Best lockers opinions

Recommended Posts

Right the time has come to put lockers back in the old girl.

Rear arb crapped it's self and front one don't hold air and is ancient! Probably one of the first arb 10 spline lockers thet did.

So what would people reccomend?

My enitial thought is arb again but wondered what other people would reccomend?

Tia and hope every one is well!

Ashcroft are cheaper and in many ways better.

When you say in many ways better couldn't go into it a bit more please Bowie, I've had problems with ashcroft. Not going to name bash because had good things from them aswell but my transfer box will go to Winchester gears next time

Less likely to leak, and the internals are a bit stronger than ARB. Much more engagement vs ARB, meaning thy more positively lock.

..... And parts availability over here is much better.

Price wise an ARB is around £1000, Ashcroft is more like £600.

If you want the sticker to out on your truck it will cost you a fair bit!

The other option is a detriot style locker in the rear, and then a locker in the front, less buttons to press :)

Putting my conflict of interest hat on ashlocker pegged casing hd CWP nothing to beat them

price / every single part can be bought if needed / parts prices sensible

look at the videos I’ve popped in the diff section of the forum

over 10,000 out there ….

we see all diffs on the autopsy bench if they are broken or damaged most are fubar and scrap Ashlockers are the only ones that can survive

If going new, another vote for Ashcroft.
But are you sure the ARBs can't be rebuild? Some new seals and possibly bearings and a bit of work could get you going again for a lot less money.

I will admit I have looked at ashcroft. 2 problems

None in Stock.

Don't believe they do a 10 spline.

I mean swapping the front axle is a a option but that it's self comes with work.

Hydraulic assist steering, box section for the 1 point front linkage.

Bonuses are I'll make a few quid back on the upgraded front shafts, but would aft to be spent on new upgraded 24 spline.

Decisions decisions

Thanks for all replies though chaps it certainly has taken me back to the drawing board

Is there a supply issue with Ashlockers though?

Been out of stock for months.

Supply chain issues

some weeks I cannot see Timken bearings many as I want week later not for 2 months sometimes

Ashlockers are often not in stock do to one or two parts not coming into stoxk

I now carry prob 4 x the stock I used to pre Covid as I got caught out once not being able to build ANY diffs as I couldn’t source 1 x Timken bearing !!

so I even sometimes have stock when ashcroft dont

its a mad mad world 🤦‍♂️😂

Of and its big if

IF you are keeping the same ratio do the rear axle 1st don’t skimp and get it right

leave front

save and then do front properly

or

bear in mind rear does more work than front so you could go preloved arb etc but you have big tyres and they kill drivetrains so get the gearing correct makes a huge difference

I hope to soon be enquiring about a pair of lockers and associated bits.

I'm sure if I spend more money on it, it'll start to love me back.

Thanks for all the help nige!

It's the same axles on black piggy has Paul had nothings changed. Only thing to change Is 1.2 transfer box from ashcroft that I've had the same mods done to it. How ever I do plan on swapping this out for either a 1.4 or 1.6

I'd appreciate your opinion on the best route to take with this matter has you probably have forgot what I know about this!

Regards Joe.

I have all the bits bar a crush spacer to make your 1.2 a 1.4 for sale, if you are interested.

And yes, Nige, had forgotten that, but ARB ones are NLA, I'm certain yours are better of course....
