the third exit but you have no idea that's where they're going because they can't be arsed to indicate, then when the get to the exit they put the left indicator on I DON'T CARE NOW, I've worked out where you're going for myself, it would have been nice to know 20 seconds ago.
