  1. wouldn't be a lot of point for me, I only close the drivers window when its raining heavy or above 30mph. ps, I also find that on long journeys its those in the rear complaining about the heat building up in the 110. It does take a while to build up though!! Jas
  2. Its quite possible that on his annual salary, I wouldn't be too botherd about the cost of running a V8 either.......
  3. hahaaa... like it....Africa & easern Europe and my old home town gets noted as "a bit iffy"........and probably quite rightly so.... PS. As the thread seems to have wandered slightly into medical care, what do you lot do? I'm a Resuscitation Officer. Basically I attend cardiac arrests in hospital, but mostly ~I teach emergency care techniques to health care staff. Anything from resuscitation of the newborn to anaphylaxis or airway management etc... A glorified lecturer with management thrown in. Possibly because of this I tend to take a very basic first aid kit. I have one or two collegues who seem to carry a trunk full of excessive stuff with them in their cars near home, let alone on a tour. Jas
  4. mines the 90mmx46mm one on the front of my 93 defender. Jas
  5. We were planning driving round Norway, Finland & Sweden for a while, then another child came along and put the bockers on that trip somewhat as there not the cheapest of locatons to visit with a large family..... Now were off to Southern France & Northern Spain in June, driving all the way. Bare in mind I live 50 mile from Scotland, then it gets up to 1100 mile to south of france. I'd be suprised if we didn't hit 3500 miles in 14days. With a defender full of kids as well! Must be bloody mad. Jas
  6. just for info, I discovered that there wasn't always an earth fitted from the starter to the chassis. mine wasn't and I had this discussion when I first got the defender and several others said there wasn't always one. I fitted one anyway, about £4 at a local car spares place. Jas
  7. I had the rear prop off a short while ago when I was trying to track down where the slack was in the running gear. I only parked it on the drive, put the hand brake on then walked into the garage. Next thing I know the front of the defender nudged me in the back and I just stopped it as the roof touched the garage door...lucky as its too tall for my garage! Jas
  8. kids & wife call "him" Humphrey, I call it "the landrover".
  9. same time Ralph! well going from ralphs reply, my mates is an "adaptation"...which may well be likely... Jas
  10. right then. If its the same as my mates series then its the same lock catch at the back as it is on the front door. I'm talking about the slam peg that sticks out? got two bolts holding it on. I can't ask him if its genuine (as most of the thing isn't) as he on hols. Jas
  11. I'll look tonight when I get home Jas
  12. turn it and it disconnects your battery, like taking the terminal off.
  13. exmoor trim sell these ones Suprisingly the rectangular plate is classed as a spreader plate suitable for a seat belt. Not massive is it. Jas
  14. got a thatcham cat one on mine for insurance purposes. Otherwise it's a bit of a joke as I can start it by bypassing the ignition with a battery & some leads..... I guess it would deter an inexperianced thief? No electronic anything on the 200tdi, I'd expect they are more use on a more modern ECU controlled machine? .... Jas
  15. Blue is the new "black"....all the rage this year..... cheers, just a passtime to drive the wife mad...."You got to spend all day fixing it then spend a night witing about it....."
  16. mine's a paddocks, it fit ok, just a bit of "tweaking" required. its here: http://www.jojas.co.uk/rear_cross_member.htm
  17. just needs a bit of T-cut...........
  18. unsuprisingly....it's in Sunderland. An area where quite a few individuals could do with a rocket up their a**e. Less than 20 mile from me..... Jas
  19. Just in case anyone else is interested in this. I'm after an O/D so I looked into it. I called GKN with the serial number. It's a "very old model" that you can't get the output gear for any more so you must replace the whole output end at just over £200. The speed sensor is £50 and the seals are a quid each. So essentially its £250+ to get the thing ready for a 1.4:1 transfer box...and then it may still be on its way out.... god knows what it reaches in the auction on top of that. they appear to be like hens teeth...... Jas
  20. Mark, I had seen that very same statement on the golf forum, My wife has a mk4 tdi. Jas
  21. very nice. I'd like it on the 110, but I think I bring enough attention to myself already. Jas
  22. yup, insurance job was a pig. K&N have been around for years, turned into a bit of a "snap-on" type garage sticker item in the early 90's. To be fair they worked great on older motors (such as Mini's) who had carp induction flow blocked with a fluffy old filter. At one point some of the racers used to tie womens tights to the top of the carb as a filter. This was obviously carp....but it allowed for better air flow and throttle response (less lag) whilst on the track. K&N came along with their product which was vastly superior to the filters of the day and cleaned up the market. The name to have on your modded motor. Not so good with modern motors though as air filtration is way better and air flow is generallly reasonably efficient (generally...). Last one I had was on an MX%, louder and very slightly better response...only if you really looked for it (wife didn't notice, she thought the exhaust was blowing....) The Hyclone seems to get good feedback as posted above, but I have no experience of it, the fuel pump tweak seems very popular, theres and excellent post on here about it. I found that a bloody good service raher unsuprisingly improves performance significantly. Others go to all lengths with exhausts/intercoolers/fuel additives etc. I noticed some improvement when I threw away the fan and fitted a 88degree thermostat. Runs much smoother allround now. My injectors are next on the list, but at £60 each I keep backing away from them incase there fine. If the K&N fits in your existing 200tdi filter casing, then it will clog up relatively quickly from all the diesel mist you get on the tdi's. If I leave a filter in for 6,000 is well ready to change. I know you can clean a K&N, but I doubt they would be as efficient after a couple of cleans?? I'm not anti K&N, if I had a motor that would respond to one, i'd fit one. thats all. Jas
  23. I just fitted the exmoor trim rear seats in the 110. I was rather suprised to see just how small the spreader plates were that came with both the seats and the belts . the spreader plates from underneath, thats the rear crossmember on the bottom of the pic. Jas
  24. not the answer your looking for....but I personally wouldn't bother. Iv'e had K&N's on a few motors (not landies)and although throttle response often improves marginally, so does noise and "rumour has it" engine wear. I couldn't be bothered at the engine wear bit, but noise and next to no improvement in power for £50 makes little sense. My 200tdi would fill it with old engine oil after 10,000 mile anyway!
