  1. It must be down to the Agents with NFU. When I skidded on some deisel in my 90 and ended upside down in a ditch, they offered me £3000 + the car back in settlement. Needless to say I took them up on the offer as the 90 was a 1986 2.5Td. Rgds Ivan
  2. Had a great weekend. It was really nice to finally put some faces to names. Thanks to Walfy and Sticky for some superb spotting on some of the tricky bits and thanks to Tim for leading the group. Can't wait for the next one. Maybe the Lakes? Rgds Ivan
  3. If you are going from high to low on the transfer box I usually leave it in gear (1st or 2nd), then move the lever. If it doesn't engage then lift the clutch slightly while pushing the lever into low. That usually gets it to engage. HTH Ivan
  4. Bloke who did my last Discovery clutch takes 4 hours. I must admit he does fit them all the time (does a lot of work for Ashcrofts). So I can't see why they would need it for 2 days. HTH Ivan
  5. Do a search on the forum as this has been covered lots of times. Check all the connections to your starter circuit and the earths. It's probably a duff connection somewhere. HTH Ivan
  6. My 90 is a 1988 2.5 TD (now 300Tdi) my wifes is a 1996 300Tdi and I can see no difference in the battery boxes. HTH Ivan
  7. If it's a round ball type one it's for the heater flap controls (I think). I moved mine up to the bulhead when I fitted a second battery in my 200 Series Disco. The 300 series doesn't have the vacuum thingy. HTH Ivan
  8. I think it's to do with the tunnel for the bell housing. I am sure they are bigger on a 300Tdi version (fitted with R380 rather than LT77 for 200Tdi) HTH Ivan
  9. I'm not worried Tim, it's just that it will be the wifes 90 and I will be in serious trouble if I bend it Ivan
  10. They only say commissioned by someone qualified. In which case you could save yourself some money by wiring it up yourself and getting a qualified person to check it. For power points you need 2.5MM Twin and Earth wired up in a ring main. For lighting you can either use 1MM twin and earth or 1.5MM twin and earth. Personally I would run the upstairs as one ring main and the downstairs as another. The cable to lay underground needs to be Steel Wire Armoured and either 4MM wires or 6Mm wires. HTH Ivan
  11. The problem with software is that it all works fine when testing. It's only when you let the users get hold of it that you have problems. They all expect it to be lightning fast with 100 users even though you only tested it with 3 users. Ivan
  12. They will but there are a couple of things to be aware of. The connections to the wiper motor are different. On my wife's 96 90 they use a plug which can be bought from Vehicle Wiring Products. Also the covers are different. HTH Ivan
  13. How does it come out to nearly £2500 ? The most expensive recon gearbox from Ashcrofts is £850, so assume £1000 for a rebuilt gerabox where does the extra money come from ? Just curious. Ivan
  14. Gaz Try calling Bell Auto Services (0871 2884656). I beleive Ian may be an aquaintance of theirs. Just remembered his website http://www.irbdevelopments.com/ Rgds Ivan
  15. My mate cut the side of his out on a Series III and had no problems that I know of. HTH Ivan
  16. Good point John. My wife and I will be in a Blue (Arles/Windjammer) Defender 90 (P reg) fitted with an ARB winch bumper and snorkel. Rgds Ivan
  17. Just MHO but don't bother with the Series 3, 90 and 110 club and don't bother with the Discover Owners club. I have been a memebr of both clubs and they do very little offroading. The Phoenix Club started out as members of the Discovery Club but they parted company due to some political issues within the club. That's also one reason I'm not interested in joining a club. The Shire Club do seem to be very good and there is a part of the Shires Mafia who make good contributions to this forum as well. BTW I wear Glasses does this make me inadequate HTH Ivan
  18. I have an Xeng split charge. The way it works is when the Alternator starts producing 12v through the warning light wire it connects the 2 batteries together. So all I need to do is use a switch to provide 12v to actuate the split charge relay and the batteies are connected. I can now start the car off the second battery. Or am I missing something ? Rgds Ivan

    Turbos

The 300Tdi I fitted to my 90 has a Disco engine. However, the Turbo is from a Defender. It just bolted on as normal with the Defender manifold. HTH Ivan
  20. Martin You also know me. I am not fussed who's group I am in. Am quite happy with the suggestion (thanks Chris). All I request is it be as non-damaging as possible. I am driving the wife's 90 and she will be very upset if I bend it. Rgds Ivan
  21. Thanks for the responses guys. Will try and sort it at the weekend. Ivan
  22. I have a 1996 90. I have just changed the rear door on it but, the existing door handle is about to break (badly corroded). I have a spare door handle that I can swop over but, I don't have the keys for the lock. So I was hoping to swop the existing lock with the one on the spare. Any idea how I get the lock out without any keys ? TIA Ivan
  23. Pete I recently purchased some paint for mine. It's almost an exact match. I'll get the number for you tonight when I get home. Rgds Ivan
  24. Why not PM Ian (Porny on here) he's a tuning guru. I am sure he could offer some good advice. HTH Ivan
  25. Yep. I kept the 300 back plate because it has better seals than a TD. We just offered it up and fitted the bolts where we could. Probably had to clear a couple with the drill and replace some studs with bolts, but no real problems. HTH Ivan
