  1. on a 300 it is just behind the battery somewhere bolted to a little bracket IIRC, probably the same on a 200tdi?
  2. Well they will won't they, after reading this: Here After all they are really interested in the health of the environment, and it definitely isn't just a bunch of potty left wing vegetarians jumping on a bandwagon to ban something they don't like - is it?
  3. Yep you are right actually - its the do gooders that decide whether or not minorities ought to be offended - whether or not they actually ARE doesn't matter
  4. On the radio news this morning.... Apparently many British employers are banning Christmas decorations "in case it offends people of other faiths"..... FFS what next
  5. Pack your PC with TNT especially all around the hard drive and then take it to some heathland and detonate it. That should get the f***er out Nasty - I haven't used msn for a while and will continue not to do so! Dont suppose this is any help? http://www.happy-messaging.com/messenger/virus/
  6. Easier to fix but depends if you are after ultimate strength or not? Introducing a new (weaker) weakest point is not progress in that respect
  7. The old chestnut 235/85R16 onto 5.5" rims again Yes they will fit and yes they will be fine, no you are not supposed to (minimum rim size for 235/85R16 is supposed to be 6in wide) and therefore your insurers might find it a convenient excuse at some point in the future if something happens. The other thing to bear in mind is that the old rims are tube type which means you MUST fit a tube as there is no retaining hump to hold the tubeless bead on, and you can have problems with some tubeless tyres chafing the inner tubes through and causing "phantom punctures". Sometimes BFGs do this and sometimes they don't. If you want MT's your best bet would be something like General Super All Grip crossplies which are one of the few tube type tyres you can still buy. I'd use that as an excuse to get new rims as well if it were me
  8. Why don't you ask Ashcrofts regarding 1 & 2 as they do everything required and maybe would fit the lot too?
  9. Does it cook any unwanted intruders?
  10. Yep - but it's being built at the Jag plant so hopefully reliability will be Halewood not Solihull Jag do very well in the JD Power surveys Must say that the 2 early cars we had here with Autocar seemed to be fairly well screwed together IMHO
  11. yes you are correct all posts will tell you current number, not the number of posts when you made that post if you look at the very first post of mine at the bottom of the Discovery forum you will see 19th thread ever on LR4x4
  12. The worst thing that can happen is that the bolt seizes inside the steel inner part of the bush, which then breaks away from the rubber of the bush and spins freely inside it. This is a certifiable B****** to get out!!
  13. As Trev said, I think what you need to do is establish a "typical" load and if that includes 2 people and a full tank of fuel, six big toolboxes four jerricans and a trolley jack, then include that. I think if you get stopped then it will be the plated weights that will be used, so regardless of whether the vehicles and trailers are modified or not, if the plate says the vehicle is maximum 3050kg (for a 110) thats what they will expect.
  14. There's even one for Bathtub in the background The one with "eff" written on it
  15. IIRC the Salisbury is an RD20 and the other an RD56. Or maybe the other way round.
  16. Rather than trying to drain any out, dropping the bung and ending up with oil cascading through your hair, an easier alternative if you DO want to drain a bit out would be to remove the oil filter, drain the oil out of it and stick it back on...
  17. Unless you have too much time on your hands (and you know it will take longer than you think ) I'd say if it ain't broke don't fix it ... a NATO is squaddie proof and if attached to a solid enough x-member will never break, and how often do you get hung up by it? It also offers rear protection in case of errant Mitsubishis straying too close on the road if you were feeling creative you could design a novel quick-release system so you can bung on a NATO, ball hitch, pin and jaw, sky hook or whatever takes your fancy? I'd stick with that in the middle and a couple of built in eyes in line with each chassis member for whatever. And why not incorporate some sort of guide/pulley system in the end of the crossmember to feed the rear winch rope out of, so you can winch the back end sideways without having to worry about snagging the rope?
  18. 5mm over the high mark will cause no problem, 5cm would be something to worry about and 5 inches might well cause engine consternation
  19. I have watched people do it by feel, check what the backlash feels like before you start and aim for the same when it is all back together. Generally the idea seems to be to aim for an amount of backlash that is as small as it can be, but so you can still "just" feel backlash, if you see what I mean, and then rotate the diff quite a few times to check there are no tight spots. I have been wondering about trying to re-set the diffs in my 90 on the basis that they are clanky slack cr*p things!
  20. If the reservoir was unpressurized £££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££ Towed a Discovery Tdi auto in to work the other day. The bloke had checked the radiator header tank for some reason while he was away, and dropped the cap somewhere into the engine bay. Couldn't find it so stuffed a rag in the hole and drove home. Well nearly. Rad boiled, engine wrecked, new head etc. in the process of being fitted. And that was on a Tdi which generates MUCH less heat so the effect with a V8 would be magnified.... You would need to make sure the pressure relief valve in the cap is the same as whatever you are using now, that is the main thing. Other than that don't see a problem - I'm pretty sure my old Discovery 3.9 had the same plastic reservoir. Make sure you get the later type reservoir if you can as the old black plastic ones were prone to splitting round the seam which also has the ££££££££££££££££ effect if not noticed.
  21. PM Western he might be able to get them for you, normally has the part numbers for everything else I don't have the parts book handy but I seem to remember from looking at them a couple of years ago that the selection of different numbers is somewhat confusing. You could also try Ashcroft Transmissions to supply new hoses?
  22. I heard something the other day which I thought was scary, apparently in some of the shallowest corners of the gene pool it is regarded as some sort of "status symbol"! Surely not the intention
