  1. As it says really, looking at putting a bigger intercooler on as I'll be towing a caravan around france next year, would you bother with 165000 mile on the clock or do you think I'll be pushing my luck? Jas
  2. cheers chaps, bearings were as new, just all had play in them. Set them up again now & checked breathers, alls fine. just wondered if re-adjusting the taperd bearings would be a yearly pre-MOT event...... Jas
  3. Hi, Changed all bearings on the defender when I rebuilt the hubs/brakes last winter. I just did a full service last week and noticed they all had play in them, so re-did them. Is that expected? Is it just because I packed them with new grease and now the grease is dispersed or thiner? Jas
  4. just so your aware, I noticed this on my 110 a few weeks after I bought it when doing a major service / inspection. Two years and 20+k later its still exactly the same and I check it ever 3k when I service it. Jas
  5. mines dry now, only did it on Saturday or Sunday. that looks pretty nornmal (if not a bit thick) from my experience with it. Jas
  6. did mine again yesterday. Bloody awful job. I have one of those waxoyl pump spray things, it's ok, the trick it to keep the waxoyl in a bucket of hot water. Sprays (and runs...and drips....) fine then. Chassis was hammarited 18 month ago and waxoyled on top, then just topped up the waxoyl yesterday. Still looked good underneath. Jas
  7. Sussed it! When I stripped it certain parts were covered in yellow paint dots. Then when I put it back together (looking at the photos for my web page) I saw that the dot didn't line up, then I notice that the tensioner had dots on it ! Anyway, I look back through the history file I got with the car and the fuel pump was changed in august 2001 but the belt was done in february 2001. Basically I think they just dotted paint on everything, changed the pump, then put everything back so the dots were "sort of" lined up!. Didn't torgue it (whey else dot the tensioner?) and didn't put a pin in to set the fuel pump timing. Can't believe the difference its made! Drove it again yesterday and even my wife has noticed it doesn't smoke as much, certainly much smoother to drive. I just thought it was a typical smokey landy given the mileage. (164,000) Jas
  8. As Said in my other post this morning, I changed my timing belt yesterday. Has a few problems getting the injection pump locating dowel in place with the old belt on. Basically, I could get the dowel in the pump if I was slightly off TDC on the crank. Anyway. Didn't think much about it really (had a hangover at the time) so I just cut the old belt off then straightened everything up myself with the pins & dowells you get in the difflock kit (only used two of the tools!). When I turned it over it started as per usual first click. Drove for a test drive and its noticably smoother. Am I right in thinking that (for once) I may have accidentally improved the running of my landrover? I though if the injection timing was anywhere near out of line it just wouldn't run? Jas
  9. stick with waxolye type stuff. Moisture will still get trapped behind the foam eventually and it'll never dry out mate. Jas
  10. Morning all, Changed my timing belt yesterday and noticed yellow paint spots on some of the bolts. Seen these on my fuel pump also (but I know its a recon one). Just wondering who put them on? Was it a landrover thing, does your motor have them? or is it off some independent garrage trying to "seal" the engine for some sort of warranty? not important, just curious Jas
  11. the problem with your argument Little Nay is that it is way to factually correct. Jas
  12. I second that, I messed on for ages with poor quality seal kits that just don't bloody fit. If its a big lump of cast or steel I can adjust then I'll buy it. Anything else I'll buy OE wherever possible. What is worth fiding out the the dealer price sometimes. I have found some of the little fiddly parts are often a few pence difference to the copies. Father in law lives in Lincoln and swears by Rimmer brothers. Never tried them myself. Jas
  13. would have offered but for two valid reasons. 1: wife is due to deliver my 4th offspring the day before. 2: I live in Northumberland. Would have been a good oportunity to meet some of the regulars. Jas
  14. Your not kidding there! I have just about given up on most mags these days, every time I buy one I regret it! Jas
  15. back, it crashed.........................
  16. removing the skin would probably split the skin around the edge, You could try it though and if it splits then you'll have to find another door. The frame can be fixed if your ok with a hammer and a welder. I have rebuilt several old doors over the years, none on landies though, but compared to most cars, a landy door is easy. I have replaced an old skin on a rebuilt frame before. Don't expect to do it in an hour. Jas
  17. As I type this I can see the LRO web page uploading on my pc..... ......... ........ .... I am now boiling the kettle..... ... ,,, .. Right I'm off. The Page has loaded now. Jas
  18. Id expect better from you lot. Whats the point of having a Yam R1? where the hell are you going to ride on the road legally in the UK with that amount of power and it'll be "fun? Whats the point of an Audi Quatro? Two wheel drive makes you go forward and backwards just as well for regular driving, why buy a bloody lexus/jag/whatever when you can get to work in a diesel corsa just as well, come to think of it, use the bus! or cycle you lazy sods. He's got a 90 BECAUSE HE LIKES THEM !!!!!!!!!!!!! He polishes it BECAUSE HE THINKS ITS GREAT!!!!!! He's spent a fortune on it BECAUSER HE BLOODY CAN!!!!!!!!!! tis called choice, and I for one hope he continues to do it, so that in 10 year time when some lucky bugger buys it it'll be in great condition compared to the stuff that you "off-road" rough buggers pass on... Jas
  19. I'd like it in the archives if its ok. Planning this type of work some time...... Jas
  20. is that true? you can't get remanufactured bulkheads for the lt77 box? Jas
  21. yup, put the teflon ones onmine, I was told at the time that You couldn't get chrome ones any more? Anyway, there fine Jas

  23. hows the law stand on these? I fancy a pair, but was gonna fix a button on the dash as I thought I'd have to keep the single tone defender horn for the MOT on the stalk Jas
