  1. So is the Defender engine for sale with all associated bits? or are you swapping all the parts over?? Would possible be interested in the defender engine bits if they are up for grabs. Jon
  2. Anymore for anymore??? Help that is. This is one bit which is holding my current project back at the moment. So does anyone else have any info?? or a parts catalogue or anything with pictures images or part numbers. Or even a picture of their own setup Thanks in advance Jon
  3. Thanks for the offer but I have got a double pulley on the bottom, a tensioner, water pump and alternator. If you could have a look for the bracket that would be great! or if anyone else does that would be great! Thanks Jon
  4. Posted in here as it could apply to Series, Range Rover Discovery or Defender. I have put what I believe is a rover SD1 engine in my Series 3, however the engine came with a home made alternator bracket which I couldn't get to line up. Could anyone help in letting me know which bracket or more importantly which part numbers I need to get the right mount. It could either go top right as you look at the engine or top left. But am unsure if the run of the belt would interfere with the bottom rad hose if it was top right. I have attached pictures to help describe what I mean. I will also need a belt of the right size and to be able to tension it. Nice simple set up as only need water pump, alternator and main pulley, then possibly and tensioner if required. I know the front of V8's can vary a lot with water pumps etc. Any help much appreciated! or if anyone has the right parts kicking about I would be interested in them! Thanks Jon
  5. There are a few pictures of the bulkhead mods on my build thread which may help you http://forums.lr4x4.com/index.php?showtopic=69582
  6. With the way defender prices are going if might be worth saving to be fair. If you were to buy a galv chassis and put that under it. How many original parts are needed to keep the ID? Say that most of it is knackered engine axles etc. Could you swap these out for good replacements from a rotten disco?? Where does the points system draw the line? Say a 300tdi and axles?? Jon
  7. A link from another forum http://www.vwt4forum.co.uk/showthread.php?t=302698&highlight=solar+panel&page=22 It's a long read but some useful info. I fitted a 100w flexible panel and mppt controlled to my camper after reading this. Mppt controller that a lot of people used on this thread is good and cost me about £80 about 18months ago. Jon
  8. Noticed these on facebook the other day, not looked into what is uprated or hybrid about them but seemed reasonable https://www.facebook.com/NKK-Turbos-Ltd-662011710528814/?fref=ts if the link doesn't work have a look for NKK turbos Newark upon Trent Nottingham
  9. Just think whether you are likely to upgrade the axles at any point, as you will be annoyed if you spend a lot on a brake setup designed to LR axles and then decide you want different axles to be able to use the engine in anger! Would like to see it when it's done! Jon
  10. Depending on what fridge you are running have you thought of mounting a solar panel on the roof? This way batteries will be kept topped up when parked up and fridge is left on or if the vehicle not being used for a while. 100W solar panel and a good solar charge regulator can be had for about £200. Jon
  11. Thanks Mo I will have a look into those, I assume they are just bolt on. Dicky had said that yours was a nice quality rebuild which had been thought out well and was something to aim for. I am in the process of trying to convince my girlfriend that the 90 kitted out properly and nicely rebuilt will be as useable and comfy as my VW T4 transporter.... So can the 200tdi be made that refined?
  12. Hi Guys Our 200tdi discovery conversion into a 2.5 petrol is on standard mounts and lt77 and doesn't seem to be very smooth when idling and when sitting in the cab. So I have a few question so let me explain the situation: Once my brother (Darth Dicky on here) finally hands the defender back over it is likely to need a new chassis. So am looking at a galv chassis to rebuild it on but I have a few questions first and may try a few thing before shelling out for the chassis. Are 4 cylinder mounts different hardness for petrol and diesel?? Should I try 200tdi rubbers?? What things can I look at on the engine as it has had 2 different tdi's in so far and it runs well and pulls fine and can't remember if it was always like this or if I have just got used to cars, But i know my 200tdi disco was nice and smooth when I had that. Were 200tdi defender engine any different? So if Discovery mounts are more damped than defender? (a friend has some on his lightweight and they work well) These would improve the smoothness of the engine. But would a chassis company do this for me or would I have to jig it up myself? as I am looking for an off the shelf solution rather than anything too custom and too much work involved and not enough time or skill on my part . Alternatively could I mount it on 300tdi mounts on a 300tdi chassis, althought I guess the LT77 would be in the wrong place. I want to stick with the 200tdi due to its simplicity and it is what I have and think it is a good unit. The LT77 can stay as it is a reconditioned unit not long ago so would be a shame to change it. If I eventually get bored of the power then maybe I would change the 200tdi turbo for a 300tdi manifold and hybrid turbo. Any ideas welcome as I am just thinking out loud at the moment. Thanks Jon
  13. I am thinking of going to have a look around. Not been before, is it worth me driving 2.5 hours each way to it? Are there many traders there and genuine overland traders. I am looking for ideas for the next project Thanks Jon
  14. Bringing this back to the top a few years later. I have a Rover V8 in a series 2, and the current mocal remote oil filter kit does not leave much clearance with the diff. This is a spin on type with 90 degree unions coming off it. To give more clearance would I be better getting: http://www.mattlewisracing.co.uk/product.php/300/155/oil_cooler_filter_cover___matt_lewis_racing this to replace the spin on piece, and will the outlets be in a good place Or would the MGV8 type http://www.moss-europe.co.uk/oil-filter-spin-on-v8.html Hopefully the 1st type will give a good amount of extra clearance as it is the cheaper or the 2, Any idea how much extra clearance it will give. I am trying to get a photo of my phone to upload to show the current set up Thoughts please Thanks Jon
  15. I have had the steering box completely apart as the bearing at the top of the shaft had collapsed and lost all the bearing into the box. I have put new bearings (12) in the recirculating tube and refitted it. However I am struggling to see how I can get the ball bearings into the upper bearing and lower bearing which hold the shaft in place. I place them but in moving the shaft about to put the other bearings in they end up everywhere. Any hitns of tips as the the best way to doit as I am about the throw the towel in! Thanks in advance Jon
  16. Just had the same with the Transits at work. The ford garage told us a recall had just come in for the van when we rang them to come and collect a transit that had died at the side of the road, with engine malfunction and oil pressure lights coming on. This was a 2012 Transit 140HP so not exactly sure which engine it is. Engine had manage 88,000 though. Jon
  17. Or a cheaper option than the ashcrofts console http://www.bordermotorsport.co.uk/index.php?id_product=50&controller=product plus I think they will do custom layouts for switches or cubby box Jon
  18. Red . Painted mine red on a Green 90. I thought it looked good and it massively improved BHP and braking power Jon
  19. I also don't know this engine but I know of a similar problem on the vw t4 engines, and can be due to splits on the small pipes which control the boost (actuator pipes), on the t4 there is one which goes to the ecu and a boost control valve. Normally 3 or 5mm silicon pipe can be used to replace them. May be worth a look at Jon
  20. Thanks to all that were involved in organising it. Haven't been off roading in our own vehicle for a long time, am usually co-driving instead. But it is safe to say I think Darthdicky has been bitten by the off road bug again. Jon
  21. Just booked myself and Darthdicky in. Can we follow you round Steve200tdi? No long have a winch that that works anymore. Lack of maintenance on Dickys part . Jon
  22. Thanks to all involved or not involved as the case may be. Good weekend and good to meet some more of the forum after a slight absence recently. Hopefully the Land Rover bug is back biting both me and Darth. (Why did I say I would rebuild his 90 for him???) Jon
  23. Looking forward to this! Just got to clear the van of carp from having down a few repairs (who would have thought a VW would be as problamatic as a Land Rover) and load up the heater and a few bits and ready for the off. See you in the Bar on Friday night then! Jon
  24. Is it you that is now on the T4 forum? With a T5?? Jon
  25. Thanks guys I have sent my friend a link to this thread so hopefully she can see it and will follow up any leads. I have met dave lovejoy (nonimouse) before in the early seven sisters j33p event with maxi trials etc and militant grahams snow cat rescuing us and bish bosh from the sewage bogs, seems a very long time ago now Jon
