  1. Do you know, I was thinking that myself after I posted my reply above in the brief time I had at lunch whilst going back to work.
  2. All the time! Especially trying to undo old original brake pipes, more often than not I have to cut them off and make new ones.
  3. Sounds like it. If you get a spare they are pretty easy to swap over.
  4. Fuses A2 and A8 according to my workshop manual for a 1992 model year. Should be 10A fuses. That's the fuse box on the dash. The headlamp relay is under the steering column.
  5. What about the switch itself or wiring, or even fuse? Just wondering...
  6. On my last RRC it came with Khumo Road Venture AT's in a 205/80/R16. They did seem to be quite inexpensive too, and I was going to put a new set onto my current one when I get the wheels refubished. I was very impressed with them all round. Excellent in the snow, and I never had an issue with them in the wet or offroad. They also showed not a lot of wear after the 25,000 miles I did in it.
  7. That bad eh? Hopefully your whine will be gone.
  8. I assume that you are talking about the steel inner panels such as inner wings, sills, floors and rear body frame etc rather than the outer alloy panels? I am by no means an expert on 2 doors as I have never had one. However, I think that the bits from YRM will fit or certainly be close. I know that Task on here used YRM when he did his CSK. http://forums.lr4x4.com/index.php?showtopic=65865&page=1 Not sure about the foreign ones. I think a lot will be the same, apart from the obvious LHD/RHD.
  9. Dragging this thread back up. I had forgotten that I posted this back in 2011. I have been having the same thoughts again, just on my current RRC rebuild. Before i posted a new thread I thought I would do a quick Google to and up pops this thread! I still can't understand why Landrover do not mention to put new Locite on the caliper bolts when reassembling, but do on other bolts. Whereas the early ones had a lock tab to be bent over. They don't even say to use new bolts like they do on some later things, which would then come with thread lock on.
  10. Another one for one wheel up. I use both two spanners and the propshaft nut tool. Depends how well the propshaft tool fits on.
  11. The D4 is a bit like the D3 and RRS as it is big and heavy. I would pay close attention to the suspension wearing out (bushes, shocks and air struts) as well as the brake discs and pads. The ball joints on the lower arms at the front too. Then also check for the gearbox slipping if it's an auto under load and diff noise or whine. And the torque converter causing the engine speed to fluctuate with a constant throttle at a level load. The rear propshaft centre carrier bush and bearing wear out too. Then the usual make sure everything works. And just because it has a full service history doesn't mean it has actually been serviced well or looked after. If you don't know what you are looking for yourself pay someone to check it for you.
  12. Now now, there is no need to be sizeist. I'm 5' 10" actually.
  13. My first job is to get the current project finished and the garage sorted. Hopefully I will then have some more space. The intention is to get that done by the end of the year, and then......... My dad was a fitter for a long standing family run firm (not our family) and his brother was a machinist for the same firm. Sadly my uncle has now passed away, but there is a font of knowledge to learn from out there. It's great that these people now have things like Youtube to pass their skills on. I'm even tempted to not do "the car stuff" and just make swarf. Sounds good.
  14. I have given up watching TV at the moment as it's so rubbish. Instead I find that I watch videos on YouTube. In particular I have come across a chap in the USA called Keith Fenner who has a channel with a lot of videos on his job making and fixing stuff. Mainly it's using his old lathe and milling machine, with a lot of torch and TIG welding or brazing thrown in. Makes me want a lathe and a mill, as well as learning how to TIG. Now I need a bigger garage, or workshop!
  15. All factory 4.6 V8's are cross bolted, so that one you are looking at will be.
  16. The 3.9 in tank fuel pump will be fine with the 4.6 I should think. The 3.9 had a throttle position sensor, but it was not in the pedal box, it is screwed onto the side of the butterfly itself. I think the Gems is similar. I think the rad and air con compressor will be OK. Hopefully others will confirm what I have said already.
  17. Well done on saving an Mpi and especially a 200 series one! I used to see one visit a neighbour, but haven't seen it for a out a year now. The CVC register eh, I am a member also and am going to some of the shows this year with my Sport.
  18. Both of those reds are on the 1982 colour chart, sorry that is no help really.
  19. My favourite Defender wheel is the Wolf steel rim. I do quite like the Castors too though. I thought they looked Ok on the Disco. They were quite easy to clean too, not like other wheels I have hadon Land Rovers.
  20. Castor type. I had a Discovery 1 ex-demo that had them on.
  21. Nice. Saw you post the pictures on FB. The pictures are much clearer on here! I am sorry, but I can understand the NHS staff laughing at you, I would have too! Heal soon, and hope it doesn't throb too much.
  22. That's great. Well done. A good find. Unfortunately neither of my remotes work, so I suspect my ecu is at fault.
