  1. Not recomended but if you have a disco/rrc that will fail on rust on the rear arch as it's too close to the rear seatbelt mounting. if you remove the seat and belts it will pass. The rust should then be repaired as soon of possible of course.
  2. If you do go for alloys, make sure they've either genuine land rover or a good named brand. Finding out that one of your aftermarket copy XS wheels has cracked after 4 weeks of use, doesn't give you much confidence in the 4 your driving on.
  3. You should have got that the right way round Blippie, the XS wheels were used on the 1997 camel 110's - thry did break alot though.
  4. 19J Turbo diesels and 2.5NA's had a air filter restriction indicator under the bonnet. wouldn't be hard to fit to later ones. Alot of farm machinery have a warning light for blocked filter as well.
  5. Presumably your conversion is 300tdi into 2.5NAD? I'd keep the 300tdi flywheel and housing. just remove the couple of studs which don't lineup with the bellhousing holes and drill out and tap the bottom of the flywheel for the bottom stud. Then you can time the engine correctly in the future as well.
  6. I've got one of these, http://www.lifesystems.co.uk/psec/first_aid_kits/mtn_leader_pro_first_aid_kit.htm not cheap, but pack's fairly small and easy to store.
  7. The Camel Trophy Owners Club have re-made the pioneer mounts and are sold as a kit including the webbing strap for pick axe mount and shovel. The club shop website is currently down for maintenance but If you email shop@cameltrophy.co.uk Nick or Dan should be able to give you the prices. Or they will be for sale from the club stand at the show's over summer. Martin
  8. My mates chassis in electrox primer after i spent a couple of hours welding it. And then in implement enamel, looks like a decent chassis there
  9. Personally i'd wire brush, Bilt hamber electrox primer and top coat with hard implement enemal.
  10. I had 7.50 Rangmasters on my first 110 and was very happy with them, drive sensibly in the wet and all is fine, they were factory fitted as late as td5 defenders. Michelin XZL's are also very good, pretty quite and very good off road. Also 235/85 16 tyres shouldn't really be fitted to 5.5" rims either (min rim width 6", recomended rim width is 6.5") As for bfg at's i seem to be one of the few people that would never have another set.
  11. Many years ago LRO did do a big tyre test, with a set routes and a 90 used as a control car. But you've summed up they're current position on testing things. A company has more chance of winning if the editorial staff get a freebe as well.
  12. My GKN one was in the correct out of phase position when i bought it.
  13. Haven't had any under body protection on any of mine, 2 slightly bent track rods is the only damage i've had.
  14. Every 109 I've seen has said 2 ton on the VIN plate
  15. Isn't the towing capacity for S2/3 SWB 2t not 3.5t? That might be why your breaking gearboxes.
  16. That very nice Tdi D2 was built by York Land Rover Services and it should be at the RGS Overland weekend, if anyone wants to have a look at it. Personally I quite like the seating position in a defender and the standard seats don't make my back ache which most car seats do. I've been to Morocco in a D1 and the extra space of a 110 would have been nice. Everything fits in a D1 but needs to be packed tighter. Also remember the max GVW is quite a bit lower for the discovery's compared to defender and it's easy to go over it when fully loaded.
  17. The cummins in the Case MX series was far better than the perkins that McCormick fitted. Why we bought 2 of the last Case MX110's where I used to work instead of McCormick after having both on demo.
  18. ATF is SAE 10w, Morris' version of MTF94 which they recomend for the R380 is SAE 75W/80. The oil pump in the LT77 doesn't like thicker oils. Data sheets here; http://www.morrislubricants.co.uk/Downloads/TDS%20Liquimatic%20DII.pdf and http://www.morrislubricants.co.uk/Downloads/Lodexol%20MTF%20TDS%20137%20Iss%202.pdf
  19. I fitted Bearmach to mine with Vulcan bomber's help, similar design to superpro but cheaper and with a longer warranty. I'm happy with them so far. I'd never fit Polybushes due as I've had to replace them after 2 years on a friends 110.
  20. The one pictured at the bottom of fozsug's post is the type fitted to Rest of world (ROW) Export spec, with the idea being if part of it splits in the middle of nowhere its easier to find a section of pipe to fit and get you going than trying to a 1 piece replacement in africa. Martin
  21. ATF is what Ashcrofts still recomend for LT77's on their website. MTF94 was developed for Rover group by Texaco so that they could use one oil in all their manual 'boxes Rover and Land Rover.
  22. That would be a Beaver, was an approved conversion in the 80's I can't remember the name of the company that built them. Here's another one http://www.winston-pincombe.co.uk/landrover-sales/detail/189.html
  23. One of the very few other 255/85 options is the Toyo MT http://www.toyo.co.uk/tire/pattern/open-country-mt
