  1. Also, they had it already from the P5, and what other engine would you put in an RRC? The 6 cylinder? Probably would have compromised interior space or approach too much, and weighs about twice as much. The V8 was a great choice.
  2. 4th is straight through, so if noisy it will be the layshaft, if there's no oil in it won't sound great either! That said, a series box is never really quite IMHO....
  3. And supercharged V8 Jags used for pooling to the shops. Or indeed using LGT for getting groceries in, like I did this evening.
  4. Reading more elsewhere, the decision was based in part on the range-extender version, which was a small battery, small turbo petrol engine to charge the battery -legislation was unclear meaning that there may have been no way to sell it in the EU. If unable to make both EV and RE version it wasn't worth it.
  5. Didn't get them off in the end, perhaps next weekend, or the next(!)
  6. I expect to have about 4 rows of lights, plus walls.
  7. A double garage is only good for one car if you want to work on it. I did write a reply to all this but seems to have got lost in the ether, but I am going through similar process, except I am building mine now... I keep swinging from having most things mobile to having the workbench made of tool cabinets, but actually you end up working on the car, which is the other side of the space, plus then I want to work outside at times.... It gets complex. You can DIY fit an electric roller shutter door for less than 1K, insulated etc, I'll be doing this for mine, they aren't difficult, just need more than one bod. Lighting will be low profile LED battens lamps, fewer shadows to worry about unlike spots, and they are only ~20mm tall so don't get in the way. I'll be putting lamps on the wall as well.
  8. vs a 288 quid recore charge I think I'd agree with you Daan.
  9. No direct experience, but this sort of thing: https://www.performancesiliconehoses.com/classic-look-hoses-9-c.asp
  10. You can get black ones, and I think I did see some satin black versions... Which look more like rubber.
  11. They'll be more than up to it, there's not much vacuum on the inlet, the air filter is supposed to be free flowing.
  12. Well, challenge accepted and I passed, there's an all black on in the village and frankly I think it looks ridiculous. But it's all very subjective, of course.
  13. I fitted Ashcroft probably 5K ago, will have them off at the weekend so will give an update on their condition.
  14. The problem I think you will find is that it is so varied, for example some lanes have width restriction, but how wide is it? Suitable for 'high clearance 4x4s', what does that mean? You could end up explaining an awful lot in any legend you have, but would need careful thought to get it right, but I suppose you are part way down this route.
  15. Agreed, off the shelf stuff is horrid, as I am sure @ThreePointFive will corroborate. If you want a REALLY nice one, try a motorsport specialist with decades of experience, they will be able to make what you want. Longlife can be good, but varies by garage in my experience.
  16. Seriously though, the loom for the engine is made, so you just have to wire up 3-4 relays, power and ground, and connect the right wire at the ignition switch -I mean how hard can it be
  17. Aka he's already got the engine in and fired it up.
  18. To follow up on this, I did get a tube of dielectric grease, it has been great, apart from a bit messy when applying, but no further problems at all.
