  1. Happy New Year All A friends brother has just got a 2010 Land Rover so for his birthday they are thinking of getting him an off road driving experience/training. I think he would want to use his own vehicle. I have recommended 4x4 Adventures James Trembath as know him, and the drive round days are a good day out but not sure he is at that level yet. Not sure if James does one to one tuition or not. It is always good to know of others so lets have a list of good places and trainers please. He is based in portsmouth for work or in east yorkshire but i'm sure he will travel for a good day. Not had any training for years, so am not sure where to start. Many Thanks Jon
  2. If you get powder coating done properly, then you have a very good durable finsh which resists impacts. 4muddyfeet.com use it a lot and I have been very impressed with the results. Contact them and ask who they use. Jon
  3. I know this isn't the one you were looking for but, is this your old one?? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Land-rover-freelander-2001-1-8-Comp-safari-rally-offroad-offroader-/230858487930?pt=Automobiles_UK&hash=item35c03cf87a&_uhb=1#ht_1244wt_1186 Jon
  4. Yer I know this and have done with appropriate switches in previous Land Rovers. But am looking to put better reverse lamps on the girlfriends work Hilux as can only see out of side mirrors and when reversing into gate ways farm etc in the winter it would be better for her to see what she is reversing into. Hence I want this to be easily fitted and removed as her pick up may be changed soon and I wouldn't get much notice to take bits off it. Jon
  5. Guessing these LED worklamps don't use much power do they?? Just I would like to stick one on a work truck for reversing but dont want the hassle of wiring it all in seperately so could I just wire it into the existing wiring without any issues due to the low current draw. If it was my own truck I would do things properly but am unsure how long we will have this truck for before it gets changed. Any thoughts much appreciated
  6. Hi Guys Girlfriends dad has a 2004 disco 2 td5 which has 200k miles on so is a little worn but a good vehicle. It has been suffering from a lack of power and excessive fuel consumption. He lives in Caernarfon but has tried many garages and has got no where and there doesnt seem to be a decent land rover garage that can deal with it . I believe it has had a fuel pressure regulator on the back of the head. Injector wiring, turbo hoses, throttle pedal. So has anyone got any reviews of garages that deal with land rovers in north wales for dealing with TD5 engine troubles. He is willing to travel to get it sorted and looking at High peak 4x4 and Rhosendale land rover. Has any one got any feedback on any of these. The other option is to cut his losses and get shot of it and buy another. But defender 110 he has thought about are expensive and the 300tdi have mega mileage on them. Any help much appreciated Thanks Jon
  7. Ah thats the jobbie! I will look into getting one of those then thanks guys!
  8. Hi Guys not strictly Land rover related but could be useful in one. In my job I travel a lot, but in a boring company car which of course I am not allowed to modify and do not to wish to spend money on. Now I require a fridge for drinks and lunch in the summer. However the 12v socket in my car remains live even when the ignition is off. Now this isn't a problem most the time as hop in and out of the car regularly running the engine. But other times I can leave the car for hours. Knowing me I will forget to switch the fridge off and come back to a car in a field with a flat battery and no way of getting it going. So I need it to cut out and leave enough back up for starting. So is there a plug in 12v socket which extension lead with a voltage sensing relay which I can just plug in with out modification to the car. Or a fridge which will cut out automatically. I am looking for a smallish fridge but big enough to chill some food on weekends away. Any Suggestions Cheers Jon
  9. I have a series 2 gearbox and a rover v8 with adpator plate for the conversion. Now it all bolts together fine as have had it in today to sort the engine mounts out but the clutch wont work. The clutch on the engine i'm told is a HD series clutch but the release bearing etc on my gearbox is different to the fork type which the clutch on the engine is like. So i think it will be a lot of work to change the way the release arm works on the gearbox. So am planning on just using the old clutch from the 4cyl which looks a lot different. Is there any reason why this wont work?? The flywheel is ready tapped for a series clutch apparently Cheers Jon
  10. Ok to open a tin of worms it says, your ok on a new chassis. So technically if someone produced a chassis of the right length for a bobtail then you could use the normal registration. I know if defeats the point of using a rotten old discovery. Or could someone technically start a business "building new chassis's" and use those (i.e. clean and paint them up or galvanise them when the right length so they look like new) as what is there to say whether a chassis is new or not in the DVLA's eyes. Jon
  11. Right have orders engine mounts from Richards Chassis's, spoke to a chap on the phone who was most helpful and were cheaper than I thought it would turn out as well at £20. So they should be here in time for the weekend. So hopefully a productive weekend will ensue. Thanks Jon
  12. Also has anyone one got pictures of how they modified the bulkhead to fit?? Thanks Jon
  13. Hi guys A mate is helping me put my engine in this weekend hopefully, but I am missing the chassis mounts that come off the donor vehicle. So i currently have the series 4cyl chassis mounts and the standard rover V8 mount which are on the engine. Does anyone have picture and measurements of the mount so I can make some up to suit. or does anyone have some lying around they wish to off load quickly! I have all the gearbox adapter etc so just need the mounts now. Cheers Jon
  14. Well this was found a while ago. From what I have been told by my friend. I believe it was in a warehouse in Liverpool docks. It had been heavily off roaded, body work scratched, a few dents, steering bars bent as well. It also had a big set of chunky tyres on it apparently. Plus the plates had been changed so looked like they were ringing a whole load of vehicles. Not sure if the chassis number had been changed or not at the moment
  15. A friend of a friend has had his pride and joy stolen from Warrington. My friend is especially annoyed as he spent a lot of time on it welding the chassis up and putting a disco 200tdi into it within the last few months. Please keep an aye out Jon
  16. Hmmm yer think it will be easier to arrange a pallet courier to pick it up, to save the hassle and the damage to the company vehicle to be honest, unless my mate can pop it on his trailer. Cheers for the help and good point made on the safety side of things. Jon
  17. Hi all I am aiming to pick up a rover V8 from a forum member, but having sold my discovery I only have an audi A3 hatchback to pick it up in, now loading should be ok as he has said he has an engine crane and it should fit if I am careful. However the problem I have is that when I get back to Newport shropshire, I only have a mate with a telly handler. and risk takign the roof off the company car! So any suggestions or any help appreciated, has anyone got a engine crane I can borrow close to me TF10 Cheers Jon
  18. Ahhh i was going to bid on that but was waiting to see what I needed firat but will hopefully have most bits from the reckless engineer, when he is is back.
  19. Right lots of options and things to think about but the reckless engineers offer sounds good to save me trawling the country for bits so will drop him a pm soon
  20. Right have decided to do a proper rebuild of my series, so am stripping it down to the chassis and building it up again, but this time with a V8. So can anyone point me in the direction of some threads showing how it is done. I am hopefully getting a modified bulkhead from a fellow forum member. But mating to the gearbox, what is needed? I have seen a few kits on ebay and the likes with supposed adaptors and engine mounts but want to check I get the right thing and so require the crank to be cut down which I would prefer not to do. All responses and pictures appreciated. Cheers Jon
  21. Uni in shropshire? Sounds like harper adams to me. I have just finished there but am still living in newport so might see you around at somepoint. Good luck with the rebuild, it doesn't look too bad, just rechassis and bend the pannels back as you are bound to bend them again if you off road it for long enough. Jon
  22. I would recommend the 4muddyfeet ones as they are very well built and you will get good customer service from them too! The coating they use is very tough too. Cheers Jon
  23. Yep hitched up an articualated fuel tanker this winter in the snow, so what is that about 38tons?? Lots of wheel spin in the snow but was enough to get it going up the hill, that got a lot of funny looks from people but the truck driver was very happy as he could get home for christmas! No pictures though as I was busy driving! Jon
  24. Easy solution would be bolt something like a van vault at the front of the tub by the bulkhead. But it probably isn't the most space efficient idea, but you can fit a lot of stuff inside them. Jon
