  1. Less...... About 25-26 MPG For a road train weight of about 4 tonnes, a rooftent and that trailer sitting high on the trailer, that's not bad.. A bit more torque higher in the speeds / revs would be nice though..
  2. Please do - you're the boss ! Apart from one bolt that came undone, not a single problem whatsoever with the vehicle. - New bed layout work very, very well - Rebuild Hard Shell Roof Tent was tested in #$%@#~$@! rain and stayed dry - The new navigation systems earned their keeps... - MPG wise, about 29 miles to the gallon with the empty trailer
  3. Hmm...... The legal issues getting it in France on plates are just too big.. Also, I doubt the "not Q Plate" bit.. I love them. The Mrs. was not too upset - she must be getting younger...
  4. Well..... We're back. 2,610 Kms. in 73 hrs. - or 1,673 miles in your money 2 Ferries, 3 nights en Route and 3 locations to load stuff. The 110 did very, very well.
  5. I thing you may be over reacting a bit.. Diesel will be fine for th time being - sell it if you have doubt and buy something petrol ex factory. Modern vehicles are getting more and more difficult to convert and modify.. Good luck !
  6. Many thanks !! Obviously, many pics will be taken and the alarm sounded if need be. In the old days, one of the LR magazines would love to have a write up - but as this is real people doing real trips.... I'm taking the iPad with me so we should have some form of Internet.. I think. IF it works. The Brownchurch & Hardshell Roof Tent are back on again after their hibernate.. Ivo has to sleep somewhere I guess.. Tomorrow some oil & grease work, a meeting with a client and French Customs and we're all set for departure Saturday.
  7. Yes - there is 2 of us.. Poor, poor Ivo is a life long suffering friend who owns wirh me the smaller Morris Minor version ones.. We'll meet in Calais, do the Raid and part ways again when back in France.
  8. U P D A T E (In case a lonely soul would be interested... ) ======= Well... This weekend we're doing a good old fashioned UK Raid. 2,900 kms (or 1,860 miles in your money) in 72 hrs. with a 3-axle trailer to collect the remains of the Scottish Aviation Artic Trailer, some airplane seats for the new conference rooms and a pair of radar domes to protect the satellite uplinks against the elements... So, if you see a 110 (Keswick Green Hard Top) on French plates with a big trailer & a rooftent - give us a wave..
  9. Not sure when I 'll be in Emsworth.. The coming weekend I'm doing a good old fashioned UK Raid : 2,100 miles in 71 hrs. with the 3-axle to retrieve a trailer (yes - that one) and some satellite dish domes.. But I have an invitation to come up to Northern Scotland to work some dogs late this year and Emsworth is the obviously a logical place to visit..
  10. Love that thing !! Next time I'm in Emsworth must try to go and have a look if you don't mind..
  11. Yes. This one has to full size front doors, too and basically it is a walk through trailer. Many horses transported with it throughout Europe and no problems getting in - or out. The rear doors, often in Holland referred to as "American", make it very simple for the horse : from the ground onto the floor. We have never ever used the small slide out ramp.
  12. Why not buy my Fautras horse trailer (€ 2750 delivered to Dover -> Solihull route this weekend) so you have more money for a tow vehicle ? These are better that the IW ones : lighter, rear doors and the horses love them.
  13. We have just moved away from a trailer to a truck to move the horses around, so I'm not completely unbiased.. I' d not choose a LR product. We towed with about anything and apart from the VX and a F750 (5th wheel - 9 horses : very nice rig) I would not bother. But as this is a LR forum : D3
  14. Building your own loom for a Series / Defender is not that difficult these days. We have done it several times and I'm about to start wiring up the Hybrid. As long as originallity is not important, there are a few improvements to be amde over the standard thing. And places like "http://www.carbuildersolutions.com/uk/" make very nice stuff to have your Defender be real modern... Bon Couarage !
  15. As some of you may have noticed, I have become the owner of a somewhat unusual trailer that needs to be loaded next weekend. For that, I need a place to stay (B&B or something) for me and my navigator, a 110 and a big trailer for Saturdaynight, March 11. Preferable where the trailer or Land Rover does not get stolen overnight. The place I used to stay (Christchurch) was ideal but they have closed.. Suggestions anybody ?
  16. Ask the supplier. CE is not an issue as Series are too "old"
  17. For a non competition cage - that is going to be useful.
  18. Yes - half of that is Mine..Dutch "old" commercial plates on the Morris that belongs to a very good friend of mine. Runs on LPG - weird rear body. On the side, just behind the door, you can see his workshop logo. He 's coming this weekend with me to collect the big brother....
  19. Well.... I did fit Mazda's in RRC's, a ZF & Mazda in a 110 CSW and rebuild a Series III Cherry Picker so this is a good one to do some serious welding... You guys wanna see a pic of the "floor".....?
  20. Project? What are you going to do with it? 1 - Save it from the crusher at a scrapper's place as that was to happen next week (wonder why a Dutchman in France needs to do this, but alas..) 2 - There seems to be, looking at pics I just received, nothing left of the chassis / frame so loading it on the trailer will be a delicate operation to keep the aluminium straight.. 3 - 800 miles to bring it here is going to be interesting... 4 - When funds & time are there, frame will be rebuild and a 109" sought... 5 - Show the thing - they are very, very rare..
  21. Thanks for the quick replies !! These trailers were built by "Scottish Aviation" in the '60's for use both behind Morris Minor & Mini's in a somewhat smaller version. With a friend in Holland, we have 2 of those. People who've been to the Dorset Steam Fair may have seen them - one is in period sign writing. This is the project I have just bought...... Some years ago I'd simply go to the UK, hook it behind the 109"and see what happens (Oh yes... I have been on the side of the M1 with the police...) but this time I'll go and use the trailer to load it up as there seems to be nothing left of the "chassis".. Loading is going to be interesting.....
  22. As this group is know for their immeasurable knowledge about anything Land Rover - and more - related, this could be seen as a test. Who can tell me more about his trailer ? A friend in Holland has 2 smaller ones for use behind Morris Minors Pick Ups.. This one, however, seems a bit bigger, judging by the 109" it sits behind. ...... and yes, it seems I have bought one
