  1. I have been thinking about your problem too. And at first I thought as Fridge said, the ignition amp breaking down maybe. However I think, again as had already been said, I would go for water getting into the electrics somewhere. Especially as you have the viscous fan still. Did you blank off your grille before you went into the water, or did it get thrown over the inside of the engine bay?
  2. Welcome. That is a nice looking Range Rover you have there. It always helps if readers know a little more about what car you have. So, what year (sorry that's in the title doh), manual or auto, petrol or diesel, EFI or carbs, and 2.5/3.5/3.9/4.2 etc. Then I am sure others will give you a better answer than I could.
  3. Here is my tale of woe. My Grandad and Dad had always tinkered with cars, mainly servicing and fixing them. My dad was a fitter, so I was always there helping. As a youngster I also was one of those kids that would take things apart, and then put them back together. And I learnt to drive in my Dad's Morris Marina. So,along similar lines to others, my first car was a BL product. Not a mini though.....a 998cc Austin Allegro YVM 341Y Bought as a student for a few hundred pounds. What a heap that was, and slow! That was written of by a little drunk old lady driving into the near side front passenger door and wing and driving off. After the insures paid out, I bought it back, bashed the door out, fitted other new bits from the scrap yard, and drove it until I could afford to trade it in for a G reg Ford escort once I got a job after leaving uni in early '92. Within 12 months I had upgraded to a Ford Direct Cosworth Scorpio, and what a car that was! The scorpio lasted maybe 18 months driving from Manchester to Bradford on my daily commute, and over to Hull to see my then girlfriend before we decided to relocate down to Birmingham where we would marry. Once down in Brum, I decided to change and it was then I bought my first Range Rover Classic. I had always wanted a Range Rover since being very young and seeing them around. The bug was so bad, I had bought a Haynes Range Rover manual as a student, and used to study it way before I had bought one. I think the affinity with Land Rovers started with the local farmer series 2 driving round on his milk round I think. That first RRC was an Ardennes Green 1989 Vogue SE 3.9 auto G892 KOE. Within a short time I had joined the Range Rover Register, and that car went on the 25th anniversary run down to Tower Bridge, as well as a few other things. We also did a few green lane runs, and trips down to Eastnor, being taken on tours in our own cars by Roger Crawthorne. That gave me the off road bug, and I wanted to do more. Now, regrettably, I traded the Range Rover for a 300Tdi Defender 90 hardtop in Ardennes blue. M328XBW. I wonder where they are now? I left the Register, and swapped over to the MROC, and started doing RTV's. That lasted a few years before children came along. The Defender was pretty clean, and I had spent months looking for a good nearly new example. Eventually after seven years I think that was sold. I don't think we have been without a Land Rover product of some sort since that first RRC. After the Blue defender it was, a red Disco 1 3.9 auto ES bought with about 3000 miles on the clock as an ex demo, an imported Disco 2 2001 MY BT51 BTY which was a TD5 5seat ES auto model, then 2 Disco 3's, and then onto my current crop. Another Ardennes Blue 300Tdi defender 90, but a P reg, I think that is one here in the members section. Then the blue RRC that has a thread in the members section, the current Black RRC, a Freelander 2 and the latest pre production P38. Others non LR cars along the way have been, the wife's Metro, 4 mondeo's, an Audi A4, a VW Bora, and my current daily drive Volvo V70. I am that bitten by the LR bug that the first words I said to my first born child were "Land Rover"!
  4. I looked at building a sheet metal folder last year. In the end though I decided to buy one because I need to fold sheet steel over 900mm wide. However I do like your logic! I also have been wishing I had a hydraulic press for a long time, and I thing that I will buy one soon. You will have to post a link to a rebuild thread for the moggie. I am sure we would all be interested to read it.
  5. I am guessing that it is a diesel from the P38 "D" title. Blocked air filter, or problem restricting air into the engine?
  6. Started to misplace my marbles a long long time ago!
  7. Thanks Ralph. There was no need to explain though. I have total trust in the forum moderators.
  8. That would explain why I didn't find it.
  9. No. I have been looking for it for a few days now. I don't trust the forum search.
  10. I remember reading it too, recent ish. I think it was a link to another site. I am thinking to buy a Nanocom soon too, so I would be interested also.
  11. I must admit, that I am starting to think about maybe getting one of the early Evoques used at the launch. This is after driving the wife's Freelander 2 a lot, and actually quite liking it. My daily drive V70 is getting long in the tooth at 160,000 miles, so it will be time to change soon. As I do 25,000+ miles a year a car now needs to be 40+mpg. Evoques now fall into that, so maybe...still not convinced though.
  12. Hope that the surgery goes well, and wish you a speedy recovery Jeff. Always enjoy reading your posts.....
  13. The flex plates break on the 3.9's too, so it is not just related to more power or torque. Maybe it's just a case of fitting a new plate that isn't fatigued when you do the swap for peace of mind.
  14. Good luck with the sale and hope you get what you want for it. Good luck with the rest also.
  15. Assuming that you have a Classic, it is quite straight forward really. Remove the carpet and other trim from the area. Tie and wiring out of the way. Disconnect the battery. Clean up the rotten area with a wire brush on an angle grinder to help find the edge of good metal. Then decide on where to cut. Cut back to good sound steel with a cutting disc. Make a cardboard template, transfer to new steel. Bend up appropriately and then weld it in, seam weld all round. Tidy up the welds if required. Undercoat. Seam seal, Top coat and underseal. Then put everything back, and hey presto. Job done.
  16. Your quoted amount is similar to one I have just had for similar. Another P38 from Leighton Buzzard to Brum.
  17. If it is speed related, what about the speed sensor? Maybe? Can't think why else 75mph should be a magic number that it stops working at. Or front right reluctor?
  18. Absolutely save it as said above. Or if you don't have the time or inclination sell it on as it is to someone who does.
  19. I have just spent the afternoon fitting a set of roof rails to our '07 Freelander 2. It was all going so well! I had watched videos on YouTube, and the instructions were working well. Then I tried to fit the cross bar, another hour and a half later, it's done. In the end I found it easy to assemble the cross bar and rails off the car, then put it all into place. Those cap head bolts that hold the cross bar in place are so difficult to access it's a joke. Also the instructions didn't actually say which way round the cross bar went, so first time the rails were about 15mm off the fixing holes. It all must have been on and off 4 times in the end! And it's hot out there this afternoon.
  20. When I cleaned the gearbox on my last 90, I took the transmission tunnel out, and cleaned it from above. Access was better then too.
  21. Just remember to take ALL those rags out when you put it back together, and yes I forgot one...didn't do any harm luckily.
  22. You are not having much luck lately Jeff. Keep smiling, .
