  1. Sorry for the off topic. Ah someone with a workshop that could come in very useful... Well if your up to anything in the area let me know. You might see me about in a maroon coloured disco with snorkel and tyres. I have been to a few sites with harper adams off road club, bala and silverdale with them and will probably go to buildwas when I have time. Jon
  2. I live in market drayton, so almost staffordshire really. But go to harper adams uni which is in Newport close to telford. Jon
  3. Hi I have just moved to shropshire in the newport area and haven't really been able to find many lanes, have you got any suggestions of areas with many lanes or where to find out about approved rights of way. Thanks Jon
  4. Dave that would be excellent! Yes please will send you a PM and make a donation to the forum too. Cheers Jon
  5. That sounds promising so I will need a 5/8" to 1/8" adapater piece then hopefully. Habving been running with out a temperature gauge for quite a while now but do worry at times. Cheers Jon
  6. I currently have a 200tdi in my 300tdi discovery and surprise surprise the temperature gauge does not work. The 300tdi sender smaller and so will not simply just screw in. So I would like to what size/thread the 300tdi sender is and what size the 200tdi need so I can look for an adapter or reducer/enlarger to fit a 300tdi sender into a 200 block. Many thanks Jon
  7. Hahhahahaha sorry it is new years eve isn't it and not april fools day??? Yes as above it is not worth spending money on, so put a 200tdi into it. The 2.5td was a turbo charged version of what you have and is unreliable and over stressed. Jon
  8. Yer mine has dropped sionce it has been on a set of nobbley tires. But also found a fuel leak as one of the injector spill pipes had split. Mine also needs a good service as seems a bit sluggish at the moment. Jon
  9. It's a pain in the arse and has taken me ages a few times before, i struggled last time and got really fed up with it, was about to give up then changed gear or moved the gear selector and she slid straight home, job done. It may help, it may not but it's worth a try. Jon
  10. I have just put 235/85/r16 on mine on modulars, 1" lift on the rear and standard sagging at the front, have done the camel cut on the back, and had to crop the rear edge of the front arch. They still need more cutting as haven't tried to flex it off road yet. But they do look good.
  11. That sounds good then I will probably go for the saharas unless anyone has any great reviews on the cheaper kingpin tyres?? CHeers Jon
  12. Just had the same with mine and cleaned it out, great big jelly like lumps in it. Must be the cold weather causing all the carp to go harder. Mine was limited to 40mph and cutting out. All ok again now. Jon
  13. I am in the market for a set of wheels and tyres for my TDI disco. I am a BFG man normally but can't justify the price of them for the millage I do. So am looking at Kingpin and Insas. Either the BFG mud terrain copies or the Insa saharas. Anyone got any recommendations on them, kingpins do see quite a bit cheaper. I do fancy a set if insa turbo special tracks but know I will get bored of swapping them over and end up wearing them out on the road. Use will be pay and play days and greenlanes as well as my everyday truck. Cheers Jon
  14. Nice little write up there. ON my defender I put in a boost gauge where you originally put it but haven't had any problems up until now, but have only adjusted the off boost fuelling on it. Haven't played with my disco yet but if I do fit one then I like the idea of the banjo bolt in the inlet manifold. I think it should woek with the 200tdi as this has an easier to access bolt half way along the inlet. Jon
  15. When I brought my discovery I was told the water pump was leaking and a replacement came with it. The replacement is a britpart item. Looking at it there is a hole in the bottom of the pump which looks like it should have a grub screw in it?? The old pump on there is the same but this is where the leak seems to be coming from. My question is should it have a open hole in the bottom? surely mud and stuff could get in if there is a hole there?? The disco I have is a 300tdi with a 200tdi lump in it. Now this means the temperature guage isn't working at the moment. I brought a 300tdi sender but this is too small and does not fill the whole where the 200tdi sender is. So is there anyway senders which will match my guage and fit the 200tdi block, or will I have to run a seperate gauge?? Cheers Jon
  16. The best one I have seen was Tango mans bobtail Range rover. This was 5 door, but had the pickup bay going from behind the rear seats. With the rear doors chopped down. I can't find any pictures of it as it was then turned into a tray back and has changed hands a few times I think. Jon Edit: Actually have a look here http://www.southdown4x4.co.uk/RaisedAirIntake.htm at the bottom of the page
  17. Any room for LPG tanks as it's a chassis cab?? Then you will have plenty of power just as cheap as a diesel?? Jon
  18. Would also like to know this as the metal fittings in mine have deteriorated and cracked where the bulb holder sits and the earth wire attaches. Cheers Jon
  19. Yes straps are tested but also a lot are meant for lifting and hence have no give in them. Making recoveries very jerky and hence I should think more damaging to a vehicle, hence why never using chains for recovery. Yer Arbil recovery stop might give the best of both worlds. But then theirs seme to be either a tree strop or a kinetic recover strop. And I am not a fan of kinetic recoveries, as you know the strength of your own tow point but new so sure of the other person who you are helping out. Jon
  20. Well I went for a 5m rope in the end. which states 'Min break load of the rope is 12,000kgs before splicing'. So will see what that holds upto. I have various tree strops but prefer rope with a bit of give for towing people out. Jon
  21. I am in the market for a new recovery rope. Dad managed to trash the last one by towing a car on road and letting it drag. Last time I had a 4m rope and a 2m bridle from David Bowyer. This seemed to do the job well as had a bit of stetch to it but was not a kinetic. Any recommendations on where to buy from. Seen quite a few on ebay. I couldn't find much info on david bowyers site. Cheers Jon
  22. Have used the search function and found the answer now. Should have done to begin with really. Looks like i will be a discovery owner soon then!
  23. BMW 3 series And possibly a discovery soon, but can only afford one on the road at a time so one will be moth balled for a while.
  24. Erm not entirely sure. Reverse doesn't seem very far over to the left, like it should be, so when going for 1st you get reverse. 5th is very far over to the right, so it seems like the gates need moving over if that makes any sense?? Cheers Jon
  25. Been to look at a discovery I am thinking of buying. All seems ok, only gripe is the gear box is notchy, and when going for 1st your end up in reverse. Like wise trying to locate the other gears as to where they should be. So can this be adjusted relatively easily with the gearbox in situ?? Answers very much appreciated asap as need to tell the guy whether I want it or not. Jon
