  1. best bit of advice anyone's given thus far
  2. im with NFU too. no complaints. everything declared. they dont sell norwich union products at all either. plus theyre a mutual so any profit they make has to go back to the members, in lower premiums (policy holders. a small part of your first premium makes you an NFU member (think it was about 20-30 quid))
  3. evening gents. did have a quick search but couldnt find a 'definitive' answer. fitted polybushes to my radius arms tonight as the first step of replacing the bushes throughout the vehicle as theyre nigh on all shot all of a sudden. anyway... when doing up eg the radius arm rear nut (chassis mount), do I follow the haynes torque value for rubber bushes (176Nm) or is there a lesser value for polyurethane? I dont particularly fancy crushing them accidentally if i can help it (did it to some deflex, they were like swiss cheese!) and no, i dont particularly want this to be a metalastic vs poly debate thread. I personally had a negative opinion on the orange deflex ones i had because they all collapsed. these ones i have now are nearly all one piece, well priced and feel like quality throughout. plus i dont have a press so it was my only viable choice. Theyre well worth a try in my book, and thus i will.
  4. no, not a chance im afraid
  5. just watch ebay for a 2nd hand mini-hiab (The type the transit tippers from the hire places have on them. should be able to run that off a modest hydro pump
  6. i can now confirm that worked flawlessly. thankyou very much steve!
  7. steve, i tried your bit of software and i still have the date issue when trying to start microcat in vista dskill throws up a message saying it cant change the system date havent tried the java one yet but dont hold out much hope. suggestions? jim edit: have just tried the java method. no joy
  8. maybe i did! but at only 17k old mine sounds rough in neutral ticking over (a shaft bearing aparently) and after a long run down the motorway it goes incredibly hard to shift. not impressed. time to complain to the garage that had it done and give mr ashcroft a pm i think!
  9. thanks again mate could just do with a 200tdi to compare now jim
  10. so im running about 500rpm higher at 30 in 4th than comical engineer does this mean i have a 1.4 transfer box? i dont think i should lol i have a lucarse alternator (not original) on the disco too. rev pulse from it shouldnt be wrong should it? it certainly seems to rev between the right bounds
  11. right, in 4th im at about 2000rpm at 30mph. sorry it's a rubbish figure, its just the only one i can remember from when i was out in it earlier jim
  12. got a feeling the 130 hd clutch is just a different friction plate. everything else is the same
  13. just to throw a spanner in the works. my 200tdi still does it. now i havent had chance to change the manifold gasket yet cos its gonna be hell removing everything to get at it, but i will no doubt find the time to do it anyway but does it only do it on accel or on overrun too? mine has started to do it on overrun as well, which points to lack of lubrication somewhere in an axle or swivel housings or worn ring and pinion, so im gonna have to lube up and see if that makes any difference too jim
  14. Si, was it you having to be shaken vigorously at kirton on sunday 30th then? Jim
  15. i looked at those on ebay too Ryan. i emailed them to ask whether they were stand-off or close fitting because i have air con so dont have much space behind my grille for a close fit one. also waiting, could well be one of those things, but ive heard good things through the grapevine re: the actual product
  16. Rog, pm me a rough price on one of the migs. i have 3 phase here on the farm so im always on the look out. could do with something a bit tastier than my little 105amp mig. oh and the cyntringham bantam oil cooled arc
  17. the effect on the environment of producing a brand new toyota prius, is far greater than the effect of buying and keeping a 200tdi defender or disco on the road for an indefinite amount of time. with the advent of biofuels, this gap widens even more but theyre hardly going to tell you that are they! whatever happened to reduce, reuse, recycle? why buy a new car if one already on the road does the job as well or better. not to mention a lot of people, me included cannot afford to buy a brand new car of any size or type
  18. im gonna join the club too. new years only means another year where ive managed not to achieve anything of note, and the next one looks like it might not be much better either. of course im full of optimism. perhaps that should be a new years resolution if i thought it would last more than 30seconds. and i turn 21 tomorrow... cant say im much looking forward to that either to be honest jim
  19. be aware that the steel ones are very heavy and the aluminium ones are probably half the weight if that in my experience oh and i dont think paddocks are open until wednesday are they? so you'll still have to wait
  20. just wanted to say a big thanks to all at KORC. finally managed to get down there for my first real offroad session today and thoroughly enjoyed it. managed to bonk my passenger side sill in the middle and i thought i was doing so well but nothing major at all, but rock sliders just moved up to very top of the shopping/fabbing list!! got a couple photos, well my mate did, pity most of them are of me. was very impressed with what the disco was able to do, there were a lot of photo opportunities that were missed, oh well, always next time! gonna sack my spotters, flat on there they said! first job of the day, get my mate's stricken hilux out happened to witness this guy overcook it a lot. whoops thankyou again one and all, only sorry i didnt manage to talk to many of you! jim
  21. well i was half right, i didnt realise series landrovers had daft fixtures on them
  22. most people i believe just cut the breather pipe close to the axle, and join it to a length of air hose by those little push fit connectors. I know that's what I'm going to do!
  23. both running 235/70R16, mine on goodyear wranglers, his on general grabbers it's something to the tune of his at 60mph in 5th is maybe just under 2000rpm and mine is well up probably above 2500 will try 4th and see as far as i know they have the right speedo gears, theyre both pretty accurate by sat nav
