  1. I'm knackerd............. Libby is fine, its the 2 year old who keeps trying to pick Libby up thats wearing us out. thanks for the comments chaps. Jas
  2. yup, its one of the few reasons you'll see me at 4am on the forum. Wife just given birth to Libby, 8lb5oz........alls well, I'm off for a Guinness and then to bed............ Just to spare the argument of who to tell first, I thougt I'd tell the forum members on the net! Cheers all Jas
  3. hmmmm. Mixed responses.... Got a sankey you see, mainly for trips to the tip & camping gear. I can't put much in the back of the 110 as its either full of kids or the dogs - big family. I cycle to work, wife has run around, so 110 is weekend family car/distance tourer/holidays/camping etc. Off to south France next year and staying in a town (no off street parking) so with the toll roads & security issues I thought of getting a roof rack.....also has the bonus of fitting long lengths of wood on top (I'm always rebuilding something in the house). I'm right in thinking you drill holes and bolt it through the roof lip aren't I? It doesn't just clamp on like most? I could store it in the garage on top of the sankey when not in use so appart from removing the bugger I think space to store won't be an issue.
  4. A bit of an odd question considering the din in side most Defenders anyway, but I'm about to buy a 2nd hand Brownchurch full roof rack for my 110 (£150). I was interested if any of you had one and what difference they make to motorway driving? Will it "buzz" and drive me mad or is it not that noticable? If its horrific I may stick with the trailer......... jas
  5. learn to live with it I'm afraid. My wifes the same. We were towing the sankey full of slate a few month back and she pulled out to over take a waggon...............except we didn't go any faster due to being in a fully loaded 110 200tdi, on a slight incline, at 50mph with a tonne of slate in the back of a 3/4 sankey...... It all became clear when she informed me "I think it needs looking at coz it notmally goes to 70mph!" yes dear, it does. On the flat...........without the slate............. she's a golf driver too.
  6. looks like your going to be busy! Be interested to know how it runs later on. Where is "Tipton" by the way? Jas
  7. I would have thought your better off leaving the cage one it. I would buy a landy with a cage if I needed it (some may like the look of it also?), but buying one with loads of holes in it may well put the most capable of people off it. after all, its easy to find a 90 with no holes in the roof etc... Take of fancy bits & sell them, sell vehicle with cage fitted...... thats what I'd do......unless you think you'll get more with the off-road gear still attached, and have you got the time to swap the bits over? (7-day week etc...)? Good luck with the sale. Jas
  8. here we go............ As far as running one goes you would only really notice that the 300 is possibly quieter, IIR same BHP/Torque/MPG etc.... Working on one, the 300 had more parts (is it 60 more? I think I read it somewhere?) but very similar to work on. 300 has engine management & ERG etc 200 has.....none of that stuff. Its a lillte more primitive with no electrical gadgets. Both have their fans, but there both very similar in use and reliability. I would have either. I have a 200, but wouldn't think twice about having a 300. Not in preference, as I don't really distinguish between the two for daily use. I'm sure you may find others with differing views. Important bit - buy based on quality & condition, not age. Jas
  9. Got to be the defender 110. Wanted one as as soon as I saw one but I was too young & skint. as time went by I got better jobs and flash cars. Now (without being an arse) I can afford a new Disco. But it just isn't what the 110 is too me. I use it as a skip, take the dogs everywhere with us, lugs mountain bikes everywhere, doesn't matter if I'm scruffy when I get in it....and yet when I pull up at friends houses with BMW/Merc/Lotus parked outside, they all want to talk about the 110. Kids all love them as well for some reason. Its so practical that I can't think of a time when I wouldn't want it. I'm no wizzard with electrics, so the 200tdi is the motor for me as it has none! Parts are cheap, there a pleaseure (usually!) to work on and I can sit a 65 all day pulling a sankey getting 30+mph. I can't complain with that. All my kids fit in (no small feat!) and to top the lot. It looks great. Its also my hobby I suppose. The wife loves it to bits and drives it whenever I'm not in it. The scenes pretty good also, I have had a few "unusual" cars that have their own "scene" with forums groups etc. The landrover scene is without doubt the easiest one to mix in where some can be a bit pretentious (porsche 912), argumentative (VW bus/beetle) or elitist (BMW)..... that's all just personal views though, not wrote to offend any one!
  10. £244, who was that through? are they a national company? Jas
  11. via the cash point ..................
  12. mines a normal extending metal one......lying along the side of the expansion tank under the bonet!. Reception has always been fine... Jas
  13. All clear here, no problems found. Jas
  14. Listen to Michael Calvert^^^^^^ Never done a landrover, but done Minis from bare shells and MG from new bare shell also. Pain in the butt! You don't realise how many fiddly little bits that you need until all them are not there! Would definately buy a £2k car then bring it right up to scratch with the other £4k. If your carefull with it you'll keep the reg plate easily, saving you grief. It also means you can be picky about what you buy. For example, you may change to a galv chassis..... so you won't be worried about buying a tidy ish road vehicle with a shot chassis will you? etc.... good luck Jas
  15. right cheers Ralph. So both will sit side by side fine then. Cool. Just realised when typing.... this must be something similar to the new defender as well then. Just got to find £250 now! Jas
  16. unusually for a "seating" post these days its not related to the new booster seat laws. I have been looking at geting a forward facing rear seat for the back of the defender. However I was interested to know if I could get two in, side by side (one left & one right. not two in line one one side!!!). I think I might have seen a pic of it on here maybe? If they fit, would you need to get in, then lower the seat? I'm thinking the seats would block the rear door? Asking as I'm touring france next year and the daughters boyfriend has an arthritic spine so he won't be wanting to sit on a side bench! Jas
  17. force 9 = £16 month including web hosting for my web space/name Jas
  18. don't forget, a group phot must be posted on the site afterwards. I need something to keep the kids away from the fireplace
  19. no it isn't specific enough, a true blog would note (for example) the consistency of said dump, and the type of coffee made..... keep working at it
  20. Maybe I'm alone in this theory, but here goes .... in a few years 4x4's will pass away....like bads 80's tracksuits and white slip on shoes with no socks. Its a fashion, thats all. Not us lot, we'll probably still be bitching about notchy gear changes and a puff of smoke on startup, and what % you mix your veg oil at..... I'm talking about the suburban bling 4x4 that wind up your average flip flop wearing vegan hippy.... Focus will still be on "cars" as such, but it's probably gonna shift to the next "must have motor"..... We, on the other hand, will be oblivious to this as we pay our classic insurance and reduced road tax at a rate of a mere £2000 a year will be laughing all the way to the recycle bank... You see those guys driving old 1940's fords that are just a bit too black and shiney at car shows? ....thats us in 30 years time, but the colour won't be black, it'll be green. a shinier, much more polished green than was ever released from the factory..... (ps. bet theres not many TD5's left though....) right then. Wheres that other bottle of red? Jas
  21. I 'm amazed at that! Suprised I missed the original post. Totally reinforced my intensions of rebuilding the 200tdi I have when it gets knackered. I can't believe that this happens to a defender rear x-member, everyone knowes they get abuse. Unbelievable. What did you do? put a plate over the whole lot? Jas
  22. I'd love one of those, just too bloody expensive with the other "adjustments" I'm making to the 110 at the moment. If you see two going cheap then let me know, I'll buy you a pint (or maybe a half....??)
  23. I service it myself, it gets an excellent service every 3000mile
  24. cheers chaps, I was going to tweak the pump a little, didn't see the point of a bigger intercooler with no tweak! Just wondered if I was pushing my luck with the milage.? I know its not a lot of miles for a tdi, but I don't hear much of modified tdi's with high miles thats all, mostly just standard ones. Jas
