  1. Darthdicky is currently on walkabout! If anyone is interested currently in New zealand the last I heard. He left last april and not sure when we are expecting him back! He travelled overland from London to Darwin, that part of the journey can be found here http://richwatson.blogspot.com/ but the rest he hasn't blogged yet I dont think. Sorry for the off topic mike. But basically you will want a PTO guard or to rotate the PTO clockwise. Normal route, mounts to the underside of the transfer box and then onto the sump. The shaft go to the block side of the exhaust. Then carry forward to another mount on the front cross member. 4 uj's in total I think and 3 bearings and 1 sliding joint. I will try and dig out some pictures for you. But Les Brocks example maybe better for you as he clocked the PTO and recessed the winch. Ok can't find any pictures on my computer, think they ae all at home so wont be able to acess them. But there are 2 flaws with it that I can remember. The centre section of the exhaust is in the way so was removed and a straight through put on and the steering damper need to be dropped down so it clears the shaft, as shown in this picture. But is more exposed and hence I bent it and it snapped off, so not running without a steering damper till I get round to fixing it. And this may help slightly Cheers Jon
  2. The 90 does sound like it is in good condition, but I would ideally want a 200tdi or 300tdi, as going from your disco to a worn 2.5na will be a bit of a slow down and you will probably regret letting the disco go. Jon
  3. I used the existing hose from my 2,5 petrol engine. This connected upto the disco rad fine. There is a bit of a biend in the hose but no problems so far and has been like that 18 months or so. Jon
  4. Friend of mine has the carling switches inside and outside. The ones outside are bitch switches mounted on the front grill and just below the back door, so regularly recieve a dunking and continue to work well. Jon
  5. Cheers I have had a look at various websites now and found that there are two different types. I need the one with the metal base. I will go back and change it tomorrow. Cheers Jon
  6. I have a 200tdi discovery engine in my defender and have finally got round to mounting the correct air box. However I have just got a replacement air filter element and its different to the previous one. The one it came with has a black metal base which forms the end of the air canister when fitted. The new one is just the internal element no end piece. Is the end piece meant to come off and be placed on the new one, or have the motor factors given me the wrong one and I need a different part number. I know i could just go back and ask but I dont want to look too stupid if the piece is interchangable but just jammed on. Cheers Jon
  7. Check the timing. My timing had moved and it was causing lots of bluey white smoke on start up as it was obviously fueling at the wrong time. Jon
  8. White smoke is water i think you will find. So either contaminated fuel. try draining the filter bowl see if water comes out. Or it could be the head gasket letting water into the combustion chamber. If you are buying this make sure you search for the disco buyers guide as there can be a lot of hidden nasties, i.e. rust traps to look out for. Jon
  9. Well for the price, i think you can do a lot with all the after market parts avaliable. Could put a LRX grill on a normal 90 and have a nice hood and cage fitted. My effort for the summer cost me probably less than 1% of what a SVX would cost me, fair enough I had the land rover already, but that is the beauty of them as they are so changerable, could probably fit some scooby seats and it would look similar. Fair enough it wouldn't be prestige as the 60th edition but if its too ice it wont be used for what its meant for, incase it gets damaged or stolen, You don't see that many 50th version on the off road scene Jon
  10. Check the timing, as mine had problems when the timing was out. Poor fuel economy, smoke as the timing had had moved. May be worth changing the cam belt if you don't know the history of it. Jon
  11. What pressures are you running in them John?? Mine were acquire from the same source I think and have similar wear patterns. However my old set which I had from new had an even wear pattern all over and they were ate 30 - 32psi when on road. Jon
  12. Ah someone had mentioned you had disappead down south. The job sounds right up your street playing with cars and design. Afraid i don't know anything about coventry but hope its going well, and will see you in liverpool sometime. Jon
  13. I don't mind having the extra hours lie in and meet at 11 I just didn't want to miss out on anything. If everyone is ok with 11 then that is fine with me it was just that there was to possible times posted up. Cheers Jon
  14. Ok so if i turn up at 10 tomorrow in the car park will there be anyone there, or will I have to wait an hour for the others to arrive. I will be in a Green 90 soft top. Jon
  15. Ok so sunday sounds a plan, if we all meet up and then we can split into groups depending on the numbers that turn up. Cheers Jon
  16. Not wanting to butt into much or take over, but if there is enough people, then 2 groups would be much more advisible so there are not too many trucks in convoy, keep the greenies happy. I am about either day, saturday is supposed to be sunny, thunderstorms due sometime sunday apparently. So either sounds fun. I have maps of the area, and will hopefully be running memory map on the laptop. I will check this after i get back from the pub tonight to see what the concenious of opinion is. Cheers Jon
  17. Hi guys what day and time are people thinking of meeting? As I am interested in coming over, i haven't been to the punch bowl for about 2years now. There are some other good lanes round there too. Cheers Jon
  18. Will take some pictures tomorrow as I did it this summer and think it looks brilliant, but a full soft top for longer trips would be better and less draughty. Jon
  19. Hi James As this event is nice and local, do you need anymore marshals or any other help, as I am probably free on friday if you want help setting punches. If not is it ok to come and take photos on the saturday. Cheers Jon
  20. You would think they could make good use of all that space under the bonnet, by putting a big V12 in it or something, or a rolls royce merlin endine. Jon
  21. I have a mantec one, had it 6 or so years and it has been good, the coating is pealing slightly now but thats to be expected. It is good, but the down falls i found are, when a nato hook is fitted and 33" tyre, the nato had to be rotated or the door will not shut. With a nato hook on the back, I had a really good departure angle which means when going down a very steep bank the spare grounded out bending the wheel carrier, but to show how well is is built, it still works really well and the back door glass didnt pop out, so i haven't bothered straighting it incase i do pop the glass out. Would probably buy another if i needed to, but would seriously look at bearmach too. Jon

  23. I know it is a shame when you are let down by a supplier. But i recently ordered all the bits for changing the clutch on mine, and paid extra for fast delivery and it all came very quickly and well packaged at a good price. So someone must be working hard, and another member of staff leeting the side down. Jon
  24. I am guessing this is at Slindon. What time does it start on either of the days. Cheers Jon
  25. Having bikini topped mine this summer it looks so much better, and you can do it to any 90 for about £250 using new parts, however it is not as practical as it was before, so now have lockable storage in the back, and is great fun in the sun! Jon
